Van Halen to McCain: No You Can't

John McCain used a Van Halen song during his big speech earlier today and the band wants to make one thing clear -- they're not running with McCain.

Van Halen management tells us the band had no idea McCain was planning on using "Right Now" during his big entrance in Ohio telling us, "Permission was not sought or granted nor would it have been given."

For the record, Dubya used the same song during a bunch of his campaign speeches back in 2004, but sources close to the band tell us, "They're not political, they're just rock and roll."

42. I cannot believe that someone would use a song without consent, or actually use a recording of a band without permission. That is as crazy as someone listening into our phone calls without a warrent, or reading our emails without cause. We don't torture people, like the Godless Japanese did with waterboarding during WW2, when we prosecuted them for war crimes for that! This is America! Things like that just don't happen here. People respect each other's constitutional rights, especially the republicans!

44. Come on!!! We were singing and dancing to the song. It was a great pick me up today. Some had not even heard of Van Halen before today. And some were going to buy a VH CD this weekend. Why wouldn't Van Halen appreciate the publicity? They will need money to retire soon.
