Edwards Scores Big Wad

John EdwardsBest story of the day ... former Prez candidate John Edwards proves there no such thing as bad publicity, because it's making him even richer.

It seemed like only yesterday Edwards admitted he was cheating on his cancer-stricken wife -- right, it was -- and his fee for speaking engagements is already going sky high.

Edwards is scheduled to speak at the University of Illinois' Urbana campus in mid-October. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Edwards will rake in $65,000 for the chat. But the paper reports Edwards' agent told a University official Edwards wants to book more engagements and charge more than the pre-Beverly Hilton rate.

In 2006, Edwards was paid a measly $55,000 to speak at UC Davis ... on poverty.

TMZ.com
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

TMZ.com is a celebrity gossip and news website, the result of a collaboration between AOL and Telepictures Productions, a division of Warner Bros. Both AOL and Warner Bros. are units of Time Warner.[1] TMZ's managing editor is Harvey Levin, and the site is powered by Blogsmith.

While positioning itself as an independent celebrity news site, the site is more widely regarded as a tabloid journal [2], though unique for its major corporate backing. The site does not pay for stories or interviews, but Harvey admitted that they do[3]. It also pays for video clips and photos. Levin states that "Everything is researched and vetted for accuracy."[4]

'TMZ' stands for "Thirty Mile Zone," a term which originated in the 1960s. Due to the growth of "on location" shoots, studios and various talent guilds established a "thirty mile zone" -- outside of which shooting is considered to be a location shoot -- requiring per diems and other travel and living expenses to be paid. The zone remains centered in Los Angeles around the old offices of The Association of Motion Pictures and Television Producers at Beverly and La Cienega Boulevards in California. It was often said that "Everything entertainment happens in the 'Thirty Mile Zone.'" So essentially, the "Thirty Mile Zone" represents the center of Hollywood.[5]

-- cut, cut --

After TMZ posted the audio of his voice mail message to his 11-year-old daughter, Alec Baldwin said, “You find out that everybody who works in tabloid media are people who are filled with self-hatred and shame, and the way they manage those feelings is they destroy the lives of other people.” [12]

18. I trust that Edwards will talk both about his fall from marital grace and comment cogently on the Presidential race. That he and his wife campaigned so effectively for progressive values until he suspended his campaign meant that Obama and Clinton had to adopt more progressive positions. We owe the Edwards big-time for that public service. I for one assume they realized they could not win in the horse-race because the media was obsessed with the C vs. O horse-race, and that the eventual emergence of John's affair with Rielld Hunter would have no effect on the electability of either Clinton or Obama. While I disapprove of anyone betraying a private trust, in our private behavior, we all have deeply disappointed our associates and ourselves more than once. That's not what public service should be judged by.

America, get over this puritanical pseudo-religious obsessiveness with other folks' private actions.

RE What does Edwards have to say that anyone would want to hear? Posted at 12:15PM on Aug 30th 2008 by mary

25. There's plenty of moonbat nitwits on any large public university campus who are idiotic enough to pay to hear this moronic pumpkinhead talk about poverty. I can't get that hilarious video of him endlessly primping his hair before an appearance out of my head. Classic. I sure do miss the vapid duo of "Kerry - Edwards."

26. Who the hell will pay to even hear what he has to say? Does anyone care anymore??? I know I don't!

27. First Edwards made a pile of money from filing class action lawsuits, now he is raking in the dough by giving hypocritical speeches. He should really crawl back into his hole. He has shown us what an arrogant worm he truely is. I guess we should be thankful that he didn't win the primary to run for President.

28. A smooth talking southern, politician and philander, this is not unheard of.

I can't believe he is charging so much to speak. I am sure it only takes a few people in the UNIV hierarchy to think it's a good idea and it's on.

30. it's probably just a self-humiliation fee. it takes more effort and energy to face a crowd when he's now known as the adulterer of the year. i think it's only fair.
