Ricky Martin's Surrogate -- Open for Business

16. Excuse my ignorance but could someone please explain? Who's the mother? Cause the surrogate is not the biological mother, or is she? For example in Dennis Quaid case, he's got his kids through a surrogate, so is the surrogate the mother and not his wife?

18. The surrogate just carried the babies. I don't think we will ever know who provided the eggs although I have my suspicions. Ricky is going to be an awesome father. He has wanted this for so long!

19. TMZ--go f*ck yourselves. You have no clue what surrogacy is really about. I happen to be a surrogate and "renting my womb out" is NOT something I am doing. I am helping to create a family but you obviously don't get that part. OH WAIT---you really don't have a story if you make Surrogacy out to be a great thing -- which it really is.

A Shortened Definition of A Surrogate: To put into the place of another as a substitute.

A surrogate mother is the person who gestates, or carries a future human being. A surrogate mother can carry the baby, or babies by many different means. For example, she can use her own eggs making her, obviously, biologically connected to the baby, or babies. If donor eggs are used, then, obviously, the she just gestates the "little human", and there's no biological connection. The person, people, or couple "hiring" the surrogate mother usually have their plans in place, and the surrogate mother knows the "rules", too. Every state has different rules.

Are you still with me? Am I making sense? I'm trying to do the best I can to define surrogacy, but I don't have any answers for who "mothered" Martin's twin boys. I wish I did though because it's an interesting and selfless thing to do for someone, especially when the surrogate does not want monetary compensation (money) because it then becomes like a baby-selling scam, if you know what I mean.

Finally, the father of the infant(s) being gestated by the surrogate may not even use his own DNA (his sperm). The surrogate mother can be carrying a child who was conceived with donor eggs, AND donor sperm. So, like I explained, there are many different ways to do this "surrogacy thing." Personally, I think this is an awesome thing for people who cannot bare children themselves, except for the fact that it DOES cost a lot of money. That's the only part that I don't like because it's like only the really rich can do this, be parents, when working class can be wonderful parents, too.

29. WTF is wrong with people? There are literally tens of thousands of kids waiting to be adopted, and this idiot is PAYING someone to carry his kids? THEN he's disappointed when it's twins? What a moron. With adoption, he could have picked out his ONE kid, and the child would have a home now - of course, it would be with a scared, closeted idiot, but hey, it beats an orphanage.
