Malibu Prosecutors Hang Two

The two dudes who led the oceanfront smackdown on a pack of pappers have been charged with criminal brutality.

As Matt McConaughey surfed carelessly in Malibu, Skylar Martin Peak and Philip John Hildebrand -- two locals -- took it upon themselves to protect their turf. Prosecutors claims they went too far, and charged both hooligans with misdemeanor battery.

Surfs up, and so's your bail.

16. Never expect a fair fight when being confronted by violent strangers. It's always better to be tried by twelve than carried by six in a coffin. These punks are lucky they didn't get shot to death. Jumping anyone , anywhere , you're taking your life into your own hands and gambling your intended Victim doen't kill you. Punk ass fools.

17. I wonder if the guy arrested is related to that dude on Million Dollar Listing Madison Hildebrand? The real estate guy, not the 242PC guy, said his parents bought he and his brother a pad in Malibu while the real estate guy was at Pepperdine? No, yes, maybe?

21. The beach belongs to anyone who steps foot in the sand. For years, idiots like these have taken over areas of the coast as if they and nobody else has the right to be there. Give these punks the maximum fine and comunity service. Maybe that will teach these surf nazi's a lesson. Freedom of the press lets photogs to take pictures of anything they want. Deal with it.

22. First off these guys are not wanna be surfers. They have both done so much for the local surf community, from organizing contests for groms to charity events to help various environmental causes. This is a case of paps taking things too far and being put in their place....end of. MLO

23. I youtube'd the video and you can totally see one of the paps hitting a guy with his tripod.
Plus there looks to be more than just two surfers involved. What's up with that?

I say MORE POWER to the surfers!!!
Paparazzi are slimballs!!!!!

24. Try going to some of the beaches on the southern California coast and see if you don't get asked to leave if you are not a local. And, if you dare try to surf in "their" waters, they'll torpedo you with their boards until you decide it's not safe to be there. I love surfing, but you take a risk with these type of holigans.

THE BEACHES BELONG TO EVERYONE!!

26. Good. They should have beat the memory out of those losers. Hopefully the judge throws it out.

27. Annoying as the photogs may be, they should be able to take pics in a public venue as long as they aren't creating any safety hazard or breaking any existing laws. People such as actors choose to work in the public eye and are well aware of photogs, fans, etc. Granted the children of "celebrities" should be off-limits as a simple matter of respect. I know respect is a rare concept today, as clearly demonstrated by the gang-like actions of the surfers. Those guys clearly aren't the rich and privileged type as one comment indicated. The surfers should be prosecuted just as any street thug for assault, battery and restitution for damaged equipment. They were only trying to insert themselves into a situation to get their few minutes in the spotlight. They succeeded in that regard and hopefully will pay for it.

28. One of these guys is supposedly a lifeguard and the other a wannabe photographer (Malibu Mag). Wonder if they will keep those jobs. Lifeguards are supposed to protect people on the beach, not beat them.

29. These Malibu boy's, are at Zuma Beach right now. They are working with young kids. Some from out of town and some that live here. By the way, most kid's that live here are not rich and you're and ignorant if you think they are.
These boy's your looking at give their time to the community, and in this instant, protecting it.
To the reader's calling these boy's surf nazis and hooligans: You are so wrong. These young men are not in any way, deserving of such disrespect.
How much time have you spent with the kid's in your community this year?
Please understand from a mother's point of view....How would you like to have one of your kid's in driving school experience a paparazzi slamming on their breaks mid-PCH - making dangerous maneuvers ? Remember Princess Diana? She had a lot of press, but this happens all of the time here. Maybe you'll get it when someone dies that is not news worthy, but close enough to your home. I hope that never happens to any of us. We need more rules. For the guy's and gal's who want to help with the lawyer fees, you are right, they are up against big money corporations. I'm doing my best right now to help. I'm sure if you want to help please call the city of Malibu. We are praying for these young men.
The boy's on the beach that day were protecting themselves.
I know, this happened on PCH to me with my son a few times.
This is the attitude these paps bring to our town. They have used their mikes and tripods as weapons. They are in compitition for the money picture. (Although I understand TMZ does not work this way.)
