226. What is up with everyone thinking that they way she raised her kids led to this? Teenagers are known for bad decisions and rebelling. I sure as hell did it when I was that age. I knew all about birth control, did sex-ed and I was still stupid enough to attempt having sex without protection. After a scare, I smartened up. It was in no way a reflection on the way I was raised. It was just me making bad decisions because to me it felt good. Who's to say she didn't use birth control and have it fail?

Now...I don't agree with her wanting her to get married to "make it right". I don't believe these kids even know what true love is yet and should not get married. She is using marriage as a punishment for a mistake that was made.

I am not a republican or democrat supporter. I am a Canadian and have an unbiased view. I really don't understand what is going on down there. Up here everything is pretty simple, we want to move forward in time and push for more freedom, if we have rights taken away from us it is to enhance the safety and well being of our citizens. There is too much religion in your politics. I don't believe a country should be run on religious belief. Don't worry about what someone else chooses to do, Everyone has their own beliefs and makes decisions accordingly. Tossing religion in won't increase faith, it reduces freedom for people who choose to think for themselves. If you want to share your beliefs, then step outside politics and devote your time to teaching people about your religion where people are not forced into things.

234. It's odious for the McCain/Palen campaign to parade these two knocked up teenagers as poster children for "family values". Protecting your kids is a family value they seem to have overlooked. What on earth are they demonstrating to the young people of America? Using her pregnant child and Down's baby the way she has is exploitation of the children and manipulation of the voter. It's not about Palin being a perfect parent, by throwing these kids to the wolves, it's that she has no class. I can't imagine Hillary Clinton or Laura Bush doing such a thing.

They choose to help others and participate in open adoptions.

“I am sure that 15 year old girl's life you mentioned would be much better if someone had taught her about birth control and some weird older man wasn't taking such an abnormal interest in her and her baby.” - Actually it was his wife that brought the pregnant child home. She was the pregnant teens’ school crossing guard and she was crying on her way to/from school. My SIL knew her and talked with her. Helped her call her mother and helped her tell her once unwed pregnant teen mother about the pregnancy. After screaming at her daughter. Calling her a whore and many other names. She told her she would drive her to the abortion clinic tomorrow. The girl didn’t want that. But the mother was adamant. My SIL came home crying but that was the end of it for her. That weekend my brother and SIL discovered the teenager in their home. She had come to see their teenage daughter and asked that she hide her because her mom was going to MAKE her have an abortion. Again my family stepped in and asked that maybe they could wait, since they had plenty of time to abort until everyone was done screaming and crying. The teenager stayed with them for about a week, went home and her and her mother had a talk. Both the mother and child came back to my brother and his wife and asked them for help. She had a beautiful little girl and my brother and his wife became surrogate grandparents to this child and parents to both unwed mothers. BTW they are only 4 years older than pregnant teen's mother.

Both of the unwed mothers knew and had received more than abstinence education. They like most children made poor decisions. So when you say choice you only mean birth control or abortion?

They live in poverty and their children wind up populating the criminal justice system.” There are economic books out there that agree about abortion statistics and crime. Read this woman’s book it may shock you beyond comprehension: Margaret Sanger, the founder of the organization that is today Planned Parent and her thoughts on eugenics. I’ll give you one excerpt:

“It is said that the aboriginal Australian, the lowest known species of the human family, just a step higher than the chimpanzee in brain development, has so little sexual control that police authority alone prevents him from obtaining sexual satisfaction on the streets.”

Well at least she believed in evolution.

Two more recent contributions to your argument: "The Impact of Legalized Abortion on Crime" and "Feakonomics", support a causal relationship between higher abortion rates and the fall in crime. There are many who view these same statistics as a form of genocide to minority communities.

239. #232 Mel I think your SIL has no regard for her marriage. I can't imagine bringing all that drama into my marital home. Marriage is difficult enough without being married to someone who puts the needs of strangers over the needs of her own family. Your brother, God bless him, sounds like he has no control over his own household. I feel sorry for him. He sounds like a good guy.

My whole argument and I've been responding to a fellow anti-choicer named Rachel on this site, is that right wing Christians/Jews/Muslims etc have no business imposing their minority "morality" on the general population through a secular govenment office. Keep religion out of politics. No one is perfect. Look at all the "family values" politicians who have been caught with their pants down. No one would care about the personal lives of these politicians, Sarah Palin included, if they weren't trying to force their hypocritial religious beliefs down our throats through legislation, funding and most importantly through the selection of judges for the Supreme Court.

Unlike Rachel, you sound like an intelligent person, but your beliefs are no more valid than mine. Each person has to choose his or her own destiny. Abortion rights should not even be part of this debate. It only resurfaces because certain "religious" minority groups want to impose their will on the majority. Until more people are willing to exercise their civic right to vote and this right wing wacko segment loses their political influence, it will continue to be an issue.
