Now PETA's Got Beef With....

...the American Cancer Society!?! WTF?!

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, a group with wayyy too much time on their hands, is now going after the American Cancer Society ... for trying to fight cancer -- in humans!

After the ACS went after Michael Jordan for smoking during a softball game earlier this week, the folks at PETA, who obviously couldn't stand to see another organization get attention, released a strongly worded letter of their own -- attacking the people dedicated to helping actual, living Homo sapiens.

Here's the statement: "The ACS needs to get its own act together before it calls a foul on Michael Jordan." See, PETA claims the folks at the ACS are hypocrites because they have fundraisers where they serve "cancer-linked" foods -- and by cancer-linked they mean dead animal, like beef.

Imagine how screwed the Muscular Dystrophy Association's gonna be when PETA finds out Jerry Lewis had a steak once.

I am not against eating animals, BUT they should be treated as humanely as possible and slaughtered humanely as possible. Why do people turn a blind eye to what happens in slaughterhouses? If an animal's sole purpose in life is to be used as food, the least we can do is treat them well!

47. It happens to be true that animal products, particularly those that are factory-farmed and loaded with pesticides and other chemicals as well as all those gunky fats, do increase certain cancers, And not all of us follow the Bible...many Buddhists follow vegan diets and don't wear leather or fur because our religion is based on compassion, as well as knowing that we are all interconnected, humans and animals alike -- we don't want to cause unnecessary suffering to living creatures who live and die miserably to satisfy our dietary and fashion wants. Make your own dietary choices as you see fit, but PETA is correct on this subject.

48. I have been a quite by-stander my whole life when it comes to Peta. I support their tenacious approach towards certain medical and clothing corporations because I feel there are other options available than animal testing (in some instances) But when it comes to the issue of Peta standing in the way of research of one of the big three diseases I just wanted to say my piece. Aids, Cancer, and Heart disease are not a place for Peta to try to interfere. I have lost my grandmother, three aunts and my father to Cancer. I would do ANYTHING I could to eradicate these diseases if I could. And the only thing I would wish in return is when its my time to go, I want to go quick and painless. This wish isn't ever available to people who suffer from these dreaded disease. Animals are very important to us, there's no doubt about that. But when it comes to making the choice between us or them there is no choice.

49. PETA is full of a bunch of wack jobs who have nothing better to do than go after every sort of organization/person who isn't PETA. I am an animal lover, I have rescued animals and adopted all my pets... however I am a meat eater. I guess that makes me a TERRIBLE human being. PETA will go after you for not cutting your veggies properly. They are full of hypocrites... I would love to find out how many products they used daily that are tested on animals and they dont even know it. Until one of them are dieing from Cancer then ACS is BAD BAD BAD... then they will cry for their help. I bet any money on it.

UNTIL THEN.... Get a freakin LIFE... Put all that energy to something good and useful like actually saving an animal or helping them find good homes.

50. VERY NICELY Said A. Bennett.

I couldn't agree with you more.

51. Yeah, I'm all for the spiritualism and such, but I think it's dangerous and unethical to spread one-sided opinions that are misrepresented as facts. And the issue is really whether PETA should be calling anyone “hypocritical” when they themselves are 100% guilty of being hypocrites in the first place. They weaken their own argument by being no better than those who they claim to oppose.

Yes, it’s good to follow a healthy, varied diet and get plenty of exercise. And there are studies that show meat has carcinogens, but so far nothing has shown that you will ABSOLUTELY get cancer if you eat meat. Meat has been a part of human diet for thousands of years; it’s what partially defines us as a species. I’d almost say the carcinogens have more to do with the WAY we get our meat today than the meat itself. What about the level of preservatives put in meat to keep it fresh? Why don’t they concern themselves with that link?

No; they’d rather be butthurt…

HUMANS ARE ANIMALS, TOO!!!

53. Why can't those idiots in PeTA find anything better to do, like disbanding and shutting the hell up? They're up there with NAMBLA and the ACLU on the list of the most useless and stupidest organizations ever created.

54. This actually makes sense. There is plenty of research and literature linking the consumption of animal protein to cancer. I'm not a scientist, so I can't do a good job of getting into this, but I can say a good book on this that looks at the science behind it as opposed to the ethics is "The China Study." I think this particular case actually has very little to do with animal cruelty, and more about how these animals actually effect our health. I know a few people who after researching how animal protein can contribute to poor health (myself included) has either severely restricted their consumption of it or eliminated it all together (and most of these people will still wear leather, to push the point that this isn't entirely about ethics).

56. People Eating Tasty Animals - I am a member of that!! I hunt those hunks of meat too! Love elk, moose and that tasty cow! Yummy.

57. PETA has not really thought this "eat no beef" idea all the way through. Guess what would happen if one day eating
beef was outlawed? All those cows would be killed by the farmers. The farmers would have no reason to feed and
vaccinated the animals at a huge expense, so they would kill. Not only that, but farmers have liability insurance (Really)
on all their animals in case they escape and cause accidents, etc..
I think some of these PETA members should get girlfriends and
stop their misguided if not outright Insane activities. Now: What are Lindsay, Brit and Paris up to?
That is all I care about.
