Republicans Lack Heart!

Ann and Nancy Wilson are pissed at the Republican Party and have fired off a cease and desist letter to the McCain/Palin campaign.

Specifically, the Heart women are upset that the GOP has used their classic "Barracuda" as a theme song for Sarah Palin. TMZ obtained a statement from Heart's rep, who says "The Republican campaign did not ask for permission to use the song, nor would they have been granted that permission."

The statement goes on: "We have asked the Republican campaign publicly not to use our music. We hope our wishes will be honored."

We're told Ann was watching TV today and heard the song at the convention when Palin was touted.

UPDATE: Twenty minutes after we posted this story, the GOP ended the evening after McCain's speech with the song, "Barracuda."

16. I guess..., If they approve of Obama's message of course they would. What an idiotic question!!!
No artist wants their art, be it music, film, paintings etc., used in a way which is inconsistent with the message they, the artist, intended to send. It doesn't matter whether you are getting airtime or not. What matters is the integrity of your art. And evven if you don't like or approve of the group or their music, offhand I can't remember anything they've ever done and I'm not sure I've even heard of them but they still have a right to decide how their work is going to be used.
The other question is whether the Republican campaign paid proper royalties or not. You'd think with all the flack they've been getting from using songs without the original performer's permission, they'd be more careful. Then again, a party that did such a lousy job of vetting their vice-presidential candidate is unlikely to do a better job on their music.

18. Heart is a legendary rock group you morons. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO USE OTHER PEOPLE'S MUSIC WITHOUT THEIR PERMISSION - it does not matter who that group is. THE REPUBLICAN PARTY KEEPS DOING THIS BECAUSE THEY DON'T GIVE A SH*T ABOUT ANYBODY THAT DISAGREES WITH THEM. Also, just because you are from the south does not mean you have to be a moron, MARY!!! I am from the south and am a democrat who believes in evolution and intelligent THOUGHT (not to be confused with the joke that is intelligent design). TRY IT OUT!!

28. Actually this is not entirely a true statement, "YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO USE OTHER PEOPLE'S MUSIC WITHOUT THEIR PERMISSION". I can cite case law if you like but since no one will tell me the name of that damn song I'll make you look up the law for yourselves.
