Republicans Lack Heart!

Ann and Nancy Wilson are pissed at the Republican Party and have fired off a cease and desist letter to the McCain/Palin campaign.

Specifically, the Heart women are upset that the GOP has used their classic "Barracuda" as a theme song for Sarah Palin. TMZ obtained a statement from Heart's rep, who says "The Republican campaign did not ask for permission to use the song, nor would they have been granted that permission."

The statement goes on: "We have asked the Republican campaign publicly not to use our music. We hope our wishes will be honored."

We're told Ann was watching TV today and heard the song at the convention when Palin was touted.

UPDATE
: Twenty minutes after we posted this story, the GOP ended the evening after McCain's speech with the song, "Barracuda."

Stay tuned.

586. It is very sad that instead of feeling flattered that any artist would react so violently against anyone who is campaigning and using their song to back them. Van Halen also did the same thing. You don't have to agree with the platforms of the participants but understand that they are FANS.. do you really appreciate them so little that you would be so ugly? Ask nicely, don't sue. Ignorance and viciousness crosses all walks of life, by suing they are showing they feel "offended" by audacity of the Republicans to use their song. I have to agree with a previous remark, of course they would be TICKLED if the Democrats had done the same and OF COURSE wouldn't be suing over the oversight of not asking permission.

Such an ugly attitude just shows these artists in their true light. They say they are open minded and fair because they are liberal but far from acting that way they are showing that if anything they are quite the opposite. I mean really, Palin named her youngest VAN HALEN because she is such a fan!

Boo Heart... yes, no one knows you much now, but wasn't it Foreigner who started a tour opening for you and finished with you opening for them? No wonder. You should be THRILLED anyone wants to hear that bad song anyhow.

587. I went a Gretchen Wilson concert about two years ago. At that concert she sang the song "Barracuda". I watched the convention and the song started to play and it sounded just like Gretchen, so I figured it was, especially since she attended the convention and is a support of Senator John McCain. So I think it was Gretchen Wilson's version they were playing not Ann and Nancy Wilson's. These women need to "cool their jets". Plus they should be happy that the song they originally sang was used for such an amazing women like Sarah Palin and not for that stupid, ignorant man... think ya know who I'm talking about...

588. I am a fan of some of their music, but like most entertainers they are out of touch. Who remembers the dixie chicks. everyone liked them once also.

589. It never ceases to amaze me just how rude and downright stupid some people are!! These great women have spent the lives writing music and have played sell-out concerts around the world and have become rich doing so. The idiots who made nasty remarks here haven't done a thing with their own lives and don't know sh--! You morons are the reason this country is in such horrible condition. It's morons like you who voted for Bush in the first place and now we all have to suffer for your immense stupidity! In between your next text message and before you turn on your Ipod, why don't you open a book and read something for once. And please Aholes, show these classic rock Icons their much deserved respect.

590. With Palins 17yr old daughter preggers the Repubs should have used
HEARTS song: MAGIC MAN
Cold late night not long ago
in soft knit skin tight lows
A pretty man came to me
Never seen eyes so blue
I could not run away
It seemed wed seen each other in a dream
It seemed like he knew me
He looked right through me
Come on home, girl he said with a smile
You dont have to love me yet
Lets get high awhile
But try to understand
Try to understand
Try try try to understand
Im a magic man.

Winter nights we sang in tune
Played inside the months of moon
Never think of never
Let this spell last forever
Summer over passed to fall
Tried to realize it all
Mama says shes worried
Growing up in a hurry

592. Wow. These comments are... special. As to an earlier comment about women being happy about Palin because she IS a woman-- no. Just no. This is leaving any political affiliation I might have by the wayside, mind you.
Move on from the fat jokes, the hair jokes, etc. It's just a song, and I wouldn't be surprised if everything had been blown out of proportion over a simple 'no'. On the other hand, celebs also have a long history of being jackasses. Who knows?

593. KUDOS to HEART for being willing to stand up for what they believe in and not let their song help another war-mongering despot into office.

HEART has plenty of heart and character and class!

594. they should be happy that anyone even remembers them or their stupid song..

Posted at 1:15PM on Sep 11th 2008 by stan de man

595. the only war mongering despot in office was bill clinton or have you forgotten that he sold arms to yasser arafat to kill israelis, supported the killing of 2000+ christians in kosovo & burn hundreds of christian churches just to get the help of muslims $$$$$$ that kind of help..obviously your view is myopic. as all liberals are..

597. I am dismayed to see the misogyny and prejudice that is being hurled at these talented and, yes, enduring artists. I can catch any of their many hits on any given day on the radio. To those who don't know who the Wilson sisters are, it is your loss. They are admirable for their musical ability as well as their intellect. It's to be expected that they would not want their life's work to be misrepresented. It is ironic that this particular song is about the abuse of artists by the corporate music industry who disrespect the artists that they exploit. The McCain/Palin campaign has continued to ignore the Wilsons' please to cease and desist. Ironic, too, is the commentaries by those who are supportive of Ms. Palin for her ability to stand up for her beliefs, yet spew sexist hatred for Ann and Nancy for doing just that. the hypocrisy is deafening.

598. The reality: We are the most hated country in the world. There were NO weapons of mass destruction - well not until we dropped them on a country that had not declared war on us. The dollar is in the worst shape in history. There are more people out of work and looking for food to feed their families in this country then ever before. More people are living without healthcare then ever before. The price of gas is taking large bites out of everyone’s paycheck with higher food prices, commute prices and domestic travel. The real question is: Who has a plan to take us out of the war, improve our relationships with the world, give back some financial meaning to the dollar and stand up the oil company lobbyist. From what I have read and heard from the speeches by McCain himself, he seems to think that everything is hunky dory in this country and plans to keep going with the Bush plan – the very one that got us where we are today. Additionally, I do worry about Palin as president. This is a real fear, McCain is not in perfect health currently and Palin would be a heartbeat away from the presidency. Running a remote state for two years, one with a tiny population that has been owned and operated by the Oil and Gas companies for years, does not make one ready to run the most powerful country in the world. I also don’t understand why she keeps talking about “the bridge to nowhere”, the fact is she did support it and she is currently supporting 200 billion more dollars for new projects just like that one. Even the website that her people say to visit to support her, factcheck.org, says that she has not be honest about her support of the government earmarks. I want her to stop lying and wasting our time and start talking about issues that affect ALL of us Americans, if she wants the big job, then she needs to start talking about issues outside of her one narrow view of Alaska. A State with a population that is 47th out of 50 states. I want someone in office that recognizes that things are not good and need to be fixed right away. I want someone who understands and cares about my family and what they need like food, healthcare, education, happiness. I hear more of those words from Obama then I do McCain so he will get my vote.

599. Whatever dude! We are not the most hated country in the world!! That is a lie that the far left keep babbling and yet all of the tourists from all over the world I talk to tell me how much they love our country and that most of their fellow citizens do as well! Stop drinking the Kool-Aid!! And STFU to effing Heart! Who cares about them? So they're still playing gigs? Where? In some small corner bars around the country? LOL!
Someone mentioned protesters! They are a bunch of pukes! Not to mention a bunch of whiners! You should read some of the stupid letters that these idiots have been writing to the Editors and the editors are stupid enough to print their blatant lies! Like one idiot claimed that the raid on one house in St. Paul was done without a warrant! LIE! They had a warrant! I wonder if anyone heard about the scary whack-job who tried to deliver a 'citizen's arrest warrant' to some of the delegates only to be (GASP!) stopped! And when she refused to leave they (BIG SHOCK!) ARRESTED HER! Anyone babbling any crap to the contrary is lying their a** off!

600. So Sally, I guess the weak dollar, the $4.00 a gallon gas, the cuts in healthcare and education, this high cost of food, the high unemployment rates and the dead guys that keep coming home in flag draped coffins are all a lie too. Those are some creative liberals. They must have George Lucas doing their special effects for them. I am ready for a change and I don't think a continuation of the current administration is going to do it. Additionally, I certainly wouldn't want my art associated with any of this political mess, so I can't blame them for getting angry.
