Republicans Lack Heart!

Ann and Nancy Wilson are pissed at the Republican Party and have fired off a cease and desist letter to the McCain/Palin campaign.

Specifically, the Heart women are upset that the GOP has used their classic "Barracuda" as a theme song for Sarah Palin. TMZ obtained a statement from Heart's rep, who says "The Republican campaign did not ask for permission to use the song, nor would they have been granted that permission."

The statement goes on: "We have asked the Republican campaign publicly not to use our music. We hope our wishes will be honored."

We're told Ann was watching TV today and heard the song at the convention when Palin was touted.

UPDATE: Twenty minutes after we posted this story, the GOP ended the evening after McCain's speech with the song, "Barracuda."

Sara, you fool, I'm an attorney, but you don't have to be one to understand that the GOP pays an agency that ISN'T Heart to use the song BEFORE it is played, and Heart can't pull the rights after it has been paid for them. Get it? Sure, Heart may own the song (or may not; they may have sold the rights), but THEY DON'T PERSONALLY APPROVE EVERY USE OF IT IN ADVANCE!. What other things that you don't vaguely comprehend would you like to rant about?

92. I've posted this before, if these performers want to play politics with music, then please place a D or R on your cd's movies and concert's. Let people decide if they want to buy the product or not let these people put their money where their mouth is. Put across you cd or movie-------for democrats only. Besides when was the last time you heard any of these people on the radio-----Jackson Brown or Van Halen or Heart. Have to admit, I got out my old Heart cd's, these people always have to ruin a good thing. Just shut up--maybe someone will actually want to listen to you again.

94. The music is not being used in a commercial or anything, just at the convention & at rallies. The band has absolutely no copyright claims here.

BTW, at least Brooks & Dunn, who are Republicans and even played the very song live at the GOP convention in 2004, didn't throw a hissy fit when Obama used their song "Only In America" at his rally. They just said they were flattered that it was used by both parites and that it appealed to many Americans. So much classier than Heart...

95. All the rude comments from McCain-Palin supporters just go to prove that the GOP is the party of HATE and DIVISION. McCain dishonors his service and that of other hundreds of POWs by making it into fodder for his raw ambition,. Sarah Palin the most vile political speech as I have ever seen. I can't believe ANYONE would want to be associated with the mean-spirited display of pure selfishness and nasty spitefulness that was the GOP convention.

99. I'm curious, is it a gray area? TV shows do need specific to licenses to broadcast music, live events may be different, and televised live events probably pose their own interesting conundrums ... I'd be interested to hear someone who isn't just spewing their bile.
