Celebrity Justice
Crazy Is Really, Really Expensive

New bills in the Britney Spears conservatorship case -- No, she's not really crazy, but she's forced to spend like a crazy woman.

According to court documents, Britney's court-appointed attorney, Samuel Ingram, billed her for 663.4 hours over a seven-month period. Grand total -- $248,625. Who says you can't put a price on a mother's love?

In a separate filing, the attorney for Britney's dad, Geraldine Wyle, wants herself some reimbursements -- including $655.50 for photocopying and $25 for a private room at the courthouse. Every little bit helps.

16. I'm not an attorney, but I KNOW for a fact that $375 is extremely reasonable considering the scope of the case.

18. gee.....she took tons of drugs, made stupid choices because she is emotionally about 14, and now has to pay for what she did. so what. too bad. as soon as she realizes she isn't as popular as she used to be, she'll probably act bad again.

21. I know somebody who works at a law firm, and this person has told me that even emails sent between the lawyer and the client are billed, at a tune of about $10 per regular email (i.e. the time it took the lawyer to respond to an email). Sickening.

22. As an attorney, I can only imagine how much exta work she made her attorneys do. Legal fees are just really high, and hers sound completely in line with the going rate. Litigation is expensive for everyone, especially if you go to a reputable firm that does quality work. High legal fees don't mean she got screwed over or taken advantage of for being a celebrity.

23. Thieving lawyers. Something MUST be reformed about lawyer billing practices.

Shame on any judge who ok's this transparent crap.

24. Serves her right. She acted like a fool. She stole Kevin form Shar. She had babies to try to manipulate him into staying with her. He leaves so she "goes crazy", gets whacked out on drugs, manages to endangered AND neglect her children. Pretends she's crazy to get sympathy. The list goes on and on. She deserves what she gets. And her getting 3 awards...well that just goes to show she's not outta money yet. With the lame attempts she's made there's no way she deserved any award, much less 3 of them. She had to have bought them somehow.

William, what precisely do you think it is that clients are paying for when they retain attorneys? Widgets? Hamburgers? Used cars? No. They are paying for the attorney's advice and his time. The time spent advising the client and working on his case are billable, so of course the time spent rendering advice to the client via electronic communications is billable. It's no different than if the lawyer were talking to the client face to face or on the telephone. Duh!

Britney's court-appointed attorney and his firm performed the services that the court appointed them to do. I see nothing wrong about them getting compensation for their time and out of pocket expenses.

26. Parasite, I'm with you, dude. This is a transparent attempt to make money from defending Britney against those lawsuits against her touring company in Florida and that Jon Eardley mess, and all the fallout from her broken business contracts -- I say fire the lawyers and let everyone suing Brit Brit take a default judgment against her.
