MTV's Real World Deforestation Challenge

Contrary to the goals of the MTV's current Green Crusade, the most recent MTV "Real World/Road Rules" challenge -- which premiered last week -- seems to pit competing teams against each other in an effort to wreak the most havoc on Panamanian rainforests.

The devastation left behind once the shoot wrapped was described in a recent article from the Tree Climber's Coalition. They say MTV left the formerly pristine area riddled with trash, unstruck sets, and even discarded scripts for the so-called "reality" series.

Apparently when MTV execs see green, they're not looking at the environment.

Calls to MTV were not immediately returned.

32. To 'Have Ya Been There,' I have been there and yes while the city leaves a lot to be desired the rainforest, well parts of it, are still pristine, And MTV is only making the problem worse. They need to receive some sort of punishment for this.

33. Once again...what do you expect from MTV..MTV is ran by hypocritical trash..what else would you expect? And they really do not give a damn or take are resposibility for any of their moronic antics..They should send their trash talking so-called comedian Russell Brand to clean up this mess..trash normally loves trash..I hate MTV! 38. While the location MTV trashed makes this story stand out, the concept of media leaving piles of trash behind isn't unique. The piles of trash Fox left in their outdoors/tented media area at the RNC are going on day 10. Buckets of mystery liquid, partially eaten food, cables, cardboard, etc. They apparently threw flat screen tvs in the trash heaps. (While that is wasteful, it is also an inappropriate way to discard t.v.s. Those don't belong in the trash. I can't dispose of a t.v. in the trash; I need to make arrangements to get it to a recycling center. I am unaware of any media-exemptions to trash restrictions.)

The areas outside of the convention center occupied by other media outlets aren't much different.

Again, while I live in St. Paul and have to look at this daily, I find the mess MTV left in a rainforest far more troubling. There's nothing "real" about trashing the rain forest.

39. Just need to practice their public service announcements. If you air them, then prove that you know what is on your own TV channel. Hope the silence from MTV means they sent someone to clean up the mess and reclaim the land they ruined. However, that does not mean to push it out to sea either.

43. The mess left is very typical of a production the size of RR. Production company will say they contracted to have the sets struck and site restored to its prior state. MTV will blame the production company, they will blame the local contractor and on and on...

44. If you people really care, then do something about it! Boycott MTV. Call in or email them and let them know how you feel. That channel is already circling the drain and is ready to be flushed. They went downhill many years ago with MTV Raps, trying to keep up with the youngsters, and now can only produce "reality" shows. I haven't watched MTV in years and don't miss it at all. And I already sent a message to them letting them know that they suck. It's that easy.

45. TO ROB and CRYSTAL #39 You have a thing about Special Olympics?? Couldn't come up with your own opinion about these photos?? I have a child in the Special Olympics, when he saw these pics, he put his head down. That was it, no more,no less. Care to comment?
