Sources tell us Travis Barker and DJ AM saved their own lives after their plane crashed by jumping out the door of the burning plane, almost immediately after the small jet came to a halt.
As we reported, both are at a burn center, but it could have been fatal. The Learjet was already on fire when they fled.
61. It is amazing anyone survived. How long did it take you to think to ask if they tried to help the others? They probably had like 3 seconds to react. It is entirely possible the others were already dead.

62. these type of tragedies happen quite frequently, way back to Carole Lombard and probably before. The take off and landing are the two most dangerous parts of flying, that is why you say a prayer on the way up and thank god when you get down safely. As for the person who inquired why they saved no one else and jumped out saving their own lives, I'd like for him to think in a few seconds and wonder would he be able to think of all these things in a split second or is he a neanderthal. I think neanderthal.

64. Some of you have very disturbing issues. Four people are DEAD, and two are seriouslyinjured! There was a FIRE! Do you really think they were thinking about- anything except "GEAT OUT"? Is it not possible that they could not SEE anything? Glass houses people! I, for one, wish the two surviving men the best and hope for a speedy recovery. For the families who lost loved ones...My heart hurts for you.

68. I don't know if anyone will read this as it is so far back in the comments. My father was a jet pilot and he flew private planes. I know that in a case like this, it is a miracle these two men were able to jump to safety. In a split second all one can do is make the decision to survive. Particularly if they are burned. Also, jet fuel is very caustic. Immediate instinct would be to get out of it. DJ did go back to see if there were survivors, but first they had to get out of the plane and put the fire out on their clothing. Also, jet fuel is not something you want on your injured skin. It will take your immediate attention.
The odds were against these men's survival. This will undoubtedly be one of the most tragic days of their lives and the last thing they need is criticism.

69. If you are on fire it is not really possible for you to rescue other people. I can't even imagine surviving what they endured. My heart goes out to these two young men.

72. Some of the people leaving comments seriously need to get your priorities straight~no-one except the people on the plane know exactly what happened and they haven't been able to say much. They may be stars but their also someones son and someones Dad. Amen to the KARMA comment it's a bitch and it will come back too you.
