Heath Ledger's Entire Estate Left to Daughter

After months of closed-door court meetings -- all of Heath Ledger's estimated $20 mil estate will go to his 2-year old daughter Matilda Rose.

According to news reports, Heath's dad Kim Ledger says the will originally had all the assets divided up to his parents and sisters, but Heath's family thought the right thing to do was to give it all up -- for the benefit of Matilda.

Heath Ledger died of an accidental prescription pill overdose in January.

16. Sometimes, it's just "the right thing to do." This is one of those times. But it's amazing that there are so many who would not "do the right thing."

17. I think it's wonderful. Nice to see people care about someone else rather than themselves. Nice to know they put aside all of thier issues for the sake of the child. Not sure what she would do with $20 million dollars but I guess it work.

20. That is wonderful they did the right thing. Im sure Heath is smiling from Heaven. Too bad that there are other families that would be so heartless and greedy in cases like this. People could learn alot from the Ledger family.

21. Wow, stand up people connected to Hollywood, who'd of thunk it? Good people those Ledgers, good people. Now I hope that Matilda is brought up to respect and care for her father's family in their old age.

24. #5, you're thinking of The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. Johnny Depp, Colin Farrel and Jude Law are all donating their salary from that movie to his daughter

25. He died intestate, obviously not updating the last known will to provide for his daughter (absent evidence of him deliberately intending to disinherit her). As a result, his parents would have gotten nothing, anyway. When a person dies intestate, in most jurisdictions, the inheritance moves down (to children, then grandchildren, then great-grandchildren, etc.) If there are no descendants, then the inheritance ascends to parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, etc. If there are no ascendants left, then it moves out to aunts and uncles. If they are no longer around, it moves to cousins, etc. You get the picture.

So, Ledger's family would have gotten nothing, anyway, because he had one descendant, once DNA was done on the child (no presumption of paternity because the parents weren't married). The family would have looked really bad if they'd tried to block anything or taken it as far as paternity testing when the little girl is clearly the spitting image of him and he claimed her, so they backed off in order to save face and maintain a relationship with her and her mother. (Hence the "closed door meetings.") Good choice. Choose the relationship over the money. Despite not having the law on their side, this choice makes them good people, anyway.

26. Legal Eagle are you trying to insinuate that Heath wanted to disinherit his daughter just because he didn't update his will? How about he didn't update his will because he didn't think he was going to die so soon! It's not like he planned to OD I'm sure if he knew he was in some kind of mortal trouble he would have updated his will to include his daughter. As for the family's relationship with Michelle, from what I've read & understood, they've always had a good relationship so IMO that relationship was never in jeopardy of being in trouble or ruined.

28. I predict a great future as Harley Quinn for her.

29. Thanks strider! I thought I had caught some bit of news regarding that. Thought it was pretty cool, as is this story, that mentions his OWN family looking after his daughter.

I can't believe some of the crude and glib comments about her though. Must be the affects of 'reality tv" rotting the minds of our youth and making ignorant asses out of them, because the DRAMA is where it's at apparently. NASTY sells.

30. Heath will rest comfortably now. He would like that I think.
