Bret Puts Brakes on "Rock" After Deadly Crash

Bret Michaels is temporarily pulling the plug on his upcoming reality show "Rock of Love Bus" to reach out to the families of two women killed in a car accident caused by a "Rock" roadie.

In a statement issued by his people at VH1, Michaels has "requested that his participation in the production ... be temporarily suspended" as he tries to "reach out" to the families of teenagers Yasmin Jackson and Kevetta Davis. They were killed Friday on I-57 in Illinois when Dennis Hernandez, a crew member from the "Rock" production outfit, fell asleep at the wheel of a truck, crossed the median and hit two cars. Dennis was on his way to the next "Rock of Love" shooting location. He was charged for the crash.

Reps for VH1 stress Hernandez wasn't an "associate of Bret Michaels or part of his tour staff."

Here's VH1's statement in full:

A crew member from the 51 Minds Entertainment production of the upcoming 'Rock Of Love Bus' series on VH1 was involved in an auto accident on Interstate 57 in southern Illinois on Friday afternoon. The crew member, who is not an associate of Bret Michaels or part of his tour staff, was traveling alone to the next location stop for the series. The accident resulted in two fatalities in one car and injuries to two passengers in another vehicle. The crew member survived and has been released from the hospital. Local authorities continue to investigate.

Bret Michaels has requested that his participation in the production of the series be temporarily suspended in deepest sympathy as he attempts to reach out to the families of the victims. Traveling separately, Mr. Michaels had left Illinois early Friday morning and was not near the scene of the accident.

Michaels, 51 Minds Entertainment and VH1 extend their deepest sympathies to everyone involved in this terrible accident.

"As a father of two, I cannot even imagine what the families must be going through at this time. I will make every attempt to reach out to them to let them know that my heart and prayers are with them during their time of grief," said Michaels in a statement.

32. I can't believe this kind of tragedy doesn't happen more often. People on these crews and other production crews everywhere work ridiculous hours and are then put behind the wheel of a production truck and told to drive it. Scary but it happens way too often.

33. I was behind this Rock of Love bus as I drove home to St. Louis from Chicago on Monday 9/23/08. Most cars on the highway were passing me as I drove along at 75 MPH so when I went to pass a black SUV, I was surprised when it quickly pulled in front of me on the two-lane highway and slowed to 50MPH. A white van blocked the right lane and in front of these two cars were the Rock of Love tour bus and another car that looked like a production vehicle with the back open and lights and cameras filming. I was getting mad, as all I wanted to do was get by the cars and finish my long 5 hr drive home. This filming went on for over 5 minutes as the cars behind me backed up and started swerving to figure out why I was driving so slowly. The entire situation was so unsafe and I was getting nervous that someone behind me would try to get around us all. It was late...it was dark and it was such a stupid move on the part of this ridiculous show. In am so sorry for the families of the victims. What a tragedy.

34. Bret is Lying, he was around and DID NOT BOTHER TO CONTACT MY FAMILY PERIOD and Still have not, our local news room told us the information on him. Bret knew about everything, however him and his crew passed on through and proceed to do a concert in another state and the driver was picked up that caused the accident. It HURT US SO MUCH… I went home that weekend from another state to see my family as well on that day and hours later to hear what happen to my little cousin, cause our hearts to fell.. I arrived at 2:30pm very happy looking forward to visit family members, but not this way. Wer"e all trying to hold up and keep everyone lifted up were a large family that loves and cares for one another. Yasmin was a caring, sweet, friendly and respectable, fun, and full of energy. This is tragic & unbelievable. Exposed Bret, felt that no one would ever find out being that this happened in Illinois so far away from Hollywood….I have watched his show a couple of times and cannot believe the connection of life ( trying to find love) and death of my little precious cousin. Some people are so cold and only think of themselves. If the story had not been pressed by the newsroom , he would have continued with his concerts as he is doing, with no thought to the matter so he say, via internet. "God knows all and sees all things"........ My cousin Yasmin , and her room mate 19 years old, will be remember and MISSED, FOREVER….Thanks to all who are thinking of our family...Be Blessed....

36. Sorry to hear about the 2 victims. Maybe this will get him to stop seeing how many teenagers he can bang! I just saw them a week ago in Nashville partying at a college with a bunch of barely legal girls. Maybe someone should tell him thats considered a pedifile?
