"Dead" Guy Grateful to be Breathing Easy

The dude who plays guitar for the Grateful Dead -- Bob Weir -- broke his ribs riding on a tour bus. The good news -- he will get by!

We're told Weir was truckin' along in a tour bus when it had to stop short. Bob was standing and fell when the driver slammed on the brakes.

A rep tells us it hurt for Bob "to breathe, hold the guitar, and laugh."

Weir was able to finish the tour with his band, Bob Weir and the Ratdogs, but had to cancel a recent fundraiser because battling broken ribs and a cold was just too much to handle.

At least now he's got an excuse to find some medicinal alternatives...

17. ..

Phish has very little to do with GD except co-opting GDs later fan base (who were hearing the worst GD music ever performed) once GD stopped touring.

BTW, Page is nothing compared to TC, Child-molestor is nothing compared to Phil & Trey is a little boy compared to Jerry. Compare the first ten years of Jerry to the first ten years of Trey. Trey burnt out pretty fast. It took JG 20 years to lose his touch.

Besides Phish is Frank Zappa, not GD. GD had WORDS that MAKE SENSE. Phish are just a bunch of wookies.

19. It seems to me that "technical wizadry" as you call it would require a completely different skill set than that of a normal musician. With the sounds that the Grateful Dead produced from their archaic instruments certainly would prove their talent to anyone wh really undrestands music. Phish are college boys, The dead are the cutters!!

20. Note to right-wing fascists: Your self-hatred oozes profusely when you revisit that tired old sophomoric hippiephobia talk. Sorry haters, but trying to bring down people that enjoy life more than you (Deadheads, Phishheads) does nothing to dampen their collective spirit.
Now go do something constructive and attempt to teach something intlligent to your precious Palin before she sinks your silly party into oblivion.

26. Phish wouldn't be Phish if it weren't for the Dead morons! Read any Pharmer's Almanac or group member's biography and find that the Grateful Dead were instrumental to each one. Of course, Fishman's vacuum-cleaner playing must have been a creation all his own but c'mon......the Dead were jamming out for an hour when Trey was a baby!

27. Wow, If this is how you report all of your stories, TMZ has some lazy staff and editors. A simply story of a musician
involved in a motor vechile mishap and the BASIC journalistic rules are stomped on. Get your facts straight. A little research
via the internet and you will find that Bob Weir hasn't played in the Grateful Dead for 13 years! His band Ratdog isn't even touring now. Was Cowboy Neal at the wheel going to Nevereverland? Lazy reporting Hurry up, don't check sources

28. Wow mike kick a guy in the ribs when he is down, the dead and phish are almost polar opposites. At least the dead could still get along and play for their fans....

29. i saw jerry with the dead in june 1995 at their last show at soldier field in chicago!!!
a month later jerry was dead.
i'll never forget it. i love jerry. i love all the boys.
btw, phish is a rockin' band, but you can't even put phish in the same
category as the grateful dead. that's total blasphemy dude. the dead
are in a league all their own, like bob dylan.

30. The dead was one of the greatest bands ever to play music. It wasnt all about the peace, love and happiness stuff, the dead was a culture that I was lucky to be exposed to. Compared tothe crap music that people make today, the Dead was great. They didnt pay for other peoples music. They were all original and for them to play for 30 years the were doing something right. People need to get their head out of their ass and be open to listening to their music and they might just like it.
