Crying Helio Pleads Not Guilty

Helio Castroneves just tearfully pleaded to tax fraud -- and, for a guy who's known for driving at high speeds, he's not goin' anywhere fast.

He was brought into court in cuffs and shackles, and cried throughout the hearing. He had to give up his passport, and won't be allowed anywhere outside the US, though interestingly he can race this weekend in Atlanta.

Bond was set at $10 million -- $8 mil of which is security, from one of Helio's accounts in the Netherlands.

His lawyer was also arraigned along with Helio's sister, both of whom were allegedly in on the tax scheme.

19. Just make him pay what he owes and give him a huge fine but then call it a day. There are serious crimminals out there. Helio is NOT one of them.

20. Helio, Stay strong. Why do people think someone is guilty before anything has been proved. Give the guy atleast his right to innocence until proven guilty. This must be a nightmare for him and I believe he will be found not guilty!!!!

21. I wince when I hear about tax evaders being cuffed and shackled like they are serial killers. Poor Helio. I believe if a person is smart enough to make over 500K then they need a top notch cpa or a personal banker who handles the "minor details".

22. IF he is guilty he should be thrown in jail for 5 years, thrown out of the United States, never be allowed to set foot in this country again and have all his assets and money given to a non profit orginization who helps injured race car drivers and their families. OH YEAH...and never be allowed to drive a race car again...in the US which would just add to his tears as he couldnt get in anyway. If Penske does anything to help him after he is found guilty he too should be thrown in prison. How dare he throw such a shadow over the Indianapolis 500.

26. The Justice System is working priority cases first so those who have money that can bail out the judicial slush fund will be processed first, vs. those that kill... don't worry about the likes of OJ who is on trail again for brandishing a weapon (shocker)... and don't worry about Brian Nichols whom we all watch shoot people in Atlanta and can't even get him to trial... Let's go for the people with Money .. You better watch out Mr. Buffett all eyes are on you.....signed Martha Stewart

27. Keep strong Helio. Everyone knows that the government can indict a ham sandwich. I am sure your side of the story will differ from the Feds. I wish you luck, because the Feds have unlimited resources and if they want you to be guilty then they will find a way to make you guilty. I for one am on your side. Stick it to the Feds Helio!!! You are the best.

30. i would say that some idiot business tax advisor offered his services to this fellow..... so why cant the law go after the guys who lead their clients into this tax shelter b.s. i feel that he is a victim of a tax advisor earning $$$$$$ for placing his assets in these so called tax shelters. 10 million dollar bail.....wow... he is going to serve time without a doubt. let this be a warning to all business men and women , specially in the entertainment industry... dont play with fire, dont believe someone who claims they can protect your assets from the u.s. income tax... they are going to take their fees and when your sitting in a federal court, they are no where to be found.
