Shawn Johnson Feels Rodney Dangerfield's Pain

She's won an Olympic gold medal, has an inappropriate taco commercial and even appeared on "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" -- so you'd think Shawn Johnson would be considered a "celebrity".

17. Shawn Johnson is an amazing girl overall. My niece (8 years old, who just started in gymnastics after getting her black belt in Taekwondo) had several grand mal seizures unexpectedly in February. Her father works with someone whose wife is in PR and knew Shawn personally. The woman told Shawn about my niece's condition and a few days later her father came home with a giant poster (as tall as my niece) signed by Shawn with an encouraging message to her personally. My niece has never been more excited and motivated! Shawn rocks!

18. If you jerks think for a minute that this latest jab at Shawn Johnson has hurt her, you're gravely mistaken. In fact, as much as you would like to deny it, you actually paid her a compliment. Shawn is in a class way above that of the average celebrity. But here you go again, trying everything you can to discount what she's done for this country...everything from idiotic comparisons of her and a rat to taking an innocent endorsement she did and twisting it into a feeding frenzy for the morally debased. Now you're trying to hurt her again by letting her know in no uncertain terms that she's not on the inside of Hollywood looking out but rather the opposite. Well, despite your best efforts to tear her down even more, it won't work, because she has too much pride in herself to let it affect her. This whole celebrity thing is probably not that important to her anyway. But now you've piqued my curiosity...if you're so damned convinced she's not celebrity material, then why in the hell do you stalk her like she is? If she doesn't fit your idea of what a star should be, why does she constantly pop up on your website and on your TV show like all those "real" celebs? It appears to be a contradiction in terms, but you know what? I'll concede that you might actually have a point, for a change. Seems to me that, when it comes to behaving in public and dealing with slimeballs like you, there's a big difference between sweet, wholesome Shawn Johnson and the vast majority of the celebrity crowd. When run-of-the-mill stars are being tailed by one of you people, they either do one of two things: a) They erupt into a tirade and tell you to get lost, either verbally, physically, or both. b) They slow down to give you a chance to catch up so that you can video them at their best, most candid, and to volley around mindless dribble that might be mistaken for actual conversation, if it weren't for the lame content. Shawn, on the other hand, would like nothing better than to have you leave her alone when she's out, but she's too decent to make a scene and too soft-spoken to ask that you to go away. It's obvious from her puzzled reaction to your incessant stalking and retarded questions that she would love nothing more than to close her eyes and open them to see you've disappeared. But like the decent person she is, she simply gives you that dynamite smile and hurries along nervously to get to her next flight or cab or wherever she's headed when you attack. Why, then, don't you get the message and just leave her alone to get on with her life? She is, afterall, a "non-celebrity" who doesn't deserve all the attention, right?. If nothing else, you people just need to give her the respect she demands by being an Olympic champion and the privacy she's entitled to by simply being a human being. Whether she's a celebrity or not, Shawn Johnson is a good girl with a warm heart, and to hurt her in any way is unforgivable.
