Celebrity Justice
Witnesses Say Gerard Was Provoked

So we just told you the LAPD is investigating whether Gerard Butler kicked a paparazzi's ass yesterday. Well, there's more to this story.
Gerard Butler
Sources tell us witnesses have now come forward with a very different account. They are saying the papper was tailing Gerard for hours. And, they say, the photog was driving "recklessly" as he "chased" Butler's limo, almost hitting several pedestrians. The photog says he endangered no one.

The witnesses say after Gerard allegedly got out of the limo and struck the photog in the face, the photog continued following Butler for more than an hour before going to the hospital. But the agency the photog works for says Gerard struck the dude at 1:45 AM and he was at the cop shop at 2:10 AM.

And, we're told, the photog spoke with a civil lawyer before contacting cops.

91. Let's all stop responding to the jerk. We know what kind of person it is from its comments and it is only trying to get attention.
I have said before and I will repeat, violence is rarely the correct response but the pap brought it upon himself by the violence of his behavior when he endangered other people. Gerard has always seemed to be a reasonable person from the things I have read about him in the past and I think he must have been pushed beyond endurance on this occasion.
As to how he can be in this country, can you say "visa"? I knew you could. There are special visas for people who have good reasons to travel frequently from one country to another. They are also available to business people, etc.
I agree with the people who are fans of Craig Ferguson. He is one of the funniest and intelligent comics on late night today. His monologues are hilarious.
BTW: while we all can be angry about the bankers whose greed has precipitated the current economic crisis, what does that have to do with Gerard Butler punching out a pap? There a sites for political commentary and sites for comments on celebrity gossip. This is the latter. I'm really getting tired of the people who keep hijacking this site to argue one way or the other about politics. Luckily the election is only a month away. Maybe this arguing will stop then. And here I am doing much the same thing I object to. Now do you see how a person can be driven to do something they wouldn't ordinarily do?

92. A barrister is NOT a lawyer - and Mr. Butler did not/cannot practice in the US (unless he goes to school here). Doesn't drink. Don't know, I don't follow him - and regardless of what the other night was, he often times is leaving drinking establishments in his own ride - while constantly trying to hit on some child/babe out past her bedtime. His Taurus speech is priceless "If this thing doesn't get me laid..." well alrighty then... at least we know his priorities.

Hitting a pap is reactionary - but manly? Gerard knew the score. Maybe he needs to find a quieter, gentler place to dwell.

And likely, this is all for show - to promote his latest offering - and keep him in the spotlight. Seems it doesn't always matter what kind of spotlight.

93. Yeah Gerry! Well Duh!! He got what he deserves. I think Gerry should get Rocket Launchers for his Limo. He could have a little button in the back so when ever that paps are following (ooh and a Camera to get it all on tape) he could blow the craps out of the paps!!!

Good Luck Gerry and all your fans are behind you 100%!!!

94. I am totally against violence.
But it has hours that the photographers abuse. be an actor or actress does not give them the right intereferirem the comings and goings of people. everyone has the right to privacy. and when this right is violated has to be something.
And I bet he said that was not only his job, because Gerard Butler is a gentleman. and always gives attention to any postponement or are fans. then took into temque straight this history. Gerard Butler you have my support unrestricted ... Love you

95. # 23 is on the right track. GB is an honorable man. Yeah a little on the self indulgent side but what celeb out there isn't. This is a man that jumped in the river Tay to save a drowning boy. Of course if he noticed the guy driving irratically I'm sure he would do something about it. He propbably planned on speaking with the worm but his arrogant attitude that allowed him to chase GB for hours came out and GB had had enough! I hope he dosen't settle. This country is becoming sucn pacifists!!!! Our schools punish the children that were defending themselves just as hard as the childen who are bulling them. Eveything has to be fair. Bull!! You go Gerry Glad you went all Spartan on that guys face!! There is always hope.

96. At what point does the vehicle of the pap become a weapon and at what point is it necessary to protect yourself (and your own vehicle) from further attack? Mr. Butler has my support. It seems a case of self-defense and I would be surprised if the courts see it otherwise....

98. Do these papper's stalk the celebs home? Just to get a photo. I think all the celebs who are annoyed by this should bring action against the papp's for stalking and invasion of privacy. I saw Gerard on YouTube where there were about 8 papp's continually following him until he had to phone a friend to pick him up. Another time when he was with a few friends they followed him up to the time he got in his car and drove away. They are relentless and there should be a some kind of law against the papp's continual stalking. Maybe the tables should be turned around and the celebrities should follow them. And constantly take flash pictures of them.

99. Mr. Butler had been to the Premier of his new movie Rocknrolla - the reason for the limousine. I don't know what happened, but witnesses did indicate that the pap had been following the limo for sometime and driving reckously, almost hitting 2 pedestrians. Maybe we should wait for all the facts before criticising Gerard's actions. I don't believe in violence either, but the laws need to be changed to protect people for the paps before someone else get injured or killed.

100. Gosh, why am I thinking Gerard is even hotter now? He's said in the past he's gotten in to many fights. This incident pushed him over the edge and I personally would have loved to have seen it. He's gorgeous when he's pissed. :)

101. Also, I'd be curious to see this "photographer's" portfolio. It would consist of out-of-focus, badly composed, poorly exposed close ups of bare knuckles, scrunched up faces and middle fingers. That could be arty, I guess...in a very abstract sort of way...NOT!!

102. These photographers are little more than stalkers who are on a constant mission to aggravate the people they take photos of. It's no wonder celebrities lose their temper when these guys block their cars and surround them 24/7, capturing private moments and bombarding them with provocative and inappropriate questions. There should be laws that require these guys to keep their distance. A little empathy by the paparazzi is all I'm suggesting.

103. a full fist punch? ah, that's just a "Papp Slap" it would have been cooler if he (Gerard) busted his nose! ha ha

104. Hey, What happened to my comment #103? I just looked to see if anyone had commented on it....and it was gone. What's the deal? I read it yesterday and today it's gone. The 102 before it are all there. Well, let me paraphrase.... From simply everything I have heard and read about Gerard Butler, he is a nice guy. Now, this papparazzo has pushed him TOO far. Perhaps not Gerry's finest moment but how much do these guys expect the stars they "dog" to take. If GB had WANTED to really hurt this guy....we would not be looking at a wimpy split lip. Figure it out! Clearly...he was holding back. Ruthie
