B.J. to Palin: You Give My Music a Bad Name

Jon Bon Jovi just gave us a statement, bitterly complaining that Sarah Palin has been using the band's song during her rallies yesterday and today:

"We are surprised to hear that our song, "Who Says You Can't Go Home" was used by the McCain campaign at rallies yesterday and today. We wrote this song as a thank you to those who have supported us over the past twenty-five years. The song has since become a banner for our home state of New Jersey and the defacto theme song for our partnerships around the country to build homes and rebuild communities. Although we were not asked, we do not approve of their use of 'Home.'"

Jon Bon Jovi threw a dinner at his home for Obama -- $30,800 a plate. Bon Jovi is the latest to complain about McCain's campaign using songs. Heart, Foo Fighters, John Mellencamp and Jackson Browne have also griped.

93. This is sooo funny. You listen to them at the rallys...."Joe Six Pack, the Hockey Moms, and Nascar Dads". Don't bother me blacksareracists. These are the code words Palin is using. She's trying to appeal to the lowest level.
It's a good thing that the educated and enlightened members of society will now take a stand.
14 point lead is right....it's probably gonna be 20 points after tonight.
LMOL that Palin really said Nascar Dads...what a freak'n joke she is and if you don't believe me wait till november.
--and then I'll have to get back to ya!

94. Read the statement again. He isn't censoring their use of the song, he isn't telling them to stop using it. He is just putting it on the record that he believes that the Republican candidates do not reflect the meaning and purpose of the song as it was written and as it was intended to be used.

He knows quite well that they paid any required fees and are within the law, but he wants other people to know how he feels about this particular use of his work. That is his right as an artist, whether or not you agree with his assessment. I'm sure any of you could think of similar situations where something you created was then used to promote something you were very much against. Even if legally you couldn't stop it, you would certainly want to make sure other people knew you weren't approving it.

I would also guess that the money per plate at the dinner was going mostly to an appropriate charity, because of the upper limit on individual campaign donations. TMZ (and others) often lies by omission of the relevant facts ...

95. Boo-hoo--Cry Me A River--so they used your song...cry babies....oh--let me charge a butt load of money to host a dinner for a wanna be President while probably the same amount of people who showed up died of starvation somewhere else. Good job Bon Jovi--they should give you an award for that--

96. All this cry babying over their music being used by McCain/Palin, but no one is talking about how Obama has yet to prove he is a natural born US citizen as the Constitution states he must be to run for president. Why won't he provide his birth certificate and medical records? What is he hiding? He has been ordered by a judge to provide this information and still refuses.
But instead we're talking about how Sarah Palin likes to hunt, just like millions of other American citizens.
No wonder this country is in the state it is.

you are an idiot. If that were the case the election wouldn't have gotten as far as it has.

97. so much for being so worried about the economy when you can spend $30,800 for a plate of BO

98. Didn't Hank Williams Jr just make some corny-@$$ song for Palin? Why isn't she blasting that crap at her rallies? Jon Bon Jovi wrote the song, he is not a McCain/Palin supporter, and he has every right to b!tch about Sarah Barracuda using HIS music without HIS permission at her inbred redneck hatefests...ahem...I mean "political rallies".

99. What a bunch of winers Democrats are, especially the pampered celebrities. They should be glad their music is getting out there. Republicans buy their CD's as well as Democrats. Do they think they got rich because only Liberals purchased their music? Spoiled little bitches!

103. Pity....I used to like Jon Bon Jovi. This makes me think twice about it though...he comes off as an arrogant, self-important Hollywood jerk. He should be happy someone cares enough about his music to want to play it....and I'm sure he's getting royalties for it. As long as he's paid his salary, he needs to keep his pie hole shut about who plays his music. That goes for all the other so-called musicians out there whining because someone who doesn't agree with their political views played their music. They sound like a bunch of spoiled brats.
