Gossip & Rumors
Oprah Could Go Brit for Obama

Blimey! Could Oprah Winfrey give up her post as Queen of All Media to be ... Barack Obama's British ambassador?

Yeah, we know it sounds ridiculous -– and the Financial Times admits it does, too –- but "well-placed sources" are floating the rumor. They argue since O's been such an ardent B.O. proponent, she could have her pick of plum embassy jobs.

The FT also says the smart money is on Caroline Kennedy, whose granddad also served in the post -- if ingloriously.

17. Democratic Rep. John Murtha said Monday some of his constituents in western Pennsylvania are "rednecks" and the entire region just five to 10 years ago was "really redneck."

The comments come one week after he called his own constituents "racist" in an interview with his local newspaper.

"What I said, that indicted everybody, that's not what I meant at all. What I mean is there's still folks that have a problem voting for someone because they are black," Murtha said.

Murtha said the history of southwestern Pennsylvania is teeming with racism. "This whole area, years ago, was really redneck," he told WTAE-TV Pittsburgh.

Murtha, a Democrat, apologized last week for calling the area "racist," but challenger Bill Russell said it was a reckless insult to the people in his district and the "cheapest of cheap shots."

Russell, an Iraq war veteran, swiftly put out a 30-second Web video on Murtha's quote and plastered his Web site with references to it, using it as a fundraising pitch with 19 days to go until the Nov. 4 election.

"It shows once again how much he has lost touch with our constituents," Russell told FOXNews.com on Thursday. "A lot of people are ticked off. It's just one more issue that is ticking off a lot of our constituents and why so many of them feel it is time for a change."

Murtha has held his seat for 17 terms, and Democrats outnumber Republicans by two-to-one in the state's 12th District -- but Russell, a first-time candidate, said the latest development should give him a boost.

Russell, a 28-year Army veteran who recently retired, has been railing against Murtha, also a veteran, for calling for the withdrawal of troops in Iraq and for voting for the financial bailout package.

"We're very much running a race and it may or may not have occurred to him yet," Russell said.

Russell's been almost keeping pace with Murtha on fundraising. The latest finance reports showed Murtha raised $2.1 million for the race. A Russell spokesman said the GOP campaign pulled in $1.6 million in that period.

Murtha touched off the latest firestorm when he offered the possibility that his home base could reduce Barack Obama's margin in Pennsylvania by a few points, though he still expects the Democrat to win the state.

"There is no question that western Pennsylvania is a racist area," he told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, accounting for potential Election Day poll numbers.

On Thursday, Murtha said he was sorry.

SORRY MY ASS.......................YOU BASTARD!

As Seen on FNC’s “The Live Desk” on October 20

Lawrence Eagleburger
Former Secretary of State

CO-HOST MARTHA MACCALLUM: As you look at what’s going on around the world, what do you think about the prospect of a Barack Obama presidency in the world today?

FORMER SECRETARY OF STATE LAWRENCE EAGLEBURGER: I’m scared of it. I really am. I’m frightened by it. And partly because he doesn’t know international affairs. And I’d be interested to see how Colin Powell can reconcile to his positions, that is Barack Obama’s positions on Iraq, Afghanistan and so forth. But I think the world is going to be, as Senator Biden indicated, it’s going to be tough time! And I would far rather have Senator McCain, who I know, knows foreign affairs, and knows where he’s going. I think Obama is going to be a real problem until he gets his feet on the ground, and that’s going to take some time.

20. I don’t need an excuse to not vote for Obama. How silly. I have reasons.

I can vote against Obama because he is steeped in Marxism.
I can vote against Obama because he’s ill-informed and inexperienced.
I can vote against Obama because of the prejudiced, stupid things he has said.
I can vote against Obama because I think Joe Biden is a clown of the first water.
I can vote against Obama because of Rev. Wright and Billy-Bomb Ayers.
I can vote against Obama because he’s arrogant and condescending.
I can vote against Obama because I don’t like his military proposals.
I can vote against Obama because I don’t lik his tax proposals.
I can vote against Obama because it’s my right to vote as I see fit.

21. am from Alaska and I am a proud redneck. I have no problem voting for someone black or white as long as they have the experience to do the job. I feel that Barack Obama just doesn’t have that experience. As far as Murtha is concerned, his comments are way off base. He really needs to be voted out of office.

24. Read your history TMZ - not the sanitized one. Kennedy was ambassador to England, but not ingloriously. He ran interference for the germans and indirectly the nazis, always covering his own American hide. Minimized critical information that would have impressed the serious threats the nazis posed in their concrete plans to invade England and topple a traditional "empire" and constantly minimized through official channels and disseminated fale information about the extent of the german threat to delay the entry of the US into the defense of England and Europe. In fract, he could be credited with being one of the pillars ensuring the Battle of Britain and the death and destruction it brought. Best damn Naxi in America at the time given his positoin and influence and the abuse of those.
Harvey Levin may well stop bragging about "I'm a lawyer, I'm a lawyer" and get some basic cultural and diplomatic history or go back to making fun of aging stars or bad plastic surgery - like his new waxed look - not pulled too tight, yet completely new and different. HEll, he didn't look that "clean" twenty years ago when he was hitting on cute boys he could NEVER attain at the gym in W. Hollywood.

25. One of Oprah's mentors and heroes is Nelson Mandela so wouldn't it seem logical that she continue the amazing work he has done? I also see Oprah becoming the champion of the education of women and children of countries like Afghanistan where there is a dearth of books and restrictions upon who can go to school.

26. I am not American...and after reading some of the ugliness in these posts I sure am glad I'm not. Why can't you people debate this point intelligently instead of using the race card, the religion card or the curse card! You can have your opinions and not disrespect everyone while doing it. You're a prime example of why people don't like Americans, because you SHOVE YOUR OPINIONS DOWN EVERYONE'S THROAT!!! Learn to argue intelligently without calling people ugly names and THEN you will be respected.

28. WOW! The most adult thing that I have read in these comments is the final line from #20 saying that he ... "can vote against OBAMA.... because it is his right to do so." But for the writer who wrote about OBAMA's MAMA, OBAMA's mother is decease and I am sure that she did not recieve any $$ from ANYONE commenting on this page! Certain folks in AMERICA continue to sink to new lows - RAPING SLAVES to BURNING CROSSES to LYNCHING and now SPEAKING ILL OF THE DEAD! HOW LOW CAN YOU ALL GO? Or do you just want to welcome JIM CROW back to America? Stop the madness and just take advantage of your right to VOTE for the candidate of your choice. I am so glad that the the 2 WHITE FOLKS who were in OBAMA's life were better folks than those posting on this page!!!!

OBAMA Forever!!!!!!

29. There is an "October Surprise" right before election time that should stop Barack Obama
from being POTUS (President of the United States.) Not sure if it's true but everyone needs
to go to youtube and in the search engine type Molotov Mitchell. There is a picture of
Obama (as a young boy) and his mother. It's 11 minutes long. Everyone needs to
see this and judge for themselves. It's interesting. The mainstream media has not
touched on this at all. I wonder if it's true. What would he have to hide????? Watch
it people. Get out there and vote!!!!
