Julianne Hough -- Way More Than a Stomach Ache

Julianne HoughTMZ has learned Julianne Hough will announce tomorrow the ailment that sent her to the emergency room last week was more than a stomach ache -- it's an ovarian cyst.

We're told she will have surgery to remove the cyst and that she'll have her appendix taken out at the same time (unrelated to the cyst).

No word on when the surgery will take place or if Julianne will remain on the show this season.

UPDATE: Julianne's official site now says: "Julianne Hough, Mercury Nashville recording artist and two time 'Dancing with the Stars' champion has been diagnosed with Endometriosis and will be undergoing minor surgery to remove her appendix. Hough experienced mild stomach pains last week and was taken to Cedars Sinai medical center. After consulting with her doctor, this course of treatment was recommended. Hough will address the surgery on Monday night's 'Dancing with the Stars' where she'll perform with celebrity partner Cody Linley.

Endometriosis is the development of uterine-lining tissue outside the uterus on the surfaces of organs in the pelvis or abdomen where they are not supposed to grow. It is a common medical condition found in 5-10% of women of reproductive age around the world."

33. BIG difference between PCOS and endometriosis. I have endo and have had two surgeries in the past 9 months for it (after suffering for 15 years with no diagnosis).

Endometriomas don't just go away (they have to be removed) like normal ovarian cysts and they freakin' hurt!

I wish Julianne the best and a speedy recovery and feel very, very sorry she's having this problem as it will stay with her and, more likely than not, be a recurring issue.

34. Some of your comments are just not to be believed. You just put out information out there based upon total ignorance. LAM, you must be a real idiot, so I hesitate to even address you. "Looking at her it is easy to tell her condition is not that serious..." - not even the best medical doctors in the world would diagnose someone by simply "Looking at" them through the Internet or on television, but you, with your anonymity and your keyboard, you can? My, aren't you truly amazing. And for some other nimrod to say endometriosis usually comes from women with multiple sex partners is absolutely WRONG.

I AM a medical professional and what some of you people are putting out there as fact is a bunch of garbage. This young woman has a legitimate medical issue that thousands and thousands of fine, chaste, honorable young women get. Virgins get this - it has nothing to do with sexual partners, so stop judging her.

And regardless of how she got ill anyway, stop judging her anyway. You got just a few tidbits of information here. You know nothing about her medical condition, her diagnosis, medical history or anything about her. That makes your comments all the more ignorant.

By the way, I had endometriosis when I was in my 20s, and I have had one sexual partner in all of my life - my husband.

35. Lol some of you are MORONS. I have a family of medical professionals as well as being a 20 year old VIRGIN (omg didn't know those existed anymore!?) that had endometriosis which required surgery. My deepest sympathy goes out to Juliana, I understand the pain, and I hope she recovers very quickly!

37. When I got married, in 1979,I had an ovarian cyst. During my honeymoon, I was dancing the twist, & the cyst broke. It all drained out, & I was fine~to this day.

38. suburbandrudgery and lam- my sister and I were both diagnosed with endometriosis long before we ever thought about having even one sexual partner. I spent 15 years of my life going through surgeries to relieve the pain and more importantly to make it possible for me to have children one day. Fortunately I did have a child before having a hysterectomy at age 30. Get over your anger.

39. I've had endometriosis and children. Child birth was way worse, however I would've never had my children if I hadn't gotten the procedure. Good luck Julianne.

42. Wow. And I thought all she needed to do was to take a good $hit. Guess that's why I'm not in medicine.

43. Gee... if you danced for a living....don't you think YOU would take care of the issues instead of "sucking up the pain?"
She is a healthy women and trying to keep it that way.

44. #3.........I am a senior lady that had this condition. I started treatment when I was 19. I endured
pain and 2 different surgeries until I finally had a hysterectomy at age 46. I put off surgery for so long that
my tubes were destroyed and I could not have children. My niece also had to have a hysterectomy at age
28 from this condition; it was all over her kidneys etc.........

45. Lam, you are just mad because she is a celebrity and hot, and has the ability to have them removed. You a sour note, because you choose to deal with it and fee everyone else should have too. Grow Up!!
