Hangin' Palin Off the Hook, Flamin' John Stays

Effigy-gate is dead, just a day after it began.

The couple who hung up a Sarah Palin mannequin off the side of their West Hollywood house have taken the pseudo-Sarah down, after city officials put heat on them. They'd gotten an incredible amount of attention -- and anger -- from around the world for the Halloween-themed display.

Chad Michael Morrisette tells the LA Times he decided to take down the hanging Sarah after meeting with WeHo mayor Jeffrey Prang. He's leaving up the flaming John McCain, however.

76. WHAT KIND OF DISTURBED MALICIOUS PSYCHOS WOULD DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT? I'M NO FAN OF EITHER PARTY, BUT THIS IS JUST SICK

BOTH DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS HAVE SOLD YOU OUT AND THEY WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO. DON'T FORGET IT.

77. I did a little digging and here is the difference:
If the effigy is hanged on public property, then someone can be charged with a crime such as criminal mischief. In the case of the students at George Fox University in Oregon, the kids were suspended and were ordered, by the school, to perform community service in order to reinstate themselves at that school - NO FEDERAL, STATE, OR LOCAL CHARGES WERE EVER FILED.
In the cases in Ohio and Florida, because they were on private property, NO CHARGES WERE FILED BY ANYONE. It was just that the neighbors were upset and called police.
So, all of you who think it was SO UNFAIR...if Palin had been hanging in a public place, then there would be trouble. However, an Obama OR Palin effigy hanging on your own private property does not break the law - it just makes you look like an idiot.

78. Go Go Obama Jeep, however the FBI could choose to open an investigation (Hate Crime) and could even classify this (Palin effigy) as domestic terrorism. They won't. They are actually restricted by federal statues when it comes to gender. The domestic terrorism could come into play because of her being a government official.

But, they could (don’t have to) investigate every single Obama effigy as a Hate Crime (race) if a complaint is filed, they are asked by state/local law enforcement or it is brought to their attention through media reporting.

In 2008, you would think our laws would protect everyone equally.

79. This was a shameful display. As a supporter of Governor Palin's this made me feel sick, and I was sickened even more when my children saw it on the evening news. I am thankful the young men took it down.

80. I guess this another example of the tolerance of liberal thinkers. Isn't that the word I always hear...tolerance?

81. What happened to Palin was horrible. It was tacky and hateful. To hang the likeness of ANYONE should not be tolerated and should be considered a threat and handled appropriately. And to those claiming this has never happened to Obama, several months ago in New York a so-called "artist" featured his artwork which consisted of the likeness of Obama, nooses and other racist depictions. The most they did to the "artist" was make him take down his artwork. Just as the most they did to these fools was make them take down the mannequin. I would also like to add these instances happen more-so to Obama than to Palin. Does not make either situation right, but those are the facts.

I guess you have not seen that a majority of liberals considered this very inappropriate. It's not nice to generalize.

83. Hmmm...I find the excellent grammar that seems to be so prevalent among you Obamanauts highly amusing...

Posted at 4:03AM on Oct 31st 2008 by Ashley

Who people choose to support has no bearing on how good their grammar is. If I didn't have a life, I could review every single post and find several discrepancies in McCain supporters grammar as well. For instance, the one on the first page who cannot even spell "McCain".

84. People who have opposing political opinions is the fire that has helped make our country GREAT! People like this nut case who would simulate the murder of another human being is F---ed-up! the only difference between him and a Jeffrey Dommer is that he probably doesn't have human heads in his fridge. If this freak were living in Iran (that tiny country that's not a treat to our safety) and pulled a stunt like that you can bet a hanging would be forthcoming and it wouldn't be pretty. He's lucky he lives in a free nation.

86. No matter who you're voting for, I think we can all agree that this was WRONG. I think Palin is a twit and a half, but to hang a dummy of someone...ANYONE....is disgusting and juvenile. Also, the comments about it being a hate crime if Obama was hung have nothing to do with the democratic party. Are you insinuating that the Republican party wouldn't find anything wrong with hanging a black mannequin, no matter who it represented?

87. This morning a friend of mine, who works in at a mortgage company, forwarded me two pictures that had been circulating around the office. Apparently, the rich white guys in the office were getting quite a kick out of the pictures. My friend was not amused and sent me a note that read - "What a bunch of a$$holes." I agree.
#1. A picture of Obama's campaign plane with the words "Watermelon One" and Arabic writing, a monkey in front eating watermelon, and Obama himself on the tail eating watermelon.
#2. "Obama's Victory Party" is the caption. It depicts a black man, passed out on a sidewalk surrounded by a large bottle of alcohol, several pieces of watermelon, and an empty bucket of KFC.

For those of you who are so outraged by the Palin hanging, this is the kind of stuff that goes around about Obama thousand of times, everyday. I agree that people have a right to their opinion, but they are all jerks. Obama, being a black man, has taken so many racist shots all over this country. I have heard of only one involving Palin.

I hope Obama taxes those rich, white guys until it hurts - pigs...

88. HOW STUPID CAN THIS MAN BE. REMINDS ME OF THE KKK BURING CROSSES IN PEOPLES YARDS. DOES HE HAVE A BRAIN OR WHAT????? MAYBE THE FBI NEEDS TO TALK TO HIM.

89. Has racism in America really come to this after everything we've been through together? I mean it's not just whites hating blacks but it's blacks hating whites and everybody generally hating everybody. Is this what America is about? Division amongst it's people?
Whites if you really can't stand black people maybe you should move somewhere where there aren't any. Blacks if you can't stand white people maybe you....lol...actually you guys are screwed. Sorry. Seriously though we're the big melting pot! Remember?? Blacks have died for this country just as honorably as white people. Sure they've gotten the shaft a few times in our making of this country but hey, you can't make an omelett without breaking a few eggs. Right? Slavery sucked I admit it but don't blame me cause I never owned a slave and neither did my father OR his father. No, an apology isn't on it's way. We, as a country, got over 9/11 pretty quickly I'm sad to say. So why are we still holding onto these racial barriers?
