Palin in "Out of the Closet" Controversy

10/30/2008 6:24 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Governor Sarah Palin's "Aw shucks, I shop at thrift stores" admission cost her favorite Alaska shop something kinda important -- its name.
Sarah Palin, Out of the Closet
Out of the Closet is the name of the consignment shop Palin frequents back in Anchorage. It also happens to be the name of a chain of non-profit stores in California and Florida run by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF). It's proceeds go toward HIV medical care, testing and prevention service, among other things.

When the AHF heard about the Alaska version via all the Palin hype, they sent over a cease and desist letter asking them to change their name. TMZ talked to Ellen Arvold, who owns the shop. She admits she's a little bummed, but plans on complying and changing the name of her store.

just some facts to get in the way

For all of you qouting the NEW YORKER which lets just say is a "LITTLE" biased for OBAMA!! Is this the qoute from Sarah Palin? I took it word for word from their website.

'A few weeks before she was nominated for Vice-President, she told a visiting journalist—Philip Gourevitch, of this magazine—that “we’re set up, unlike other states in the union, where it’s collectively Alaskans own the resources. So we share in the wealth when the development of these resources occurs."

This is what I take from it PLEASE comment on what your take on it is......

(it’s collectively Alaskans own the resources) She is saying that "THEY" (meaning the Alaskans) "OWN" (meaning, belongs to THEM) the resources. So If I am understanding her its THEIRS.

(So we share in the wealth when the development of these resources occurs.") "WE" (meaning the Alsakans) "share in the wealth" (meaning takes parts of). Alska makes money and or is used they get a part in this "wealth"

Now I see you are absolutly right. She is a Socialist just like Obama. He wants to take whats your and share YOUR wealth with those less fortunate. "SO THEY GET THEIRS" and she wants to take what is already "THEIRS" and share with the people it belongs to..

COME ON GET A LIFE NICE TRY!!!!! Only if you gave this much energy in looking at the words Obama is spouting.

"Rashid Khalidi and Obama sitting in a tree..."

Oh really. Read this if you have the attention span and vocabulary:

"During the 1990s, while he served as chairman of the International Republican Institute (IRI), McCain distributed several grants to the Palestinian research center co-founded by Khalidi, including one worth half a million dollars.

A 1998 tax filing for the McCain-led group shows a $448,873 grant to Khalidi's Center for Palestine Research and Studies for work in the West Bank. (See grant number 5180, "West Bank: CPRS" on page 14 of this PDF.)

The relationship extends back as far as 1993, when John McCain joined IRI as chairman in January. Foreign Affairs noted in September of that year that IRI had helped fund several extensive studies in Palestine run by Khalidi's group, including over 30 public opinion polls and a study of "sociopolitical attitudes."

So uh yeah... you were saying?

I did not vote for Obama or McCain.........neither represents me, but I do
resent the consistent slams against Palin
The GOP bought her $$$ wardrobe
They called the consignment not long ago on air and asked the owner who said
she comes in regularly to buy things for herself and her daughter.
They sell all sorts of stuff including high cost stuff that apparently women have
purchased in cities outside of Alaska where there are expensive shops.
And speaking of Palin, when they showed the Obama dummy hanging
in a tree somewhere on a campus back east it was catastrophic,
but the Palin hanging never made it
to the same media......I guess it is disgusting to hang Obama but perfectly
OK for Palin to be hung by the neck?????
THIS is why I have so little respect any longer for any of the political schtick......

It ALL stinks to high heaven

who has the facts? ME

Here is the difference in the two candidates:
Obama has a plan...it is NOT a socialist plan as the right-wing nut jobs would have you believe, it's fairly simple. Obama believes that wealth grows from the bottom up and therefore will raise the taxes on the top 5% of this country's wealthy folks. Obama will return the tax rates for the wealthy back to where they were in Clinton's presidency and give a tax cut to those of us 92% in the "middle class." He will also make sure that everyone who wants a college education can get one - in return for community or military service, you will get college tuition money.
McCain wants to give more tax breaks to the wealthy folks and big corporations. Did you see that Exxon/Mobil made record profits of almost 15 BILLION dollars recently?? That is what the republicans do. It is a fact that under Bill Clinton the middle class grew and poor people were able to pull themselves up. During Clinton's presidency, we grew 22 million new jobs, under Bush we lost 8 million jobs. Under Bush (and McCain's plan) the middle class has shrunk as more of us slip into poverty. They believe that wealth will "trickle down" to the rest of us - and it doesn't work.
This is why Obama discusses his plan every chance he gets. He doesn't get down in the mud with McCain and Palin. And also why McCain's only plan (besides the Bush plan) is to is to bash Obama - isn't it clear that if you have no plan, your only plan is to bash the other guy?? For every Ayres, Rezco, and Wright, McCain and Palin have their own Muthee, Haggee, Parsley, Keating, and Liddy. You don't hear much about McCain and Palin's closet friends, because Obama is too classy to get in the mud and he believes that the American people want to talk issues, not nonsense.

I am by no means rich - definitely considered middle class . The capital gains tax will definitely hurt me & my savings I have worked hard for. Also, people like to cite the shrinking of the middle-class, their viewpoint is skewed because at the same time the upper-class is growing which leads many to believe that alot of the middle-class are not necessarily moving down, but many are moving up. I see it every day in the affluent neighborhood where I live. Young couples who are moving out of the "middle-class" & into the "upper-class because of hard work & intelligence. I am glad for them. I think people should be rewarded for their efforts. It's a case of "glass half-full" vs. "glass half-empty". Some people will always see that glass as "half-empty" because they just don't have what it takes to "make it big" & they are envious of those who do. These are the people who want SOMEONE ELSE to "make it big" for them - ergo their government. It doesn't work.

John & Sarah, makes you scared doesn't it? Knowing there are people like this "out there" sure scares me. The truth is that these creatures DO vote. We can only hope that anyone this evil will destroy themselves before they hurt someone else.

romil 1 - Obama will NOT tax your capital gains if you make under $200,00 a year. I have read it several times and he has spoken about it several times, and it was even on the infomercial last night.
And as for those young couples moving into the high end neighborhoods? Those are the ones who, many of them are now in foreclosure because they were given loans by the shady mortages companies who told them they could afford a $400,000 house when they only made $75,000 a year. Come to my neighborhood - tons of houses in foreclosure - and nice ones at that. There are also tons of young couples out there who have $50,000 or more in credit card debt - they don't pay their bills, they float them on plastic because they were not taught how to stick to a budget like my generation was. They all live way beyond their means. They may LOOK like they are moving up, but they are not really... and one day t will all crash down on them, just like it did on Wall Street.

Just another example of how unethical Pallin is. How many ethics charges can one candidate rack up in a single election? I think she holds the title, and add that to the ethics charges McCain has had, and the two clearly are the champs. WAKE UP AMERICA, IT IS A PATTERN OF BEHAVIOR!! America has a chance to get turned around and going in the right direction if people would only wake up and smell the coffee. If the last 8 yrs and certainly the last month don't prove what happens with Republican administrations, then nothing will. There are none so blind as those that will not see. That is the only way W got elected, don't make the same mistake again, as the same people that bought the election for him, have bought and paid for McCain, so it will be more of the same, and there will be no more middle class.

It's just Sarah Palin's personality to throw people under the bus. Look how she's destroyed McCain's campaign, used Alaska taxpayers money for personal travel, spent $50,000 redecorating the Mayor;s office and when she was told she couldn't do it by the City Council Palin told them to take her to court, lies about Obama and stirs up racism, fired a guy because he wouldn't fire her ex brother-in-law, spent $150,000 on designer clothing including $22,000 for makeup paid for by donors to the John McCain campaign, doesn't believe in sex education even after her teenage daughter got pregnant and the boyfriend forced to drop out of school and get a job, shoots innocent wild animals from a helicopter, and sued the Federal Govt for trying to put the Polar Bear on the endangered species list. What a nice woman... not.

I'm not saying she's totally inept, but definetely not intelligent enough to be a VP - and what scares me MOST is her arrogance. She is a MEAN woman who supposedly is a Christian. Are all Christians really that mean and obnoxious??
She is very annoying...

Are you serious?!?!

Get over yourselves, Out of the Closet (AIDS Foundation).

Out of the Closet (Alaska) is a one-woman-owed upscale resale boutique in downtown Anchorage. You're really going to waste your time and money to harass her? Take your thrift store and good riddance.

Karma.

I don't fault the AHF at all. I've shopped at consignment shops for years. I wonder if Sarch asked a consignment shop to decorate her mayor's office using Wasilla budget funds -- not once, but twice.

When I heard Palin remark that the reason she didn’t give good answers to Couric was that she was annoyed, I almost fell off of my chair. Did the world just turn flat? She couldn’t answer Katie’s questions any more than she could answer questions at the VP debate. She is so uninformed when it comes to important, critical issues, it’s mind-boggling. Can you see this woman sitting at the same table with world leaders?

The media has been easy on Palin – especially recently. We have friends that live in Juneau; one of them has a family member in the state legislature. Palin’s 18-month stint as governor of Alaska would shock voters in the lower-48. Palin’s been no-show at important legislative meetings; and has angered a number of mayors and other state officials for ignoring them. A lot of people haven’t even met her yet. She takes credit for ideas that aren’t hers, and has appointed friends to positions they aren’t remotely qualified for. She is often unreachable, isolates herself, with a tight circle of associates to help her with issues she doesn’t understand. But she’s a very energetic, savvy politician when it comes to giving speeches and appearances; she hates serious interviews because she can’t control the questions. This is a state of 700,000 people, and she’s obviously in over her head. Our friends said that if people knew half the bull Palin has been posturing about since the RNC convention, McCain’s campaign would have been toast weeks ago. In Alaska, her popularity dropped 20 percentage points in the last 8 weeks.

Palin isn’t remotely qualified for the VP-presidential slot. This probably explains why the Pulitzer Prize winning Anchorage Daily News -- the largest and the most prestigious newspaper in the state of Alaska – endorsed Obama.

And just one more fact: The indivdual working on the McCain campaign stated, specifically, that she didn't care at all where the clothes came from. Why? Because she didn't have to pay for them with her own money. This nonsense about "their not ny cothes" is just not true. Had this not become news, she would have taken them back to Alaska in a heartbeat; and that includes the designer bag that was given to her young daughter.

It's a thrift store in Alaska. A letter had to be written about the name? Google names of companies and you'll find many that are the same. People need to be concerned more about what they are doing (helping people with AIDS/HIV) then with names of thrift stores. So what if you have the same name. Who cares?

McCain/Palin ....lesser of two evils.
