Here's what went down. Kelly Ripa told a story on Monday about how one of her 37 kids was learning about government and said the elephant represented the Republicans and the donkey represented the Dominicans. Regis then quipped, "She's pretty close." Ay, caramba!
A Dominican-American group is demanding an apology from the show, claiming "host Regis Philbin practically agreed with laughter over what the two thought was a joke."
Dominican-American and Latino leaders will stage a protest outside the ABC studios tomorrow in NYC where the show airs.
Tomato, tomahto, Democrat, Dominican -- let's call the whole thing off!

I am writing to express my displeasure about Kelly's so called joke about someone confusing The Donkey of the democrats with "Dominicans". It was a corny joke first of all and one with bad taste. Kelly and her writers should know better than that. It sounds to me like there is some kind of racism in that corny punchline. I am a 25 year old Dominican-American college student and I will say that the joke was very disrespectful. I believe that a public apology on the show should be made and the "air" should be cleared so this cannot happen in the future. Dominicans are much more than baseball players and drug dealers. We have accomplished actors, authors, fashion designers and so forth

The other day my 4 year old godson did the cutest thing. We were on the train and he was eating his ritz crackers. He actually went up to a white person and said "Hi, do you want a cracker?". It was so adorable. Take it however you want. Yea it was corny and it was right in the realm of what Kelly did. She should have known it may be taken in bad taste. So she shouldnt have risked it. I know I wouldnt have. This video clip was posted on a very popular blog seen by dominicans here in the USA and all over the island. I'm very sure that no one took it lightly.
