Protest Over Ass Comment on "Regis and Kelly"

A donkey might be a good symbol for the Democratic Party, but that doesn't mean Dominicans want to be compared to one on national TV.
Play video
Here's what went down. Kelly Ripa told a story on Monday about how one of her 37 kids was learning about government and said the elephant represented the Republicans and the donkey represented the Dominicans. Regis then quipped, "She's pretty close." Ay, caramba!

A Dominican-American group is demanding an apology from the show, claiming "host Regis Philbin practically agreed with laughter over what the two thought was a joke."

Dominican-American and Latino leaders will stage a protest outside the ABC studios tomorrow in NYC where the show airs.

Tomato, tomahto, Democrat, Dominican -- let's call the whole thing off!

80. Get over it people!!! There were racial overtones in what Regis said. To the Dominican-American community grow some thicker skin. How about protesting over immigration laws; the risk Dominicans take coming to the US by way of PR.

81. Why would Regis make fun of an order of nuns? Isn't he Catholic?

82. Man, you can't say anything these day's without people having to be so serious.
They are good people, and if people really have to pick on them for this , and for

87. I thought Dominicans meant the Roman Catholic Order--Regis is Catholic so I thought it was humerous. Maybe he had Dominican nuns for teachers. Oh well.

88. I swear people must just sit around thinking of things to be offended by.

I don't think it's racist either. Most people are sick off all protesters, regardless of race!

89. Matt,
I didn’t mean any harm It’s just a lot of anger that comes out when some white folks say something’s and then acted like it doesn’t matter. In this election it shows look at all the racist people that attended John McCain 's rallies and got on national TV and stated what they thought Obama was or the reason they weren’t going to vote for a black man. We are a hurt nation and hurt people, hurt people. You see it all the time when someone’s hurting they sometimes lash out. It’s not right and there’s no justification for it. I just stated what some of the African American’s really want to say that you hear at the kitchen table. My grandmother went thought the ringer with white folks she is a Irish woman and decided to marry the man she fell in love with a black man and for that she was hated and even received death threats on her life. And as for your comment I’m not educated I am earning my nursing degree fourth generation and I am very proud. My mother, aunts, sisters, and my grandmother all have nursing degrees and have paved the way for me to be able to attend nursing school. I know this is a new day and generation but we still have a lot of work to do as a nation. Let keep it moving and build a fearless nation in unity. I am a biracial human bean and I got hurt by both sides. I was made to feel like I wasn’t Black enough by the black girls because my hair is straight and long and I have light skin and on the other hand I wasn’t white enough for the white girls. So no matter what you say when it come to this nation it is about race. We teach our children to hate directly or indirectly by what we say when no one’s looking and when we’re behinds close doors. It need to stop because children are being hurt every day on the play grounds. We need to pay attention and strengthen this generation to be leaders not failures. And every race has gangs the KKK is one of them, they just didn’t get there punishment but they murdered people and they aren’t in prison. That was a wakeup call to show some white people don’t like it when racist remarks and accusations are directed at them. Love, peace and harmony to all in our nation that’s trying to change and make it better. GOD BLESS US All.
