Celebrity Justice
Mackenzie Phillips - Diverted

An L.A. judge has just made Mackenzie Phillips' day.
Mackenzie Phillips: Click to watch
Mackenzie was ordered into a drug diversion program after pleading guilty to a felony drug charge, specifically cocaine. You'll recall Phillips was busted at LAX last August after baggies and balloons of coke and heroin fell down her pant leg at security.

Phillips was in court with her miracle lawyer, Blair Berk. The guilty plea will be dismissed when Mackenzie completes the diversion program. Once that happens the whole incident will be wiped from her record. Phillips addressed the court, saying, "I want to thank the Los Angeles Police Department and the Airport Police for stopping me -- they saved my life."

At one point during the proceedings, the D.A. turned to Mackenzie and asked her if she had appeared on "Diff'rent Strokes," she humbly told him it was actually "One Day at a Time."

The other charges against Phillips were dismissed.

After the bust, Phillips checked herself into rehab -- her 10th stint. This time there's a lot of hope. She looked great today in court. Here's wishin' ...

16. BabyMomma, the judge isn't "dumb" for not knowing what show she was on. It was almost 30 years ago. And even then, not everyone watched that show. There are a lot of shows from 1980 that I don't remember either.

19. Mac has lived in a world full of gorgeous women. A lot of them in her own house. The underlying reason for her relapses is not so much a chemical thing but a psychological one. She has always felt like she was the "Ugly Duckling" and never had the life of those ethereally beautiful around her. Even though her dad accepted her, doted on her, loved her and acknowledged her presence, he might not have told her enough that she was "pretty" the way he told other girls of her peer group in her presence.

I also believe Mac doesn't see an attractive person when she looks in the mirror. Her inner voice is hypercritical. She needs to cease and desist! Easy to say but hard to do.

Here's hoping that Mac realizes that "beauty" comes packaged in all sorts of ways. I hope she realizes her interior castle is one of depth and substance. Good luck Mac!

20. Sometimes it takes a lot of rehab stints before one "sticks". God bless you, Mackenzie, here's hoping this is the time that sticks!

22. 1. And how many rehab/diversion programs does this make for her now?

Ummm, Sad, I believe it states clearly in the story: "After the bust, Phillips checked herself into rehab -- her 10th stint."

If you are writing in just to be a smarty-pants, at least have a valid point, and one that you can state with some clarity and intelligence.

24. Sure, she has been to rehab alot of times but this I believe is her first arrest. That makes a big difference. God Bless her and I hope this time it works. I have been clean for going on 10 years and it took alot of tries to get clean and stay that way.

25. You people aren't really stupid enough to believe Phillips is going to turn her life around for good THIS time are you? I know most people are naive in generally, but really, give me a freakin' break from that laughable hope.

26. Maybe lucky number 11 is the charm. If McK doesn't ditch her enablers she do 12, 13, 14 etc. till it kills her. An wise sage once said "When you crap your pants it is not enough to just change underwear; you gotta wash the crap off your body." So far it looks like all McK has done is change underwear.

28. We have two unequal systems of justice in America and this is another prime example. This Hollywood has been celebrity gets arrested with heroin, cocaine and seringes, then is sentenced to to nothing, not even community servive, not even a criminal record. This is her 10th time in a fancy, country club, drug abuse rehab center for celebrities, which obviously failed in the past. If it was a common Black person caught with the same drugs and paraphenalia getting arrested, they would have been convicted of Felony possession for sales and sent to State Prison for at least a year or more. This unequal treatment and sentencing based on social status must not be tolerated in America.

29. 6. I wonder how many non-celebs would get their record wiped clean if they went to rehab?

Posted at 2:26PM on Oct 31st 2008 by mary

Ok, and here is a valid answer to you, Mary, dear. Actually, many, many non-celebs have their arrests removed if they complete rehab - the deal Mckenzie got. That deal is made with people every day.

Folks, look. When I make a comment here, I look at all angles of what I am going to say, because I don't want to put my comment out there only to have someone blast holes in it because I was too stupid to consider it carefully before I opened my big mouth.

Mary, this is, in no way, all directed at you. I am speaking now to the public, in general.

I could make a living (if someone would pay me) rebutting comments that you people post on here that are asinine and hardly thought through. Most of my comments on TMZ do just that - drive trucks through the holes in your logic or ridiculous comments that you have not fully considered.

C'mon people. Think before you write. Your opinions will be taken much more seriously if do. As it is, your thoughts are easily dismissed because of the holes in your logic or the lack of fully considering your point.

I believe in you. You ARE intelligent. You simply must think before you write. C'mon, you can do it.

30. Makenzie has had this monkey on her back for many many years. She continues the battle with it, and I am suprised she hasn't died from it yet. For your own sake girl, I pray to God you kick it with this round of Diversion. However, It angers me that you get a clean slate after you complete it and us common folk live with that skeleton hanging out for the world to see. Everyone else has to go on with the shame, but not you. You should be as vunerable as the rest of us .IMHO-Suzanne
