Murder Weapon in Hudson Murder ID'd

Chicago cops have confirmed -- the gun found last Wednesday is the same one used to murder three members of Jenifer Hudson's family.

Police found a .45 caliber Sig-Sauer semiautomatic pistol a block from where a vehicle was part containing the body of Jenifer's 7-year-old nephew Julian King. Cops knew almost immediately the gun was a match because of unfired bullets synced up with the casings found at the murder scene.

Police also are investigating whether the weapon may have once belonged to Jason Hudson.

The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives determined the weapon was originally owned by someone in Michigan who had reported it stolen. Investigators now need to follow the path of the gun that takes them to Chicago.

William Balfour, 27, the estranged husband of the boy's mother, Julia Hudson, was brought in for questioning Friday night. Police searched his girlfriend's house, located about 2.5 miles from where the SUV was found, after taking Balfour into custody.

47. shocked22: That's about as credible as saying martians did it, and with as much evidence.

48. It is clear that William Balfour has a hand in the events at hand, and it is none too clear that sister Julia was involved. She more than likely was not.

Look at the evidence that has been released, and then take your time to connect the dots.

If Julia was guilty of anything, it was misplaced love, and that is not an unusual thing, especially when pickings are slim...

William Balfour, in a fit of unmitigated rage -- probably over something very petty -- managed to make his way over to that house, knocked angrily on the door, and when J. Hudson's brother yelled "Who is it?" Balfour shot through the door.

The door then opened, probably by Balfour, who then shot J. Hudson's mother who, in shock, came to protect her son and household. The brother was then ordered up the stairs in order to get the car keys, and was shot, maybe again, after handing them over.

The innocent child was ordered to get in the brother's vehicle, and we all know what happened, in part, thereafter...

49. Oh, I knew there was another point I wanted to make:

Didn't anyone notice from the close-up of the FRONT DOOR? ((((HELLO))))) you needed to have a KEY AND # CODE to get in the house.

One would think that the code had been changed once william balfour was thrown out of the house, no. If someone were shooting at me from the other side of the door, I WOULDN'T OPEN IT!!!!!

So, that's another question that needs to be answered: HOW DID THE KILLER(S) GET IN THE HOUSE?

50. To OldWiseOne

If your story was correct, the blood splatter evidence would have told the story on day one and the case would be solved.

Nice try though.

51. The more I read of different news stories and other posters opinions I am starting to think that Julia has so much more to do with this than I thought before. I still think William killed those three family members.Julia is involved in some way I just don't know how. If someone had told me my child was dead I would want to see with my own eyes I think every mother would not believe it until they see it .How could Julia not want to see for her self???

52. To elaborate OldWise One, If William shot through the door, the shot would have had HIT Jason, because if he missed, Jason would have just run. If Jason was not hit, also he would not stand by and let Willam shoot his mom.

He would have had to have been hit through the door according to your scenario. If he's hit, he'd bleed all the way upstairs. Also there'd be tones of bloody footprints.

Find the shoes that match the bloody prints. Bing, bang, bong, case solved.

53. Did everyone forgot that William has a brother, maybe he helped him out by driving William's car or the suv that Julian was found in. William's mother asked the brother which one of William's girlfriends house he was at. How would the brother know where William was, he must of spoke to or been with him that day. I haven't heard one person mention William's brother, so maybe Julia, William and William's brother all had a hand in this tragedy, or maybe it was just William and his brother. Just thought I'd add my 2 cents.

54. Hey nkg,

The blood splatter evidence does indeed tell most of the tale of 'what' was done, but in this case it does not tell 'who' did what was done, Furthermore, this type of specific evidence has not been released as of yet, but it will be soon enough.

My point is simple: while many have attempted to blame Julia, none of the evidence logically points in her direction.

Balfour shall end up being the star of this show, and what hurts him the most about all this was his self imposed necessity to make poor, frightened Julian witness those deaths, and then make him lie down in the back of the vehicle and, eventually, pull that trigger, twice. Balfour regrets this part of the deal, and he drove around to summon the wherewithal to pull that trigger.

But, in the end, that is exactly what his gangster mind told him had to be done...

The blood splatter evidence, when released, will tell the tell I am telling here.

55. i think james peyton jennifers hudson ex might have something to do with it. ;last month he,jason got into a physical altercation with william. over car payments. last yr jennifer was supposedly to marry james after she struck it big. they promised to marry. i think after she broke her promise to james after being in a relationship with him for over 8 yrs. when she got engaged to david otunga i think that infuriated james. maybe he was trying to win her back over. think about it. why is james still in the picture?

56. james peyton refused to marry jennifer till she has money. if jennifer had a pre nup do u think he would still marry her? i bet it was like a slap in the face with all the love and time he put into that relationship and she called it quits. he probably wanted to be mr. jennifer hudson. i bet u he couldnt wait to get out of the ghetto and blow all her money

57. @ a

You know, a girlfriend of mines in Atlanta, GA thought the VERY same thing. 8 years is a long time to be with someone. You only add insult to injury by getting engaged to someone whom you've only dated for, what... 1-2 months.

@ oldwiseone

I might not remember All of the SEVEN DEADLY SINS, but I do know that JEALOUSY is one of them. Julia, I believe might / could be very jealous of Jennifer's success.

58. @ Betty Boop

Yes, I agree whole-heartedly. I would have to identify the body for myself, I wouldn't send another family member to do it for me.

59. William's brother and Jennifer's ex are excellent suspects. A new twist is added. Good job men. See you back at the precinct.

lol.

Seriously though. good work.

60. From the Chicago Tribune tonight:

Gun in family slayings may have been brother's

Forensic testing determined that the chrome-and-black .45-caliber pistol recovered by Chicago police was the weapon used to kill Jennifer Hudson's mother, brother and nephew, a law-enforcement source said Friday.

The gun, discovered Wednesday a block from where 7-year-old Julian King's body was found, was being tested in the hope of finding evidence that would tie the killings to a suspect, police said.

Police also are investigating whether the weapon had once belonged to Hudson's slain brother, Jason. He allegedly owned an identical gun that he thought was stolen from the family's Englewood home a few months ago, according to law-enforcement sources and several neighbors.

The .45-caliber Sig Sauer semiautomatic pistol was recovered in the bushes of a vacant lot on the West Side, a block from where the nephew's body was found Monday in an SUV.

Police immediately suspected it was the gun used in the killings because the unfired bullets matched the make and model of shell casings found at the Hudson family home, where the two other victims were slain, sources said.

William Balfour, the estranged husband of Hudson's sister Julia, remains in custody after being questioned in the case, but he has not been charged in the slayings.

The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives had traced the recovered gun to its original owner in Michigan, who reported it stolen, sources said.

While police have investigated the slayings as possible domestic violence, they have not ruled out other motives.

Jason Hudson was shot in the leg several months ago in Gary but refused to seek medical attention, friends and family members said. The wound limited his mobility and forced him to use a cane to walk.

"He had a troubled path," said his second cousin Joe Buckner. "He was trying to get his life figured out."
