Attempted Sabotage Foiled in Florida!

So, check this out. Deerfield Beach, Fla. is one hour south of Palm Beach. Nearly 400 people were planted firmly in line at 6:15 this morning, waiting for the polls to open at 7:00 AM. There is one voting machine to accommodate all of them.

The area almost entirely African American. Many of the people never have voted before. One woman was 101 years old. She was wheeled into the polling place and on her way out she said that before she died, she wanted to vote for a black man.

Election monitors noticed a man in line who appeared to be a voter. Turns out he was a saboteur, telling people the Democrats were supposed to vote at a different location.

Some of the voters said they were robocalled last night. The message -- Democrats weren't supposed to vote until Wednesday.

UPDATE -- Election officials just delivered seven more voting machines.

211. 205. Im sorry but WHITE AMERICA is VERY IGNORANT and HYPOCRITICAL.....It kills some of you to see a BI-RACIAL MAN RUN FOR AND POSSIBLYT BECOME THE NEXT PRESIDENT. THIS STORY IS THE SAME BULLSH*T THAT ALLOWED bush TO BECOME PRESIDENT.....YOU WHITES ARE GOOD FOR ONE THING>>>>>STEALING.....

FloridaGirl:
There are so many things wrong with what you just said. First, white America has the highest education rate of all the demographics, so on a whole, we are far from ignorant. I am personally very excited to see a black man running for president, and a woman running for VP, but sadly, neither are up to snuff. And I don't recall John Kerry or Ralph Nader being bi-racial, so I'm not sure how this is the same story that got Bush elected. As an independent, I was ready to vote for Obama until his "spread the wealth" speech. My family and I work very hard for our "wealth" and I do not believe that my money should be taken from me and given to someone who does not work as hard. People with little money usually get that way because of choices they make--having children at a young age, not going to college, drugs, poor budgeting/spending habits, etc. Why should I be punished for being responsible? As far as I'm concerned, Obama's plan is the very definition of STEALING.

212. I firmly believe that those who do not lead productive lives and collect welfare should not be allowed to vote. Nor should they be allowed to breed.

213. Most african americans are democrats so how did you think they'd vote? All races are voting for Obama anyways. duh.

Poster #185. Yes Obama is bi-racial and they call him African-American because racist people in your country have considered them black if they have any black blood in them. I say, embrace both sides of your ethnicity equally. Nobody can tell you who the hell you are.

214. Hmmm.

Sounds like a setup. Some Democrat trying to create a news item to get people excited.

If it were a republican, they would have been arrested.

Anyway, most of the people stupid enough to fall for that sort of thing voted early for Obama. (obviously not the people in line).

Most all the special ed people voted for Obama.

215. 1 polling machine????? that is insane? is this the case in the US? I am in Quebec Canada and in each of our polling stations, and we have alot! there are at least 10 different polling booths. I have never EVER waited more than 1 minute to vote! The problem is no one will change this for the better because it may benefit the loser one day!!! People are greedy and disgusting!!! Kudos to that woman who is 101. Racist??? she is not racist, you idiot! Barack Obama is black, give me a break you bleeding hearts. even if he was lighter skinned, you would all still consider him black! I HOPE HE WINS!!!!!!!!!!! (fyi italian and caucasian...yeah, we think more than we judge up here in Canada)

216. It speaks volumes about the usual apathy towards voting in that area. Machines are assigned/designated on historical voting patterns.

That "trick" is and old one, and definitely not right. But then again, there is plenty that has not been right about this election process. Acorn ring a bell with anyone?

217. This is mainly for Pay Attention!!! You should pay close attention and be careful of the things you say. It's a blessing to live to be 101!!! And I can only imagine what she had to go through in her life during that despicable, horrible unforgetable time in the early 1900's, that is still more prevalent than I'd like to admit. But that's the problem, no one has any respect for others and not even our elderly. I am a person that at least listens to both sides and would consider voting Republican if only I could find one that didn't seem so much like a greedy, coniving, will say or do anything to get what you want liar!!! Gosh!!! It's going to be difficult for either man that get into office and hopefully they'll be able to do at least half of what they promised considering what they're walking into. I loved seeing the DIVERSITY at Obama's rally's and could hardly stand to look at McCain's because he was unable to draw that same crowd. HHHHMMMM I wonder why? Maybe they like it like that. You guys better calm down because you know with the stupid stuff you're saying some nut will really try to act on it. But then again, you probably wouldn't care!!! Obama has a family just everybody else. A beautiful one at that. Everybody loves somebody.

218. Yeah, you hate whites so much so stop moving into our towns. Anway a President cannot come to your aid when you are being arrested, so typical of them to think this already starting to think about criminal acts.

219. What a bunch of racists. You people are disgusting. The Katrina comment! Come on! You are the kind of people who shouldn't be allowed to vote. I have voted in every election since 1991, but I had trouble with the new machines this year. There were no instructions at all. I am highly computer literate, but these machines had no instructions at all. You can not read instructions which are not there. By the way, Bush already destroyed the U.S. constitution in every way of which you accuse Obama. Have you read the Patriot Act or heard of Guantanamo? It seems like every fringe racist idiot in America has jumped on John McCain's bandwagon. You are the racists! Have any of you ever listened to an Obama speech? Did you watch the debates? And no, I am caucasian. I know plenty about illiterate, racist, redneck, white people.

220. You know what is ironic, is that the only majority to come out and vote for Lyn Swann when he ran for Governor of Pa was the so-called racist gun lovers of Western PA. Philadelphia Blacks could not or did not care to vote for a black man then...oh, yeah, I guess because he was republican who didn't have his hand in everyone else's pocket in order to redistribute the wealth. The sense of self entitlement has reached a disastorous rate especially with the college/recent grads class. God help us all since apparently this new generation expects it all, and they expect it now...forget having to work and sacrifice like the previous generations have done. This is what I call the "I am Special" generation who got a trophy for just showing up...the new world order.

221. Howard Stern sent someone to Harlem a few days ago and asked black voters in the street who they were voting for. With each person he gave them McCAIN'S beliefs and plans on the ECONOMY and other issues and even asked if they'd be happy with Sarah PALIN as V.P. in an OBAMA ADMINISTRATION!!! They all agreed with everything said and said they were voting for OBAMAbecause they agreed with his views... LOOK IT UP ON YOUTUBE. It's TRUE!!! 96% voting because he's balck. Even when you tell them that Obama's views are McCains!
LMMFAO! Any questions??? Stupid MFs!!!!

222. Obama has won. Obama is your next president. why is that so ridiculous??? what is wrong with everyone??? this is an intelligent person who will be representing your country!! but you're right...maybe it is better to have Sara palin in office who accepts phone calls from other countries presidents, gets easily pranked and everyone has easy acces to her. What a great country you have!!! after 9/11, you would think you would have learned something. welcome to 2008! Obama is the future, Us just like other countries is a melting pot, get in the mix, you may be suprised to learn it isn't all that bad...

224. I live in a major swing state and nothing happened. Contrary to what people see on the news with the over hyped drama there are almost always cops at the polling area and a single forming line with no "wanderers" blocking the volunteers view of the booths or the people voting in them.
On another note...say goodbye to the small/medium sized business I hope no one on here works for a small company like I do because with these tax hikes we might be losing our jobs. I will see everyone here in 4 years when they ae complaining about "Obama Drama"
Futhermore, Obama wouldn't have won if it werent for him bussing people for free to the early registering and voting places. I am not saying these people didn't have the right to vote, I am saying when you take a bus to a terrible poverty ridden area with a free bus ride and promises of food they will certainly vote for him. If only McCain had the money in his campaign that Obama had we would be seeing a VERY different turn of events right now.

On last note....can these stupid out of touch celebrities PLLLEEEEAAASEEE STFU now?! It's over.

225. Um, reality check - the 101 year old woman didn't say she was voting for Obama just because he was black. She said that before she died, she wanted to vote for a black man (for President, I assume). Big difference.

This is the first time a major party has run any black man for President. She was really just saying that she finally had the opportunity to vote for a black rather than having only white choices - very significant for a country with our history. Doesn't mean that she never voted for a white or that she didn't pay attention to the issues or that she would vote for a black candidate even if she felt he was unqualified. It's just a big step forward in general for everybody when a previously excluded group begins to be included in something like the presidency.

John F. Kennedy broke a similar barrier when he ran for President in 1960 - first Catholic to be elected President of the USA. May not mean much now (nobody even blinks at the fact that Joe Biden is Catholic, for instance), but it was a big deal back then. I was about 10 years old at the time, and remember all the Protestant churches in town warning from the pulpit about the dangers of a "papist in the presidency", claiming that the Pope would rule the US if Kennedy were elected - dangers that never materialized, of course, and now nobody thinks twice about it. But Kennedy's election was a big shift for Catholics, many of them felt included at a level they hadn't been before.

Women are frequently accused of voting for a woman just because she's a woman. That accusation is really a put-down, implying that our tiny little female brains are so superficial that we couldn't possibly be rationally considering that particular woman to be well qualified for the job. But if you're a woman and all the choices on the ballot have always been men, it really is nice to finally have the chance to vote for a woman. Changes the way the world looks, means a step toward real equality, symbolizes women becoming part of the "power structure" etc. Same thing holds here for the 101-year-old voter and her desire to vote for a black man before she dies.

It's hard for people in the category that has always been on the ballot (men, whites, Protestants) to understand this feeling when the breakthrough occurs - they want to believe there is absolute symmetry and so tend to think it's "reverse racism/ sexism/ whatever". But it's not, because the situations just aren't symmetric in the first place. Try to imagine if only non-whites or only women or only non-Protestants had always been on the ballot for many generations, and then try to imagine how you would feel if a white or man or Protestant was on the ballot for the first time. You just might find your elderly self being wheeled to the polling place, telling some nosy reporter that you want to vote for a white (or man, or Protestant) before you die .... :)
