Underwood Picks a Fight with Half of Hollywood

Carrie UnderwoodThe next time you see a celebrity in a political ad, just know Carrie Underwood thinks that person is stupid.

The former "American Idol" found a soapbox, climbed on it, and proceeded to bash the hell out of all sorts of famous people like Timberlake, Stallone, Affleck and Oprah -- for their decision to publicly endorse a candidate for president.

Underwood tells TV Guide, "There is someone I do support, but I don't support publicly. I lose all respect for celebrities when they back a candidate. It's saying that the American public isn't smart enough to make their own decisions ... music is where you go to get away from all the BS."

31. #3 Republican for Obama. Although, I too, am a republican who voted for Obama. I would have to say you are wrong here. She understands free speach. She didn't say they couldn't or should be stopped from endorsing candidates. She just said it is her personal opinion that it is stupid. Let me use this example... it equates to YOU saying that SHE is ignorant. That is your opinion. You voiced it and she voiced hers.

I agree with her. I like listening to music and watching movies as a distraction from life. If a celebrity starts bothering me with all of their opinions I avoid their movies and music. Just like I avoid the people and phone calls trying to tell me who to vote for...

32. Finally! A celebrity that is right! I agree...it nauseates me to see all the celebrities putting their political views out there. I don't admire them for that very reason. I used to think that Matt Damon was a talented smart guy, but then saw his rant and now I will personally boycott any future movies he's in. Same with Tom Cruise and a bunch of other dim witted mouths. Go girl! You're great!

34. Finally--an entertainer who knows her boundaries!! Now, allow me to translate--successful entertainer does not a successfull political spokesperson make. Most of us proably wouldn't buy a ticket to a McCain or Obama concert and we don't want to hear political speeches when we spend our hard-earned, easily taxed and redistributed money to hear an artist in concert. Madonna, this could explain the lackluster sales for your tour!! Maybe if other entertainers kept their political positions more private than their personal lives, we would respect their excellence in their field more!

35. If entertainers should just stick to entertainment like some of you suggest, then they probably should not promote charity causes like supporting breast cancer research, Operation Smile, Make a Wish Foundation, etc because all they're good at is acting or singing, right? I don't know how voicing one's support, which is your constitutional right, would suggest that others are dumb. Plus, how many songs has Carrie Underwood really listened to? Music has always been and continues to have political themes from all kinds of musical artists. I mean were all the songs during the Vietnam War about puppy love and flowers? Yeah, you're really getting away from the BS in the music industry! Good grief.

36. She's absolutely right and whats worse is except for the likes of Kelsy Grammar, the rest of Hollywood is a bunch of screaming, baindead, bkleeding heart liberals so rich and priviledge and isolated from the rest of the world they have lost all sense of reality. The only scary thing that's worse are the Oprah-'BamaBots who worship their every word...

37. She's RIGHT!!! No celeb has the right to force their beliefs on any one else. Her statement makes me like her even more!!!!

38. She's kind of right you know, because we are the people who make those people as rich as they are by going to their movies, buying their albums etc. WE MAKE THEM, so we certainly don't need them telling us who to vote for.

39. I completely agree with her. I think you Americans (Im Canadian) can make up your own minds on who you want to vote for, you dont need some famous person telling you who to vote for.

40. I agree. Completely. Of course celebrities have the "right" to endorse candidates, i just find it obnoxious and condescending. It's one thing to endorse - it's another thing to preach... And to rant like a lunatic about topics you really don't understand - CARRIE is right, shut the hell up and quit throwing your popularity around. We already know most blacks will vote for Obama, and all the rich will vote for McCain. I too will not vote who Oprah endorses.

41. She's absolutely right...I also think it's stupid for people in the limelight to open their mouths and yak who they endorse...I am just as intelligent as any actor and am capable of making a great decision on who will be a better president for my family....Support to Carrie for speaking the truth.....

43. GOOD FOR YOU CARRIE, THEY THINK THEIR OPINIONS REALLY MATTER TO US AND THEIR PICK WILL SWAY THE AMERICAN PEOPLE!!! WE ARE SMARTER THEN THOSE LAME A$$ WHACKED OUT STARS ARE......YOU GO GIRL:)

44. that's probably one of the smartest things out of her mouth!! i totally agree with her. who cares what celebrity votes for who. besides, the majority celebrities barely past high school and we want THEM to sway us in making an important decision...F that!! GO CARRIE!!
