Underwood Picks a Fight with Half of Hollywood

Carrie UnderwoodThe next time you see a celebrity in a political ad, just know Carrie Underwood thinks that person is stupid.

The former "American Idol" found a soapbox, climbed on it, and proceeded to bash the hell out of all sorts of famous people like Timberlake, Stallone, Affleck and Oprah -- for their decision to publicly endorse a candidate for president.

Underwood tells TV Guide, "There is someone I do support, but I don't support publicly. I lose all respect for celebrities when they back a candidate. It's saying that the American public isn't smart enough to make their own decisions ... music is where you go to get away from all the BS."

93. I agree 100%, I can't stand celebrities telling me how to vote. They do not live in the real world like the rest of us, we are educated people that can make our own decisions. It makes me want to boycott their movies when I see them pushing a certain candiate down our throats. Carrie Underwood is a smart girl!!!

94. Right On Carrie! You are 100% correct. Celebrities have an enormous amount of pull due to their status and unfortunately there are far too many normal people who will listen to their opinions without really understanding the candidate's views and platform.

96. Who freakin' cares who these phonies support? Shut up and sing, or act, or do whatever we pay you to do but shut yer yaps about the politics. She's right on.

97. There's a little something called freedom of speech. Any celebrity can say whatever they want about any candidate. If you don't like it, you certainly don't have to listen to them.

Maybe Underwood and others who agree with her should ASSUME that the American public is actually smart enough to make its own decisions. She seems to be saying that we're all a bunch of idiots who can't think for ourselves and we'll be influenced by what an entertainer says. And if that's the case - that we're all too stupid to make our own choices - then celebrity endorsements are the last thing for anyone here to worry about!!

I have the utmost respect for any person (no matter what their occupation is) who is an active participant in the political process.

98. Carrie is right. Celebrities have way too much influence on Americans, and it isn't always the good kind. Stop telling people what to think; let them make up their own minds.

99. I absolutely agree - I could not care less who these celebrities support politically. Nobody cares who I support so why do they think we care about their political leanings?

100. that's the great thing about America...everyone is right in their own opinion on this.

If people think all celebrity endorsements are stupid...that's fine for them

And if any artists feel that their political opinions are a central part of who they are, then that's fine for them too!

We are all free to choose which information to be interested in, and we are all equally free to make fools of ourselves in public!

101. Carrier underwood, needs to worry about her Bolunmic condition. She has no room to talk about anybody in hollywood, she got her fame at the expense of others and she is nothing but a dumb stupid blond, that has to stop eating to survive.

She will never be what the people she is talking about are.

102. Good for her. I agree completely. I respect her so much more now.

103. I agree with Carrie 100%. I am SICK AND TIRED of Hollywood using their CELEBRITY - getting up on their soap boxes to promote THEIR personal views on politics....from David Letterman, to SNL, to The View, Chelsea Lately to even the Soup - which are suppose to promote COMEDY - they should stick to what they do best - comedy & not using their celebrity to voice THEIR POLITICAL VIEWS !!! I just turn the channel when any of those shows are on anymore... Not to mention if you aren't in the "in-club" and voting for Obama, they you aren't "with it". It has become a "popularity contest" in Hollywood, and peer pressue with the youth !!!..Personally, I think most of Hollywood celebrities are a bunch of self centered, egotistical IDIOTS whose opinions I could care less about - Hollywood doesn't even do their homework when it comes to politics, they are all a bunch of followers who jump on the band wagon of what's cool in Hollywood...
not to mention 99% of the news media has been so BIAS towards Obama, it's really a joke and sickening. It comes down to how much money Obama has thrown at him in donations - by people like Oprah (who I will never watch again) it's all about who has the most money for TV ads..it's a JOKE ! - Look at Obama's bed fellows, and his "followers" just turn their heads at his associations with these people....we'll see what happens if that guy gets into office - our country will be a target for terrosits - they all HOPE Obama gets into office......& I hope everyone will play the BLAME-GAME with Obama if he's in office once he starts his spending spree......I'll be waiting to see him hold true to his promises of how he's going perform his miracles. I'm sure the high paid celebrities will LOVE what he does to them in tax hikes & then they might wonder....gee, why did I vote for this guy??!!!!......

You GO Carrie Underwood - stay true to who you are - not what's popular in Hollywood !!! People will RESPECT you for that !

104. She is going around acting like miss goody two shoes but behind close doors she is committing more sins than the devil himself.

She has placed hersefl above everyting and everybody else and hollywood needs to boycott her ass, her music and everything else and show her ass what is what!!!!

Posted at 1:59PM on Nov 4th 2008 by shocked22

105. I agree with Carrie 100%. Who cares who Hollywood's elite vote for? It's not as if their vote has any more leverage than those of us that make up middle class America. They need to shut up, and just stick to reading what other people write for them.
