Comment # 1 if you knew anything at ALL about music and from your comment you dont, just about every band playing now were inspired by the Deftones, I'm sure not the bands you listen to (maybe Jessica Simpson or Britney)....For a true music fan everyone has heard of them, one of the best live bands you will ever see.

5. I saw an article in the Eureka, CA paper yesterday about this, but am not sure if the accident was in Eureka or one of the surrounding towns. There were 5 guys injured.

Deftones bassist Chi Cheng is in a coma in a San Jose hospital after a car accident in Santa Clara on Monday.

The band's singer, Chino Moreno, reached by phone, confirmed the news but declined to give specifics.

"I don't know everything that's going on – I just know it's very serious," Moreno said. "I'm on my way to be with his family, I'm pretty freaked out about it."

Cheng, 38, was born in Stockton and also is an accomplished poet. In 2000, he released a CD of his poetry, "The Bamboo Parachute."

The Deftones formed in Sacramento in 1988 and released their debut album "Adrenaline" on Madonna's Maverick Records label in 1995. Since then, the hard rock band has sold millions of records. Its biggest-selling release was the 2000 album "White Pony," which sold more than 1 million copies, achieved platinum status and earned the band a Grammy Award for best metal performance for the song "Elite."

The Deftones had been working on its sixth studio album, "Eros," set for a spring 2009 release.

15. I just heard about this last night. damn that sucks. to the 1st comment dude get a clue!! deftones are elite to all those indie bands you probably listen to. they rocked the spaceland in silverlake a few weeks ago. superior show indeed.
