The award is generally given to elected officials who, acting in accord with their conscience, risk their careers by pursuing a larger vision of the national, state or local interest in opposition to popular opinion or powerful pressures from their constituents. In May 2002, she presented an unprecedented Profiles in Courage Award to representatives of the NYPD, the New York City Fire Department, and the military as representatives of all of the people who acted to save the lives of others during the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.[3]

Kennedy is currently President of the Kennedy Library Foundation,[4] a director of both the Commission on Presidential Debates and the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, and Honorary Chairman of the American Ballet Theatre. She is also an adviser to the Harvard Institute of Politics, a living memorial to her father.

She obviously has a lot of knowledge and is capable of being an ambassador. You freaking morons are acting like she is going to be the freaking Secretary of state. If you just crawled out from under the rock you lived in today, the economy has been in a downward spiral for the last two months. This is a recession not a case of the hiccups. Just because there were temporary gains last week means NOTHING.This economy is still in the toilet as it has been for a while.

48. There have been so many changes I have endured living in the deep south over the last ten years. I think that people need to understand that Obama is not the first Black president, he is bi racial. He is equally black and white. It will be interesting in the days to come to see whom he chooses for the cabinet. I voted republican for my own personal reasons, but, I am ready to accept a change.

52. Thanks #43 for listing the qualifications that Caroline Kennedy has for any appointment to the Obama Administration. And of course, she could choose to just sit back , count her Kennedy money, and lead a comfortable life of leisure, but obviously, her family's dedication to civil service has rubbed off on her. How many of the lame-asses posting negative crap here do any type of community or volunteer service in their spare time!!!!!??? Does the Peace Corps or Special Olympics ring a bell to any of you saying the Kennedy's have done nothing????

Caroline Kennedy, would make an excellent choice for anything Obama has open. This is a woman of class, and very reserved. People like this, are not fake and usually are very committed to their jobs/causes. She doesnt seek the lime-light, or prestige. With all the past losers we have had, she can ONLY be an asset.
