Suspect Confession in Hudson Case?

William Balfour -- the only suspect in the Hudson triple murder case -- allegedly told his current girlfriend he was involved in the murders of Hudson's mother and brother, according to sources at the Chicago Tribune.

Balfour's girlfriend in turn told police what he told her. The Tribune also cites sources saying Balfour "acknowledged being at Hudson's Englewood home" on the morning Jennifer Hudson's mother and brother were shot to death inside, and Jen's nephew was abducted and later killed.

These are incredible statements considering William -- who has not been charged with a crime -- could be released tomorrow morning pending a decision by the Illinois Prisoner Review Board on whether he violated the terms of his parole.

Chicago police refused to comment.

61. "Gentle Readers" (as Miss Manners would say).... Please READ the article that TMZ posted.

"These are incredible statements considering William -- who has not been charged with a crime -- could be released tomorrow morning pending a decision by the Illinois Prisoner Review Board on whether he violated the terms of his parole."

Of course they are incredible statements. Why would we assume that the source was credible?

I heard this same stuff a while ago, I think a day or two after William was picked up. It doesn't matter if this girlfriend switched her story and later said he wasn't at her place... police used cell phone records to determine that William was on the west side since mid--morning on the day of the murders (remember that he talked to his parole officer on the phone about missing the regular meeting). And, if the girlfriend's statements were credible, police surely could have found enough evidence by now to charge William with something.

For Chrissy - #49 - the same thoughts crossed my mind; maybe this "girlfriend" has her own axe to grind, now that she's heard William's mother say that he has two other girlfriends but that William and Julia are "still together." If she is actually pregnant, with William's child, it's likely that this was unwelcome news. What better way to punish him than saying things toward the goal of getting him accused of murder, and therefore keeping his butt in jail?

And, this was not a "confession." We already knew that William had told police that he had been at the Hudson home very early on the day of the murders (after Julia called to fuss about having her wages garnished for the unpaid car note). We also know that he told police he left his car there (maybe for Julia to use so she would stop fussing about not having transportation?) because by the time the news reports of his being found aired, early that evening, it was also said that the teal green Chrysler had been found so that vehicle was removed from the Amber Alert. We later learned that someone (not William, since he was already on the west side, per cell phone records) drove it to the high school just a few blocks away at 12:30 P.M. (so it was probably easily located when police checked around the neighborhood after William told them he'd left the car at the Hudson home).

We shall see what happens over the next few days. I think this "news story" is just a way for the media to lead into whatever additional coverage they will do in following up with this investigation. There's no "news" in it.

62. It's pretty rough to say that Julia was involved in these murders just because she seems pretty darned strange. After all, that was her mother, brother and son that are now DEAD. The brother sounds like he was a bad one with the drug dealing and that is probably what got them all killed. I doubt very much that the grandmother was involved in that nasty business but the son and Julian's father are gang members and so is William Balfour. Maybe Julia? All I know is that innocent people were killed, including an innocent little boy. the little boy got the worst of it because he must have been so scared! It sounds like a horrible end to his life. Who knows how long he suffered. No matter what, Julia has to live with that knowledge. It's awful. I just hope that the police are able to figure this all out and the right people are punished forever.

63. Just to put some perspective on this situation for all those who have posted wondering if Julia will be "picked up" by police... it's not necessary. Julia, Jennifer, and several others identified as "family members" have actually BEEN under 24/7 police and FBI watch for protective custody ever since Jennifer arrived to identify the remains. This serves several purposes... obviously it is truly protective, since this whole situation is so complicated that police weren't sure who might do what to whom next, and it also keeps those close to the situation on hand if police need to talk to them further.

Remember also that Julia was NOT present at the identification of the remains of her mother and brother, nor at the identification of her son. Per the coroner's office here, Jennifer performed that duty on both occasions, accompanied by a few other family members (aunties and cousins).

65. I don't think this was a drug or gang hit becauae they take out entire families (babies and all) without blinking an eye. They would not take Julian from the house just to kill him and dump him and the car later. They would have known that this was Jennifer's people and to take the boy and the SUV knowing that this would get all kinds of media attention just doesn't add up.

I don't think that Jason and Darnell's murder was planned. I think it happened in the heat of the moment. However, Julian's murder was definately thought out.

I think Julia came home from her birthday dinner with Julian and William. She sent Julian upstairs with her Mother so she could put him to bed. I think she then let William in so she could continue "celebrating" her birthday. The next morning Jason found out that William was there and he and William began to argue. Jason grabs William and is physically trying to put him out the house. Jason is about 3 times William's size, so Julia runs to get the gun just to get Jason to let William go. In the mean time, William is thrown out the house and he drives off.

Julia gets back with the gun to find Jason coming in the front door and the gun goes off accidentally. Julia goes over to Jason to try to help him and she sits the gun down. By this time, Darnell has run into the living room and see's Jason lying on the floor. Once she realizes that Julia has shot him, she starts screaming "What have you done?" Julia tries to explain that it was an accident and Darnell begins hitting Julia and screaming that she hates her. This really pisses Julia off because she feels like this is another example of her Mother choosing Jason over her. Julia picks up the gun and shoots Darnell multiple times.

She goes upstairs to get Julian to take him out of the house. Jason follows her into Julian's room and then she shoots Jason again and that's where the cops would later find Jason. She gets Jason;s keys and then finds Julian hiding (or possibly he slept through the gunshots) in another room (maybe Darnell's).

Julia takes Julian out the back door and drives off. Meanwhile, she is calling William on his cell and he doesn't take her calls. She then drives to a 3rd parties house (maybe Julian's real dad) and tells him what happened. She has some type of damaging info on this person and uses that as leverage to force them to help her. He then drops Julia off at work and Julia continues to call William but he won't answer.

Julia is now pissed off at William because he ran back to his pregnant girlfriend after being with her and won't take her calls and she ends up shooting her Mother and Brother over him. She has the 3rd party steal William's car and park it at the high school a few blocks from the murder scene to teach him a lesson for running off that morning.

She goes over in her mind what she's going to say about finding her Mother and Brother. Its at this point, she realizes that she cannot rely on Julian to tell the same story so she has to figure out what to do about him. She then comes up with the "kidnap" angle to buy some time to figure out what to do about Julian. She makes the 911 call and then goes to the police station to report Julian and the SUV missing.

The police talk to neighbors, some of who say they saw William's car that morning and heard shots and that they heard him arguing with Jason previously, so the police automatically follow that line of questioning and Julia says William has threatened them in the past and threatened to take Julian from her. She knows they will find William's car a few blocks away eventually and bring him in for questioning.

She meets back up with the 3rd party after police pick William up Friday night. Julian is there in the SUV and they (3rd party) tell her to say she did it in self defense and she says "Hell no". Maybe they threaten to turn her in and she says that Julian can implicate them both and he needs to be removed. The 3rd party refuses to do it and she gets in the truck and shoots Julian in the head point blank 2 times to show this person that she will eliminate ANYBODY who can stand in her way of getting away with murder. Her killing her own child in front of the 3rd party is so shocking that they realize they better do what she says or they will be next.

She has no way to get to William to ensure he doesn't talk about Jason finding him in the house. She now realizes that William might implicate her so she figures she better beat him to the punch. She has the 3rd party to dump the car with Julian's body and the gun somewhere near the pregnant girlfriend's house to further implicate William.

Initially William just denies any tension existed between him and the family. Then police start telling him that neighbors say they saw his car there the morning of the murders and that gunshots were heard shortly afterward. He then realizes that Julia did it, but doesn't want to implicate her. He then is told that they found his car a few blocks from Julia's house and he can't figure it out (he never new that his car was stolen from the girlfiend's house) and he says no way, he never left the girlfriend's house that day. They check his cell phone records and find that he was on the west side of Chicago when the video tape shows his car being left at the high school.

He's then told that Julian's body was found near the girlfriend's house along with the gun. He then starts to realize that the only person who would want to make this look like he was involved is Julia so he admits that he was there, but when he left everyone was alive.

The police don't have his prints or dna on anything so the DA declines to charge him with anything. Police start to investigate Julia's cell phone records, etc. Julia's story isn't adding up, Charges are forthcoming against Julia Hudson!

66. Hey there, good_golly_will_a_kers! :) Actually, the whole TMZ post about this article is gossip, which I guess is what the site is all about! Time for me to sign off now and catch some ZZZs so I guess we'll all be back on tomorrow after we see what happens with the parole hearing.

67. Julia has nothing to do with this.

Balfour has a GIRLFRIEND. Julia is his ESTRANGED WIFE. They are NOT the same people.

68. OK l honestly agree with what everybody is saying because unless it was some kind of trained killer they should have been able to find finger prints somewhere, right? I mean its crazy because it really does sound like the police made a mistake and now they're keeping everything low key because they might've jailed the wrong guy... I hope not but it sounds like theres more than one party invovled..

69. The theory is leaning more to this was a drug incident. Balfour went to that house with an accomplice to try and steal money/drugs from Jason because Jason refused to cut Balour in on the profits. Jason came to the door and would not open it and thats why there was a shot through the door..Darnell came running into the room and she was shot..the thugs didnt expect Julian to be there..they did not know shcool was not scheduled that day. They tool Julian because he was a witness and may have tortured him to tell then where the money and drugs were kept in the house..Julians hand was broken and lacerated so badly that cops thought at first his hand had been severed which leads them to wonder if he had been tortured somehow. The accomplice with Balfour dumped the car they had some to the house in by a school and cameras captured him doing that. I doubt Balfour had the balls to shoot Julian so he made his accomplice do it. This is what the police are looking into and to those that bitch out the police as to why they are not releasing info..they dont have to..and it is not our right to know everything that is going on..if they spill everything to the public what kind of case fo you think they will have..they are obviouslym and rightly so, playing the cards close to their chest. There is also speculation that the thugs were going to try and get ransom for Julian from Jennifer..these fools made some big mistakes and I hope they burn in hell for what they have done.

70. southside:

Happy to see you. I tried to post on another thread, but I never got thru. Congrats on the other night, glad you had a great time! Chicago was the place to be.

I still can't bring myself to think of Julia as guilty in any way.

I can, however, bring myself to acknowledge I've convicted William on some flimsy evidence. I have zero interest in bringing charges against the wrong person that is not justice.

The CPD, and more importantly, the Cook County Prosecutors aren't talking. We can speculate all we wish (and we will!), but this has nothing to do with our legal system. Which is good!

Dear God, if our legal system relied on TMZ comments, we would all be in jail!

73. This is old news-
I posted this information under another Hudson story last week and people discredited it by saying that it came from a blog- even though the blog's source was the chicago tribune. William's girlfriend gave the police this information the day they arrested William, which was the Friday of the murders. After they arrested William, they questioned the girlfriend who contradicted William's alibi and said that William admitted his involment to her. Even with this information from his girlfriend, they never charged him, which was odd. There are also reports placing William and Julia together at the Hudson home the morning of the murders. There are also reports stating that Julia only went to work to pick up her paycheck- she did not work that day because school was out. Again, I ask, how did she get there since she had no means of transportation? If she was only running to get her paycheck did she ask Jason if she could borrow his white Suburban truck? Was the Suburban really stolen or did she already have it? There's still too many holes in this story. If they had something on Balfour they would've charged him the day of the murders since that's when his girlfriend gave them this info.

Let's assume Julia and William are both involved:
Her family had pissed her off because of the way they treated her husband. She wanted nothing more than to be with him, but obviously that would never happen under her mother's roof. Since the day they hooked up all her family ever did was criticize him. Sure he served time in jail for attempted murder but people do change. After all, they grew up together. Neither one of them made enough money to get their own place, especially in Chicago where the cost of living is so damn high. William was her soul mate, the type of man who promised her the world. It would just take him some time to get his life on track. He told her she was beautiful, skinny, smart, sexy and more talented than her sister will ever be. He always said that Julia should've been the star of the family and often vented to Julia how messed up it was that her mother favored Jason and Jennifer over her. She confided in him that she should've been the one on American Idol with the Oscar, but no- Mom wanted her baby Jennifer to be the successful one. Now Julia's stuck driving a school bus, while Jennifer's driving a Hummer. On top of that, mom kicked her husband out and Jason had him jumped. That's messed up. She didn't say anything when Jason was busted selling drugs from the house.

Now, Julia's about to lose the person who means more than anything to her. William doesn't think things are going to work out and has moved in with some chick. She ain't having that. You know- Julia is a ride or die type of chick. He tells Julia that she'll always be the love of his life, but her family interferes too much.

For the sake of keeping her man, they devise a plan to kill off everyone in their way. Julian was removed from the home before the murders because they both loved him, even if he didn't respect Julia as his mother. Julia wakes Julian up early in the morning or maybe Julian never went back to his grandmother's house after the birthday dinner. Julia, Julian and William spend the night somewhere together where Julia and William plan the next days events. That morning, Julia and William go to the house and kill off Mom and Jason. Julia knows that Jason has drugs and cash locked up in his bedroom, so they make him give it to them before killing him. After the killings take place, they pick up Julian, who was left either wherever they spent the night (a hotel?), or in the car, and him being the smart kid that he was overheard them talking about the murders and began to ask questions and began crying to be with his grandmother. Knowing that Julian knew too much and if questioned by the police he would tell them what he heard, the only thing they could do was kill him. Perhaps that wasn't their initial intent, which would explain why they removed him from the home. If Julia's DNA was in the truck and even on the gun, it would be a hard case to prove since she could have realistically had access to both. There would have to be an eyewitness or sufficient evidence linking her to the crimes. For some reason, I think there's probably a lot of things linking her to the crime, but many of them are questionable.
*Mom and Julian have life insurance policies with Julia listed as the beneficiary. This could provide a nice lump sum for Julia and William, and they'll live happily ever after.

CHICAGO, Ill. --
William Balfour, the only individual to be identified as a “person of interest” in the shootings of Jennifer Hudson’s mother and brother, allegedly told his girlfriend he was involved in the murders, sources told the Chicago Tribune.

However, Balfour’s girlfriend reportedly told police that he was not involved in the death of Hudson’s 7-year-old nephew, Julian King. Julian, the son of Jennifer’s sister (and Balfour’s estranged wife) Julia, went missing around the time of the shootings. His body was later discovered in an SUV on the South Side of Chicago.

Law enforcement officials reportedly told the Tribune that Balfour allegedly stated that he was at the Hudsons’ home the morning of the murders.

Darnell Donerson and Jason Hudson, the mother and brother of Oscar winner Jennifer, were found dead on the afternoon of Oct. 24 in their home on the South Side of Chicago.

Balfour had been on parole since his 2006 release from prison after a 1999 conviction for attempted murder until he was reportedly taken into police custody at around 6 PM on the day of the murders. He has not been charged in the case, though he was reportedly returned to prison on a parole violation after being held for 48 hours.

The day of the murders, he reportedly missed a meeting with his parole officer and told him that he was “babysitting on the West Side,” according to the Associated Press.

The Tribune reported that upon his arrest, he answered officers’ questions until offered a lie-detector test, which he refused to take.

Balfour is scheduled to have a hearing before the Illinois Prisoner Review Board at 9 AM on Monday, at which time he could be set free or held for further hearings should the board find probable cause that he has violated his parole or committed a crime.
