Witness -- Balfour Wanted to Split for Miss.

William Balfour called a Mississippi college student the morning of the Hudson triple murder -- so she says -- and asked if he and his "boys" could stay with her after doing "something real big" in Chicago that day.

Rashia Whitlock told investigators Balfour called her at 4:00 AM on October 24, the day the murders occurred, and, according to the Chicago Sun-Times, told her he and his "boys" were "getting ready for something real big that's going to go down tomorrow." Balfour then asked if they could come visit her, says Whitlock, which she refused.

Whitlock also said Balfour asked her whether she knew Jennifer Hudson and, more ominously, if Whitlock could be "loyal." She said she had met Balfour on MySpace.

17. NONA YOU ARE RIGHT, HER NAME SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN KNOWN, THEN YOU WONDER WHY PEOPLE DON'T COME FORWARD. LET HER KNOW THAT SHE IS NOT ALONE.....STAY STRONG THIS WILL SOON BE OVER...

18. 14. As someone who knows this young lady... She is not doing this to be famous... She never expected her name to be released...She came forward and was cooperative because that was the right thing to do... There are so many people who say nothing for years if at all... You may not agree with how she handled it but attacking people for speaking up is not the way u encourage others to come forward who are witness or may have knowledge of crimes
AND CPD is bogus fa real for releasing her name and so is the news because her name very well could have been left out

i agree, she did do the right thing. anyone with any common sense would know in a situation like this, the last thing you would want is to have your name made public. now she will not only have to keep looking over her shoulder, she will also have to deal with people who have nothing better to do than to "report" her myspace status every hour. looks to me ANON is the one desperate for attention.
thank you for speaking up!

And I guess there are no finger prints on the gun....and who rides around with a curtain in their truck...did the curtain belong to the HUDson family ??? or what come on ..did the curtain match a set in the hudson home, did it match william's girlfriend home.................AND for Rashia Whitlock if he called you 4 a.m. in the morning and asked can he come down with his boys, It would have been the most STUPID thing in the world to mention that something BIG is going to go down and asking u do you know Jennifer Hudson..I hope william is not that Gulliable...Rashia met him on MYSPACE and they talked 2times...why in the HELL would he put sooooooo much trust in you to being LOYAL after speaking only 2 X..

20. Well, I see Julia hasn't logged onto her myspace since 11/7/08, is she being detained ? If not, I bet she logs on now, that she isn't the prettiest one anymore. All these fameho's, crazy !!!!!

21. Well, that phone conversation does sound a bit unbelievable. And I can't imagine waiting this long, after his face is plastered all over for weeks.

As for the enhanced video, I think it works best if you have a quality product to start with. That may not be the case, or they may be in the process of getting it done. It's pretty time consuming. And you have to do it in such a way that it would be admissible in court.

22. Actress Jennifer Hudson and some of her relatives have been staying free of charge at the Trump International Hotel & Tower since their family members were found slain.

Real-estate mogul Donald Trump told People magazine at a benefit Monday night that they were being protected and were "very safe."

"She's a great girl. And we're protecting them well," Trump said.

23. I give her credit for coming forward at all. And they should not have released her full name or the full name of Williams girlfriend who ratted him out. That was wrong to do. These girls came forward trying to do the right thing and no no one will leave them alone. If anyone is at fault here it's the CPD!

Posted at 6:39PM on Nov 11th 2008 by Me

24. I totally agree. They should have never released her name, nor the name of the girlfriend. And I'm sure the police called her, she didn't call them. This is how people get hurt. Now this girl has to be afraid of leaving her home because of her trying to do "the right thing". WHEW - this entire situation just makes me sick to my stomach. I still cannot believe how someone could shoot an innocent 7 year old in the head. And I'm sure he was scared beyond words. Sickening.

25. For #13 - monitor - Chicago police information given to media here reported the approximate time of death for Darnell and Jason as around 10 - 11AM Friday morning. It's not clear whether the gunshot sounds reported earlier in the morning by neighbors were related to this or not, since forensic evidence doesn't yield an *exact* time of death. It's just a reasonable approximation based on the condition of the bodies when found. You have to figure a few hours margin of error either way.

But NO information has been released about Julian's approximate time of death. Police did report that he had been killed inside the SUV in which he was found, that he had been shot twice in the head, and that his body had been found with a curtain covering it. I'm thinking that the "time of death" information was kept from media because it may be one of the key pieces of information that will point to someone other than the stated "person of interest" being involved, and that investigation led police in another direction.

Time to join the rest of us in the 21st Century, my colored brothers and sisters.

27. I'm not sure what "investigators" heard this statement from Ms, Whitlock, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't the Chicago Police Department. There is much that hasn't been released to the media as the investigation moves forward, since this is a complicated case. I've never known of the CPD to release the names of witnesses or key informants that they can't protect while an investigation is in process. If they'd released any information at all about this report, it would come out as, "Police have learned that William Balfour contacted an acquaintance out of state several hours before visiting the Hudson home to plan his getaway." Also remember that it wasn't the CPD who released the name of "girlfriend" Shonda Cathey, who was mentioned in yesterday's parole hearing. Her "report" of having seen William with a gun that resembled the one later found to be the murder weapon supposedly came from a statement she made to the parole officer that was later passed on to the State's Attorney's Office.

I'm also not sure what to think about this latest information. The report of Ms. Whitlock's statement suggests that William was planning some kind of big hit and was trying to plan an escape and find a place to stay. But this is totally inconsistent with what he actually DID on Friday, Oct. 24. He didn't act like a person who was trying to hide from anyone. Though we're not sure of his reason for visiting the Hudson home early (I've thought that maybe he went there to give Julia the car to use since she was fussing about his not making the payments) we do know that when he left that area, he went to his girlfriend's home in Lawndale, where he was known to stay by family, friends, and even his parole officer, who had done a home visit there. And... one has to wonder why a person looking for a place to hide out after planning and executing a multiple homicide would look to a casual "e-pal" such as a MySpace contact to trust with this information, and expect "loyalty" and cooperation from a person he didn't really know.

Posted at 9:20PM on Nov 11th 2008 by southsidechicago

28. I don't know who really did what when and where - but isn't it just a tad unlikely that Balfour and "his boys" would choose some kid he met on MySpace to "hide out" and tell her all that info about it before it happened?!? Just a tad? Honestly.

29. For #22 and #23 - For the record - the Chicago Police Department did NOT release the names of either Ms. Whitlock or Ms. Cathey. CPD never does anything like this when an investigation is in progress, for obvious reasons that you've already identified. Public statements are made to the media by their official community and media spokesperson, the Superintendent, or occasionally by a commander, officer, or detective who is authorized to do so. However, since we do have freedom of speech here, there's nothing to prevent witnesses or informants from choosing to speak out directly. They can post on the internet, call the media themselves, or get in front of the TV cameras on the block. Or, they can choose to pass the information on to other "authorities" outside the police department, who may not be sensitive to protecting their safety and privacy. Perhaps that is what happened here. Whatever the case, it's unfortunate that these young women didn't choose to deal directly with the police FIRST so that they could at least avoid the stress of possibly being "targeted" by persons unknown in a very complicated crime that may not yet be completely solved.

30. For #26 - jwoolman- I agree completely. Chatting, blogging, joining discussion groups, and otherwise socializing in cyberspace is fun, for sure. But we also know that an individual's "online personality" may be completely different than the "real life"person. (Think of the many children and teens who have been victimized by adult pedophiles they "meet" on MySpace or Facebook posing as other kids). It's totally absurd to think that someone planning a multiple homicide and the subsequent getaway would entrust this information to a chat buddy from MySpace.
