Witness -- Balfour Wanted to Split for Miss.

William Balfour called a Mississippi college student the morning of the Hudson triple murder -- so she says -- and asked if he and his "boys" could stay with her after doing "something real big" in Chicago that day.

Rashia Whitlock told investigators Balfour called her at 4:00 AM on October 24, the day the murders occurred, and, according to the Chicago Sun-Times, told her he and his "boys" were "getting ready for something real big that's going to go down tomorrow." Balfour then asked if they could come visit her, says Whitlock, which she refused.

Whitlock also said Balfour asked her whether she knew Jennifer Hudson and, more ominously, if Whitlock could be "loyal." She said she had met Balfour on MySpace.

31. southside:

Interesting comments as always. I went back and read the news articles, and sure enough they didn't name names. I'm always leery about the 'anonymous' sources. It's very unclear who 'outed' them, but I think it was not so smart.

But mostly, I have a problem with the content of the conversation being reported. That sounds more than a little insane. The question about 'knowing Julia Hudson' is extremely suspicious. If they met on myspace, she already knew that, as it was pretty prominent. That part of his page was old, and hadn't been updated for a year or so.

So, we still have virtually no official information. Which is fine, I still think that could be a really good thing. But this reported phone call just doesn't ring completely valid. I'm not going to use the word untrue, but, as reported, these statements would be absolutely insane for someone in his position to make.

32. Oops., I meant to say the CPD didn't name names.

33. If she did share this information, Leave her alone, quit going to her pages, and stop passing on info about any other pages she might have! Whatever happened, whatever she told them, if she did tell them, she was trying to help and maybe just maybe this has and will help keep a SUSPECT off the streets and away from you and your children and your families. How would you feel if a bunch of strangers did this to YOU ALL! CMon people GET SOME BUSINESS OF YOUR OWN AND A LIFE. AGGRAVADED

34. Mindy: I wondered about that alleged conversation too. William's MySpace page was, and still is, pretty straightforward... says he's married to Julia, "proud parent" of his stepson, and that though Jennifer is his sis-in-law and he wishes her well, he would prefer that MySpace pals chat with HIM and not make a big deal of the celebrity conection. Lots of happy family pics with him, Julia, and Jason are on the page too. Anyone who'd become acquainted with him through MySpace would have seen all this.

No way can I imagine that William would expect a 19-year-old student, probably just on MySpace for a little fun and flirting as most kids are, who he'd never even met in person, to become his accomplice in a plot to murder his beloved family.

35. I find it hard to believe this girls story. The CPD said that they traced all the suspects and family's phone records if this is true they would have known about this call before she reported it. I think she wants her 15 minutes of fame and for her to try and get it from this tragedy is as low as you can get.

36. These developments are becoming increasingly bizarre. It's hard to believe that William would be dumb enough to call someone he hardly knows and reveal so much info. I still believe the more time they spend on this case, the more "evidence" will present itself. I have to wonder if perhaps the CPD is doing something shady with their investigation. I still wonder why Julia and Jason were never charged when the cops raided their house in 2002 but Greg King was the only person who had to serve time. Perhaps they threatened to sue the CPD so all charges were dropped. I believe that even if they had evidence against Julia, they're afraid of acting on it due to the support Jennifer is receiving from powerful national figures like Obama and Oprah. This is a high profile case which must be handled as efficiently as possible. William needs to obtain a lawyer ASAP because something's fishy about all of this.

39. Hey does anybody else notice that this girl is getting her name famous,by people posting about her on different sites just like Julia did? Well it looks like they both got what they wanted. ( They are very sick girls )

40. It just makes me mad when people make up things.. sounds a lot like this girl thought it would be cute to make up this story and now it went too far and she's scared she's gonna get in trouble. In the meantime all she's doing is delaying the CPD from investing REAL tips. And THAT is why I will continue to "check her status"... so for the person who said they know her... tell her she probably shouldn't give out her number to strange men she meets on myspace or next time she might be the one who ends up dead... but then again since she's probably lying nothing to be too concerned about =)

41. Hey Anon I agree with you it is a shame that this girl is delaying the investigation with her story, it does not sound true at all. If this girl is nervous about her name being out there she should have thought twice before she told such an unbelievable tale. She should be careful what she ask for. She might get her name famous for something else!!!

"Anon"- Show some class. If you think it's necessary to "continue to check her status" than do so. Announcing it sounds very childish, you seem to be thriving on somebody else's misfortune, which in turn makes you appear desperate for attention.

43. Yeah, the whole "This has gone too far" statement on her page tends to make me think that maybe she started off joking to somebody about it, or maybe she was blogging or talking in person to a friend or two about the case and as the conversation got re-told over and over again, it ended up that William called her, etc.

I find it hard to believe that he would reach out to a college student asking for a hideout. What was she going to do, hide the gang of them in her dorm room? What would she have said to her room mate??

Again, if William did contact this girl by phone as it is being REPORTED that she did, the CPD would have contacted her weeks ago and they do not release names, especially when NO charges have been filed.

So when she told him no, William just said, "Oh well, I'm going to go ahead with my pre-meditated plan to kill my Wife's family on the day I have a meeting with my Parole Officer. Then afterwards, I'll answer the phone when he calls to find out why I missed the meeting. Then I'll just hang out here at my girlfriend's house where everybody knows I'm staying and wait for them to bring me in"!!

I'll say it again, if this report is true also, then William deserves to be thrown under the jail for being the dumbest criminal on earth!!!

44. Something Just Ain't Right, Could you please answer this question for me? Is this story true or did people get it from bogs? I can not believe that theCPD would take this girls story serious. Thank You

45. southside:

You hit it on the head. He never had lots of 'extras' on his page. It was very straightforward. Nothing controversial, even in retrospect.

He was easy enough to find in Chicago. If he thought it was important to get as far as Mississippi, then hey, his back up plan should at least include Indiana or Michigan.

I don't like this latest rumor at all.

But, I'm still feeling hopeful that the CPD is telling us nothing for a reason. Let's all hope the reason is justice, no matter who you think is guilty.
