Witness -- Balfour Wanted to Split for Miss.

William Balfour called a Mississippi college student the morning of the Hudson triple murder -- so she says -- and asked if he and his "boys" could stay with her after doing "something real big" in Chicago that day.

Rashia Whitlock told investigators Balfour called her at 4:00 AM on October 24, the day the murders occurred, and, according to the Chicago Sun-Times, told her he and his "boys" were "getting ready for something real big that's going to go down tomorrow." Balfour then asked if they could come visit her, says Whitlock, which she refused.

Whitlock also said Balfour asked her whether she knew Jennifer Hudson and, more ominously, if Whitlock could be "loyal." She said she had met Balfour on MySpace.

46. Getreal:

The story comes from some big newspapers, not just blogs. However, it seems to come from news sources, not the CPD.

News sources consist of incredible insiders with valuable information and also shady people who won't give their name. It' s a mixed bag.

Take it with a grain of salt and go to either the Chicago Tribune or the Chicago Sun Times for info. Read it all, and you will be in a better position to react some of these posts.

49. This girl's story is a lie. I think she only wants to see how far bloggers will take "any story" written on a blog as "truth". This student should be careful implying that you have knowledge or took part in a murder investigation and you did'nt could get you "put behind bars" (FOR REAL)... Just a warning for you (this is no game).

50. Why do you all think she is lying? Maybe she did tell the police this earlier, none of us know that she didn't. I'm sorry, but I just can't see her involving herself in this case knowing that it could be possible danger to her. I think she is telling the truth. People get on myspace all the time and tell personal things to strangers. Think about it. They obviously had each other's phone numbers and didn't know one another well. What's wrong with you people. If the phone call was a lie, the police would know that from looking at the cell phone records. I'm sure they saw the number on William's cell records and they contacted HER. I doubt she would make all the rest of that up KNOWING that William is in a gang and the other members could possibly look for her. I believe he did call her and say those things. I don't think it was for her 15 minutes of fame. Everybody is not trying to get attention! I'm sure there are other things we all don't know that will slowly leak out. Just wait and you'll see. It's all a huge puzzle and this is just 1 little piece of it. Of course it doesn't make sense, and that's because you don't have the whole story yet.

51. TYPICAL!!

52. Something just ain't right - you said:

40. Yeah, the whole "This has gone too far" statement on her page tends to make me think that maybe she started off joking to somebody about it, or maybe she was blogging or talking in person to a friend or two about the case and as the conversation got re-told over and over again, it ended up that William called her, etc.

You just might be right there!

Another thought - Parhaps Ms. Whitlock wasn't even the one who gave this story to the "news sources" - it might have been a mean prank pulled by one of her acquaintances who wanted to harass her. In either case, it's likely that serious repercussions of this "hot gossip" weren't fully considered until her name was mentioned in a major urban newspaper as a key informant in a triple homicide.

For Anon and Real Girl - I don't think you need to be concerned about this new information interfering with, or delaying, the "real" police investigation. In any high-profile case, investigators are accustomed to sorting through all of the misinformation and disinformation that comes to them. Also remember that whatever happened - or didn't happen - in a phone conversation at 4 AM on October 24 was already known to police by the end of that day.

One of the first moves made by detectives was to check ALL cell phone records of ALL parties acquainted with the case... William's, the deceased family members, and even Jennifer's and Julia's, not just to identify their locations to establish the investigation timeline, but also to figure out if any might have gotten bogus or threatening calls that might provide clues to a motive for the crime. If the phone call at 4 AM did happen, be assured that it's already been investigated.

53. Tkanks, Southside Chicago for the update, I'm sure CPD is looking in all directions, it's just funny that they would name, names in this high profile case. I know the media name the girlfriend but that was after the Belford mom was on Nancy Grace naming names. If Ms. Miss talk to the media they would have given her name in the story because they don't want anyone to think just made that story up. She should have been careful.........Monitor

54. For fight4julianking (#50) - You're right, almost :)

The reasons for the deliberations and negotiations as to how and when to move this case to closure aren't really due to "support Jennifer is receiving from powerful national figures like Obama and Oprah." They've done nothing but express their condolences to Jennifer on her tragic loss, as many other prominent Chicagoans have, including Mayor Daley, and many other not-so-famous Chicagoans like the neighbors on the block. They personally have nothing to gain or lose, regardless of the outcome of the case. The "powers that be" in this case are those who have a direct financial interest in the outcome, and the attorney(s) who will be defending them.

55. WOW! Bet William's pregnant girlfriend will not be happy to hear about this young lady when she had to endure the talk about William and Julia being together. So many families are hurting from this crime. I hope they can find some peace from those who wish them well.

56. I believe the CPD needs to dig dig dig into this investigation and take their time, investigate everything possible.
Reason being if they are hasty to charge one person who may not really be guilty, then that means the real perpetrators are still running around & could hurt others.
I'm not sure of the motive of this young girl for telling this information now, unless she really didn't say it.
I know everyone wants closure, but please allow the CPD the time to investigate this fully, so they don't err.
It will be fully appreciated by Jennifer & Julian I am sure.
I hope the media and everyone else realizes this and does not pressure CPD to close this case in a rush of judgment.

57. dancing bear - I don't think we need to worry too much about the police rushing to judgment on this. SOMEONE has gone to great lengths to make it appear that William is the sole guilty party here.... but they haven't done a very neat job of it. There was simply too much going on *after* William was already on custody. Police searched the area around his girlfriend's home on Friday evening right after they picked him up, and found no trace of Julian or the SUV. Then, suppposedly on another "anonymous tip," they searched that same area *again* on Sunday evening, with no results. Somehow, that SUV appeared on the street early Monday morning, with Julian's remains inside. And... we later learned that the murder weapon was dumped in the area sometime Saturday afternoon; witness who saw something thrown out of the window stated that there were *two* people in the truck, which had been driving around the area that day. There are lots of other inconsistences too, that we've mentioned in previous postings and on other threads. I think this report about the young lady in Mississippi getting a 4 AM phone call is perhaps the most far-fetched one I've heard so far. It sounds more like a cruel prank pulled by one of her associates than credible evidence in this case. If WE have figured out that there are a lot of things that just don't add up here, I'm sure police have figured this out too.

Posted at 8:44PM on Nov 13th 2008 by southsidechicago

58. southsidechicago- i agree, the police are probably not looking to TMZ bloggers for answers or overlooked possibilities! i had not heard about the "anonymous tip" in regards to the SUV. do you know if the "tip" was for just a general location or a specific area and what was the proximity of that from where the SUV was actually found? if the police were led to a specific location and that is later where the SUV showed up, it sounds like it had been predetermined where the vehicle was going to be abandon. with all the possibilities out there, it's hard to try get insight as to how much of this was pre-planned, or if it was in fact a drug deal gone bad.
i guess the answers, whatever they are does not change the fact that 3 people lost their lives, and a family's world has forever been torn apart.

59. 57. Once again, blacks are showing their true colors. And unfortunately, the rest of the world is laughing at them.

Time to join the rest of us in the 21st Century, my colored brothers and sisters.

i hardly think anyone is laughing. grow up.

Posted at 9:47PM on Nov 13th 2008 by good_golly_will_a_kers

60. good_golly_will_a_kers: The whole deal on the SUV's location sounded like a schedule glitch on the part of the perps to me also. During the first few days following the home invasion, of course police were on media asking for ANY information from ANYONE and they tried to follow up on each lead. The "tip" to re-search the blocks in Lawndale, near William's girlfriend's place, must have come some time AFTER they'd already been through the area Friday night, because they went back Sunday and searched that same area AGAIN, still no results. So, police probably assumed this to be misinformation when it didn't pan out. But... lo and behold...there's the white SUV, bright and early Monday morning.

That's what is strange... maybe whoever called thought the SUV was already there because they knew of the plan, but didn't know that whoever was supposed to put it there hadn't actually done it yet. In any case, it sure seems that there was some planning involved.
