Hot Vegas
Killer Odds In Vegas -- for Suicide!?

Las Vegas is scientifically proven to make you want to kill yourself -- and shockingly, it has nothing to do with the Carrot Top show.

People who visit Sin City are twice as likely to off themselves as those who just stay home, says a new Temple-Harvard study examining suicides between 1979 to 2004.

And the news is even worse if you actually live in Vegas: You're 60 percent more likely to commit suicide than other Americans.

In case you were wondering if it was the people or the city -- suicide risk goes way down when people leave.

16. Double down dead ender....Again, you need to get your head out of your a$$. I am very aware with what goes on in my city and am very involved in my kids lives and my community. If I were you, I'd be taking a look at Southern California statistics before you start spouting off about Summerlin being ground zero for depriciation and forclosure rates. Not everyone here is a loser drug addict or whore. Way to generalize there, buddy! There are plenty of great people here, oh but you must not know that because you must be one of the many losers that come here just to think they're cool by wasting their money on whores and drugs and trying to act like the pimp that you're not. Have you ever lived here or just pissed your money away on such things? Little sore, are you? You're the idiot, talk out of your ass a little more.

17. Vegas is a lot of fun for people who are reasoably well to do and who know how to set a limit on their gambling. Love the shows and hot clubs.

But Nevada also has a high Mormon population and these people are notoriously unhappy because their leaders exploit them by taking 10% of their gross income and demanding numerous hours of free work to serve their cult. They also are encouraged to marry too young and breed lots of kids, which pushes them into a finacial hole they can't get out of.

Utah, with an even higher Mormon population, has the highest Prozac consumption in the nation. It also has the highest bankruptcy rate (thanks to the Mormon cult).

Give me Las Vegas any day and let me par-tay!!

20. Well the thing is everybody comes here thinking its a great fun place to be everybody on TV makes it look so fun so easy to get money quick and go out everynight see the stars that come here, but when reality sets in and they find out this city is just like every other city.. . And it can suck people in the drinking the gambling.. I have lived here my whole life and have been allover the country and everywhere has the drugs the kidnapping the forcolsures the bad economy bad parenting, we are not in a bubble that bad things cant happen here and people think that we are.. You can live here and not be beyond your means and not let the glam of the city suck you in and have a family and be just fine...

23. My husband had to work in Vegas last year for 3 months. Our family rented a condo as I have always wanted to go. It was fun for the 1st month. After that there was nothing to do. We avoided the strip like the plague Thurs-Sunday. Hallowen really did it for me. Where I am from, our kids trick or treat witin the neighborhood(s). Well, not in Vegas. Halloween there is, the police/fire depts set up 'stations' in the Home Depot etc parking lots and the kids go through in a line and get candy. We got there 30 mins after the "trick or treating" began and got turned away because there were too many people.
Everyone we chatted with ( grocery stores/restaurants) hated Las Vega. They were all from somewhere else, and felt they were basically stuck there.
I can see the suicide rate being high. Directly off the strip there are homless people everywhere and the downtown/Fremont St. area is really seedy.
I guess it's ok if you are single and make good money. But for a family looking to do things ( besides Red Rock, Silverthorne Casino Aquarium) You run out of things to do quick.
Hey, a plus side is you can get to LA in 4 hours and hang out at the beach for a weekend!
Oh yeah, the Buffet's are way over priced. If you want awesome food for cheap, check out Ellis Island. It;s an old casino, you can get PRIME RIB there for 10 bucks! That was the best part of Vegas ( and 24 hour Mexican food on Flamingo blvd)

24. I love you guys a TMZ but where in God's green earth are you going with this topic? My bestfriend shot herself in one of the hotels in Vegas 3 years ago. Choose your topics wisely. You never know who you are going to offend. This topic is senseless!!! Are you trying to be funny??? Because I don't think her mom would find this topic amusing.....
You guys can be jerks sometimes......

25. Dear Summerlin resident, My mom moved to vegas right after my pops died. we are from chicago, she moved to vegas in 2002. She is not on drugs or is shet any type of abuser. Any way she moved down there because he bestfriend lives there and the climate is better for her arthiritis, ashma. Any way, she survived the first year. She lived off what my dad left. She worked around 6 different jobs in 1 years time because the companies were out of cash or "relocated". She always gambled a litlle but the temptation out there is rediculous. Yeah, no one forced her there, but she went, lost, won alittle, lost, lost ,lost.;lost.......Now shes broke,She lives on fixed income, and help from family. After a year your town ate her up. Vegas sux a#$. Her health has deteriated rapidly and we are in the process of moving her back to chicago

I enjoyed it the first two times I came to visit. I went to the strip, played a few slots, drank. The third time I went ,i wanted to come back to chi town soooo bad. Now it's like a punishement to go to vegas. Alot of vegans are pure whackos, idiots. ( i work at a brokerage firm and my clients that are from vegas are quite, let me say "special"Vegas is the true sin city. Stank hoes, casinos, cheap drinks, hot like hell, nothin to do but gamble, the neighborhoods suck, most of the people there moved there because they failed elsewhere. Vegas is most fuhkd up city besides detroit. It's ver well known vegas is the sucide capital and I can see why. Every time I visit I heare of someone jumping out of one of those perty hotels out thea!

26. Lets all listen to TMZ jump on the bandwagon they are so right! Wrong!!! Blaming Las Vegas for someones death is so wrong like LA. is better? The News here said it was cus of them being Forclosed on in June. just think of all the people out there trying to fighting keep what they have. it will only get worse. So Don't Blame Vegas get it right TMZ.

27. Vegas is awesome. If you abuse drugs, alcohol or gamble your savings away, sure it can cause suicidal thoughts I guess. For the rest of us, it's a fun escape and there is no place better. The shows are amazing, there is great food, out-of-this-world art & the pools are wonderful, especially at the hard rock. I LOVE VEGAS!!!!!!!!!!

28. Seriously. I'm sure the LV Convention & Visitor's Authority think you're just killing tourism with this story. But then again, we do have that infamous slogan, "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas", so maybe there's something to that survey afterall. NOT!
