FOX11 in LA is saying the fire is about two miles from Oprah's estate.

UPDATE 4:51 AM PT: According to their reps, Oprah and Rob Lowe's homes haven't been affected. Lowe wasn't staying there last night. Fire sources tells us at least 100 houses are now in flames, and the blaze has spread to nearly 2500 acres.

17. Well of course the fire didn't get Oprah's house...God, mother nature, royalty and pretty much everything to include Steadman are not allowed to mess with the O. Rob Lowes house didn't burn down because the fire just like people are afraid of being molested by him.

19. Hurrah for #13. Lets think of all the underpaid firefighters who are laying their lives on the line to protect the homes of the worthless celebrities who could easily replace those homes. (And probably wouldn't even stop to talk to a lowly firefighter if one spoke to them on the street.) And the poor animals and habitats that will now lack food as we enter the winter.. Lets see if the Hollywood trash residents open up their wallets to help. Or are we just there to serve them. Let their houses burn.

21. I could care less about over paid, attention seeking money wasting idiots. When a person who works hard for a living and spends the only money they have towards things that matter, like food, clothing and shelter loses their home, then I'll care.

22. Man, there are some pathetic people out there! Jealous much? Where do we start???
Karma??? For what? Not voting for the guy you support? For all their dirty tactics and other actions, McCain, Palin, and all their supporters suffered the real "karma", LOSING THE ELECTION! Even if Oprah's house DOES burn down, she'll just collect the insurance and buy another one. I'm sure she has several more homes she can use in the interim. All of these people taking glee in the misfortune of others better hope "karma" doesn't strike their little pathetic miserable bitter lives. Unlike Oprah, that "karma" would sting a million times worse.

24. You people with the Karma crap obviously lack mental capacity.

Have you thought about all the other people that live here? FYI, this fire is pretty close to where many low income families live. Even the millionaires who live in the affected areas don't deserve it.
Some people are better off than others ...that's how life is in a capitalist country.

26. I don't wish this on anyone, however, I am disgusted with the fact that the news is mainly focusing on the movie stars instead of the other people. As previously mentioned, at least these actors and actresses can replace their homes and most of them have multiple homes anyway. I'm not jealous in the least. If I had the money, I wouldn't dare buy a house with umpteen bedrooms and bathrooms... what's the point ESPECIALLY when there are only 1 or a couple of people living in the home. I think it's pathetic and sickning. I'd like to start hearing about other average people and how they are making out.Once again, not wishing it on them, but I think they have plenty of money to take care of themselves in this situation.. they won't be stuck in a shelter until things are figured out.

27. I am just appalled at the nastiness of some of the posters on here!! Jealousy, envy, and vindictiveness prevail! What is the matter with most of you!? NO ONE deserves to lose their homes to a fire, not even celebrities. And to the poster who said that celebrities always seem to escape, that is just not true! There are countless celebrities who have died in auto accidents, plane crashes, drownings, fires, murders...you name it, it has happened to many of them. This article was wrong on one point. Rob Lowe WAS home with his children. I just read a statement by him. He was watching tv with his son when his wife called to alert him. He said the wind was 70 miles an hour and the flames around his house were 200 feet high. His house was spared, although it is obvious most of you wish it hadn't been. Shame on those of you who are so cruel and heartless.

and building a fire/quake resistant home.

the ones that burn the quickest are fancy redwood models.
