There is another cool feature to Google Maps (besides trying to find yourself on a satellite photo) -- checking to see if your house burned to the ground!

The CEO of Google, Eric Schmidt, bought this $20 million estate back in 2007. The four bedroom, four bath home, sits on four acres of land (yes, $5 million per bedroom/bathroom).

The road Schmidt lives on has been closed and the area is part of the mandatory evacuation zone.

I don't own a home in New Orleans because it sits below sea level. I don't live right on the coast because it's subject to hurricanes, And, if you don't want your house to burn, southern California is a bad idea also.

Number six is somewhat wrong. After Hurricane Katrina we were able to find updated photos of our area within a few weeks of the hurricane. I have no idea if this is something they only do in times of disaster or what, but we did find updated photos. . .destruction in all. . .that's how we knew they were up to date. When I left New Orleans, I had a roof. When I looked at photos on Google Earth, I did not.

This story could be misleading. The Google satellite photo of my house is not current. How do i know that? A boat in the photo in my driveway is covered with a particular covered tarp - we haven't had that boat for a long time. Also, in winter the photo is from summertime because it is green and the trees are really full.

It would be really awesome if it was live, though.

Harvey's Cup Must Go:  1186 days ago

No Google's maps are not in real time and in fact they are not even updated regularly. But the fact the guy is the CEO of Google I am sure he can watch real time or close to real time if he wants. You figure the satellite is still orbiting and it is only a matter of turning it on and snapping a few pictures. But this is not the real issue, Harvey's cup must go, I mean does he wash it out, is that the same straw from last time? Come on Harvey get some class, drink your coffee from a mug like everyone else!

I don't see why he would be worried. He was one of Obama's biggest supporters. Just ask for a bigger handout!!!!
