Oprah and Lowe -- Hot Properties

Assuming fires don't ravage them, Oprah Winfrey and Rob Lowe have some pretty nice houses in Montecito to return home to.

Oprah purchased her 14,000 square foot house back in 2001 for a reported $55 million. It features six bedrooms and 14 bathrooms. Lowe's $25 million estate sits on a 242,193 square foot lot.

Thus far, the fires haven't reached either home. Fire knows better than to mess with O.

31.

To #10, who writes : "I am standing behind all my black sisters we are taking over ."

And I am standing behind all my white sisters, and also behind all my Jewish sisters, and there is no way we are letting you to take over. NO WAY.

Want to be equal to us? You are welcome.

34. Hey #7, Lowe already has tried to trade her in - just ask the former Nanny who sued him for sexual harassment, and who he now is trying to drag through the dirt.

As for Lowe's comments about this being like "Armaggedon"...Rob, you ain't seen nothing yet. Lots of good stuff loaded on that Karma train running your way. PS - You too David "The Nanny liked Black Guys and please pass me some(ones) Liver" Crosby.

35. How can that compound only have 6 bedrooms? that can't be right.

36. What everyone here fails to realize is that MANY people who choose to become actors, actresses or television personalities are “the show off” type, couple that with an enormous ego, and you’ll quickly see why they choose to buy these silly homes (King needs a castle sorta thing). They gain some sort of good-feeling by purchasing theses ridiculously huge and expensive homes. Folks who come from nothing, and make something (or in Oprah’s case, tons of somethings) tend to want the world to know that they have MADE IT to the big time. They want to tell everyone that they have left the naysayers, haters and ordinary folks in the dust fighting to keep their 9-5, while they enjoy paying the $204,250 a month (on a $35mil home, I split the dif, then added 5mil for insurance, taxes, design, security, maintenance and house crew) . They want to tell everyone that they didn’t just get lucky, but it was their superior intelligence, work ethic and talent that propelled them forward (some of that is true, but mostly its luck and showing up).
If we had the cash- Most of us here would not enjoy living in these museums. Sure, we’d take a large, well decorated home with privacy and land to spare- but would you REALLY enjoy living in a house that was 6-8 times larger than any ordinary house on your block? If you live in a house, chances are, you spend your time in three rooms, what would anyone (without a very large fam) use 10- 20 huge unoccupied rooms/ bathrooms for? Answer: They don’t! I have visited several of these “estates” only to find out its owners only LIVE in a small corner of the house, many times they have no idea how many bedrooms, houses, maids, kids, cars they have. People talk about being self-centered, you have no idea! Out of the six people I know that own these childish palaces, four of them told me how “important they were in the biz” BEFORE they told me their names!

The sad truth is that anyone who buys and lives in these huge compounds usually feels the need to prove something to someone- including themselves.
However, they earned it, so they should be able to so spend it however they want, but a 14,000 sqft. -55mil home speaks volumes about its owner. (Esp. when the average home price in the country is what they spend monthly!) (Just the maintenance costs on a place like that would break any of us, or anyone we know! maybe everyone we know- combined!)
_ So unless you make your money from buying/selling/ maintaining these huge estates.
Simply disregard!

37. With all the fires in California, you'd think they'd make it illegal to have trees near houses. Just saying.

38. Well Pam, the tree prisons are overcrowded, and they never show up for their community service sentences, so they have stopped busting them for now.

39. to #10 What do you mean --you are taking over ? The last time I heard of anyone taking over was God , He is the only one who can take over . And he is going to take over sooner then we think.

40. I can't believe what I am hearing, no one deserves to have their home burned down... is is a disaster for the people in California. How about the people of New Orleans? I didn't hear people being racist then, nor did I hear negative thoughts saying those people deserved to have Katrina cause such a disaster. My God, have a littel empathy for others. And what ever kind of money they have, they worked for it. I am not a Oprah or Rob Lowe fan, but I certainly wouldn't want their homes to burn to the ground. How about the other mansions in the area that did burned? The only difference there is we don't know owned the homes. THe media is not covering that. Is there skin black, white, indian, asian, etc., and who cares ? They are still Gods children. I think we should all say a prayer for the people of California to keep them safe.

I think many should stop and think before opening their mouths.... example #10 and others who are racist.
