The Day The Music Television Died

Since "Total Request Live" will officially be defunct after tonight's final episode, MTV should consider changing its name to "Real World/Road Rules Challenge Reruns TV."

Just a suggestion.

46. Thank God it's over. They didn't know what videos were for the longest time.
We need to bring videos back!

48. Watch FUSE channel. It Rocks! They play videos all the time! MTV knows what they need to do to save the network. They are obviously not willing to do it.

49. TRL was still on??? wow! I didn't know that. everytime I flipped to mtv it was always that stupid real world crap so I gave up watching mtv long ago I think the last time I watched TRL Daly and Burton were hosting some of the shows they have on there now are just free cheesy porn I will watch the last TRL but after that I am thinking bout blocking mtv

50. #15 I dont think the MTV generation even has an idea of who Todd Rundgren is. Although Utopia came out in 74 or so? I remember 1979 very well and I played it until it wore out. MTV ushered in crap that was all fluff and no substance..other then a few stand out bands since 81 has anything stood out? Nope.

51. No, MTV died when TRL was started! Maybe one day there will be a music station that actually shows music instead of fake reality tv.

52. It is a big cycle we are nearing the end of. Give it 5 more years and the public will tire of the ever more thin plotted reality shows. I don't understand why MTV would drop TRL though. I imaged that TRL was MTV's bread and butter show, its survived through all the changes and I wouldn't have expected it to not last through this. Maybe it is also a sign of the dieing music industry.
I honestly think there are lots of bad choices being made. We really need to look at Europe and witness how there counterparts are handling things; much better and entertaining.

53. MTV used to be the launching off point for so many artists. Now all the music sounds mixed from the same sources, nothing is original at all. Instead of inspiring with great visuals and sounds, it teached teens its' cool to be mindless and shallow. They demand to wear over priced clothing just because some "personality" on a fake TV show does.. Most wouldn't know decent music to save thier lives. So sad....an entire generation following trends set by idiots like Paris Hilton and the like.

54. STOP WATCHING THIS GARBAGE. MTV will be around as long as there are brain-dead asshats out there watching it.

55. MTV and VH1 veered off course years ago. How does marathons of America's Next Top Model end up on these channels?
I do like some of the reality shows but I don't like having them forced down my throat. Please music television come back to the light.

56. MTV has been garbage for years, way before TRL. Problem is, kids these days are idiots and will think anything on TV is cool. How the hell do you explain the bassist, THE BASSIST, of a crappy band like Fallout Boy to get on TV as much as he does.

57. TRL Sucks! Because of TRL we live in a world with Brittney Spears, Carson Daly and Justin Timberlake. TRL help explode pop and thats why American Idol is so sucessful. TRL Sucks and so does pop!

59. i remember when our cable company picked up MTV the first video they showed was Cyndi Laupers "girls just want to have fun" and there wasn't any sound but my friends and I were still glued to the tv. Sad that it has turned into a trash channel. Bring back the music videos, who the hell cares what LC is gonna whine about next. I sure as h*** could care less who Paris Hiltons next BFF is gonna be or who Johnny Bananas is gonna run t hrough the ringer next...

60. Why doesn't the music video still have the same appeal as it once did? I don't mean the "performance videos" where what is shown is just the band or artist playing. I mean the ones where the video explains the songs lyrics through acting them out.
