McCain: Jackson Browne Used Me!

John McCain claims kook-rocker Jackson Browne pitched a fit over the candidate's use of the song "Running on Empty" for one reason -- to make sure Browne's new album won't be running on empty.

Jackson sued John back in August over the Prez-seeker's use of his song in an Ohio campaign ad about gas prices. Now, McCain's lawyers filed a response, saying Jackson complained so he could get press to promote his new album, which came out a month later.

J-Mac also makes the argument he could use the tune whenever and where he wants because he was running for Prez, not trying to make a buck off it. If the court buys this "political speech as public interest" claim, it pretty much means curtains for a bunch of other musicians who were PO'd about their songs being used by the GOP.

32. Jackson Browne during his peak was good; unfortunately, ,most of his songs sound the same....I lost alot of respect for him when he was a arrested for assault on his female significant other which I though was Dayrl Hannah.

33. "Kim, next time start by carefully inserting your finger into your rectum, and gently pushing your brain to one side before inserting the suppository"

not sure what you're even trying to say here, but thanks i'll give it a try! i wont apologize for being angry at 8 years of criminals in MY white house, and almost 2 years of mccain/GOP lies---it's called being a TRUE patriotic american, as opposed to a braindead, FOX-believing non-thinker!

34. The point here is not about whether you like Jackson Browne's music or not. It is about a presidential candidate who violated copyright laws. Browne was not the only artist who sued or ordered "cease and desist" requests, as they preferred not to be associated with MCCain in any way.

Imagine your face or commentary used to endorse something / someone who violated your core principals and beliefs.

35. Bands can't stop their music from being played over PAs at public events, like political rallies. Not as long as the royalty is paid to the songwriter.

Commercials are another thing.

36. You make the art (the music) and put it out for all to enjoy and make $$ off it. Anyone can use it dummy!

37. Those of you critical of Jackson Browne regarding this issue are completely ignorant of his music and many social activities exhibited in the span of his career! Throughout Browne's entire life he has: Challenged the Extreme Right, Demonstrated for Anti-Nuclear Weapons, Promoted the Preservation of Nature, etc... in "song" and in his actions. In this particular campaign, McCain WAS everything that Jackson Browne ever protested! War, Weapons, Bombs, and Right Wingers! For the campaign to use HIS music without permission was an extreme affront to his beliefs... REGARDLESS of whether there was an "album" coming out or not! There wer additional musicians (Springsteen, etc...) who also protested and challenged the GOP's pompous disregard for the songwriter's permission! You Go Jackson Brown and anyone else who stands up to anti-social philosophies/! For those of you who complain... sorry about your candidates tragic loss! Boo Hoo!

38. Not really a fan of Jackson Browne, but it is HIS music and HE has the right to decide what it gets associated with. I am even more extra glad McCain didn't win now.

39. Sorry, if people get tapped for illegally downloading songs - how is this different. Jackson Browne isn't washed up either. But, oops John McCain is. Washed up and out of the picture.

41. Jakcson Browne has been a social activist for years and stands for everything John McCain does not!! McCain should have gotten permission to use his music, just like anyone else, at the very least as a courtesy! Surely JB wouldn't have given permission and would not want his music used in any way to promote the candidacy of McCain. That is his right! This IS the USA isn't it?

42. Among Jackson Brown for "Running on Empty" and Heart "Barracuda", there were about a half dozen musical groups that whined when the republicans used their music. Zero for the Democrat Obama. This is why I despise Democrats. They are not for a United country. They Just hate people you oppose their socialistic views so much that that are always willing to sue, whine, bitch, take to court, protest, whatever it takes to show their hatred. McCain was not a Conservative and should have never represented the Republican party. But he was dignified and had class. He should have pounded on Rev Wright but he didn't. Something the democrats never ever display. Democrat character is one step above manure. The Prop 8 protests are a prime example. Don't like the voters results? Protest and take it to a liberal court. No Class, just manure.

Thank God your candidate lost! If you represent a typical McCain advocate, we may have been spared the greatest disaster our generation has ever faced - "Revenge of The Wandering Clueless!!"

44. Taylor8ten - Talk about complete ignorance, yours is spewing out of your ass like projectile diarrhea. You say Browne "Demonstrated for Anti-Nuclear Weapons". Maybe your referring to his anti-nuclear organization, Musicians United for Safe Energy, that was opposed to nuclear POWER PLANTS. Thankfully, Browne and friends got bored and moved on to some other sandbox. And the result of this effort?......Nothing. Extreme Right,? War, Weapons, Bombs, and Right Wingers? World War 2, the Korean War and the Vietnam War were Democratic Wars, and the bomb and weapon count for those 3 wars? Do the math. And the service was not volunteer. You got drafted and sent. Even against your will. Democratic.

I don't care who you were "for" in the election or if you can even vote. I do believe Obama will do the best job he can. I also believe you spent your history classes under your desk sniffing your 3 day old underwear trying to get high. So, Boo Hoo, drip.

AnnaLise, the greatest disaster your generation will ever face is you. You're a boob. Now go back to school and save yourself.
