The 68-year-old loose cannon resurfaced at some event, looking like she could use a gay best friend.

After a boycott of orange juice was started due to the negative publicity surrounding her political campaigning, Anita's contract with the Florida Citrus Commission was not renewed. In 1998, Miami re-authorized an ordinance protecting individuals from discrimination based on sexual orientation.

Despite being a devout evangelical Christian, Anita divorced her first husband in 1980.

I think you're pretty safe as I'm sure someone of your same sex, whatever that may be thinks the same thing of you. Oh Yuck at the concept of you on anyone. I'm sure gays and lesbians have a little sigh of relief knowing that you are not one. The concept of you on anyone turns my stomach too.

19. She was not a devout christian if she was slurring hate speech everywhere. Christian's do not hate. Although we do believe the homosexuality is a sin, we do not hate on homosexuals for choosing that lifestyle, we just disagree with it. Anyone who considers themselves religious, except for the metropolitian church for obvious reasons, is and should be against homosexuality.

Homosexuality is not a choice, it's way of life. Why would that many people choose to have a way of life that is considered a sin by you fundamentalists and endure so much discrimination and bigotry? I'm gay and proud, but in earlier days would not have chosen this way of life. I'm happy now, gay is who I am, Not a choice, but pleased with the results.

I love how ignorant you are though on thinking its a choice. People have a lot to learn still. A lot, I pray for your enlightenment.

btw did you choose to be white? Did you choose to be straight? Did you choose to be male or female? No, you just are. Try to use that in understanding homosexuality a bit more.

Religion on the other hand is a choice and you choose to deem homosexuality as a sin. Lord help us. Praying for you TJ.

23. Anita Bryant was one of the first Christians to really show that hate and discrimination is the centerpiece of her religion (not counting the KKKer's from the 30's and 40's).

And she got her butt whipped for it.

As someone above said, I was sure that she would have been frying in Hell by now. Well, that'll come soon enough.

I'm a straight guy - married and fifty nine years old and a 60's kid who still finds it hard to accept prejudice to gays - when are you going to get it these human beings were born that way and yes it is different from most of us but it is a civil rights issue for the gay community to enjoy the same rights as straights by the Bill of Rights and the US Constitution. Besides, even if they were not "born that way" they should have a right to love whomever they wish regardless of sex. Isn't there already enough hate in the world to waste precious energy against people who choose to be different? I think so! These hateful people should direct their hate towards corporations who are poisoning our food with aspertame, bovine growth hormones and prosilac etc. - go have hate rallies to off these evil corporate men who are killing us all with the help of our lame government to enforce the right for real food!

28. The Mormon "church" is now learning what it means to take on the gays, just like Anita learned it in the 70s.

The Mormons shot themselves in the foot by spearheading and funding the defeat of Prop 8 and the fallout from their actions will haunt the cult for many years to come.
