Bail Set for Plaxico Burress

A judge set bail for Plaxico Burress at $100,000 today and a grand jury hearing has been set for March 31. He did not enter a plea.
Read the docs
The prosecutor had asked for a $250,000 bail due to the nature of the felony. His attorney argued that since Plax had a $35 million contract, he wasn't going anywhere. Apparently, the judge agreed.

According to court docs that detail what went down over the weekend, Plax was holding a drink in his left hand while fidgeting around his waistband with his right. A witness reported hearing a loud "pop" sound and Plax saying, "Take me to the hospital." His leg began to shake and a pistol fell out of his pant leg and onto the floor.

As for the illegal weapons charge, if convicted Plax could face as much as a 15-year prison sentence. His lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, told the judge the gun in question had been registered in Florida and even though Plax has a house in New Jersey, he spends half his time in the Sunshine State.

32. You know, it's a shame. We went to high school together and worked a part time job together. He was such a quiet person. He was outgoing but quiet too. He was always very friendly and was friends with everyone. I hope that whatever he is going through, he gets through it. He made it big and I'm still proud to say that he is a fellow "Stallion" and we went to school together. I haven't seen him in a few years, but I hope he comes out of this a better person. Celebrities go through some tough times. I'm not saying he should get away with it. No, he should not, but I hope he learns something from all of this. Best of luck to you "Plax" (as we know him) and keep your chin up. Life happens to us all, it's all in how you handle it that makes you a better person!!!!! Your fellow "Stallions" still support you.

33. Possessing a handgun in New York City without a concealed weapons license is illegal and has a mandatory 1-year prision sentence (remember Bernard Getz). But here's the greater question. Why does anybody that just signed a multi-million dollar contract with the NFL need to carry a gun into a club, period? Why wasn't Plaxico home resting for the Sunday game? If you ask me, these athletes should get paid a basic salary, say $250,000-$500,000 a year with performance bonuses, including off-the-field behavior. Any other compensation should come from endorsements. Gun toting thugs are not endorsement friendly.

If they can't set a good example, let them get a real job.
