Suspect in Hudson murders has long rap sheet

Raised by his mother and a godmother while his father served a prison sentence for murder, Balfour's record shows juvenile arrests dating to 1996 for marijuana possession and criminal trespass to a vehicle, then probation violations for arrests on the same counts.

His arrests and detentions got in the way of school, and he dropped out in the 10th grade. Placed in a group home in 1997, he stayed only a couple of months before returning to Chicago. He worked at low-paying jobs, one as a grill man in a Wendy's restaurant and another at a steakhouse salad bar.

Balfour and his brother both found drugs, with his brother serving time on a cocaine charge. In 1992, he joined the Gangster Disciples; his nickname was "Flex."

His most serious brush with the law came in 1998, when Balfour hopped in a Chevrolet Suburban and drove off. The owner, Charles Gardner, jumped on the vehicle to stop him, but Balfour stepped on the gas.

Balfour drove off with Gardner "hanging on top of it at a high rate of speed down an expressway, swerving and weaving in and out of traffic," according to records. He drove through red lights and intentionally hit a light pole, a fence and an iron gate, records say.

That led to a conviction for attempted murder and vehicular hijacking and landed Balfour in state prison for seven years. He walked out of prison in May 2006 and was placed on parole until May of next year.

51. There should be no mercy for any sub-human who would EVER harm a child. Let's hope that the convicted prisoners (i.e.:William's fellow inmates) will serve their own brand of justice. May his rectal cavity be plowed more thoroughly than a Buffalo N.Y. mainstreet during winter time. On the increasingly teeny, weeny chance this pathetic piece of sh*t "might" be innocent......I'll gladly wait for the criminal justice system and William's subsequent trial to take it's natural course. Though with all I've read, seen, and heard William's innocence is as about as real as Paris Hilton's virginity!
In the meantime let's nominate William's beloved Mom as "Excuse Maker" of the year! While it might be maternal instinct to blindly proclaim your child's innocence......please do not WASTE OUR F**KING TIME trying to convince us that William is an upstanding citizen. He has been CONVICTED of MANSLAUGHTER, plays around on three different women, and sucks off the hard earned tax dollars of law abiding citizens. So to William's Mommy I say......"SHAME ON YOU" for not practicing better birth control. My hope is that "Willie-Boy" will eventually have to have a colostomy bag because his anal cavity has been thoroughly trashed.

52. "Julia Hudson Won’t Let Go Of William Balfour--What’s That All About?"

There is so much more to the Hudson Family murders that make no sense whatsoever. Julia Hudson did not dump William Balfour as a “friend” on her My Space page and when that information was published in the media she simply made her page private.

More importantly, as of today Julia Hudson has not bothered to file for divorce from the ex-convict that is now in custody for killing her mother, son and brother. Call that what you will, but it is sick.

I have heard from sources close to the investigation all along that Julia Hudson has not been totally candid with detectives investigating this case.

Julia Hudson stood to make a financial windfall with the death of her entire family but for her talented sister Jennifer Hudson who has enjoyed newfound wealth. I must say something really smells here.

I agree Missy...CPD wake up the public would not go with this one..It a new day CHANGE has come...why frame this boy??/ This is a easy way out...Prosecutors are stupid on this case, if you think your going to convince the jury/public that he committed the crime in rage/jealousy....COME HARDER...Kupticak or wateva his attorney name is will destroy that motive....Why would it take damn near 2 months to say he was at the home the morning of the murders, and jason was shot upstairs, and julian was taking from the house...we all knew the same information CPD released the day of the murders...CPD is trying to get this over with and protect the hudson/king family from the truth, because they know the truth would destroy both families and jennifer's career.. Well jennifer sorry seems as if its destroy! AND Julia was the obsessed one stalking his myspace all the time so why would he be the jealous one...AND if this is the motive ppl , where do the girl from myspace come into play...the one that said Balfour asked if him and his boys could come and crash at her dorm....lol CPD are a bunch of fools, this man is going to walk..and Julia think she's slick, she figure if she post those new PICS of her new boo on her myspace page the public would buy into the prosecuters motive of her being with a new man.....BOLOGNA....LOL LOL ..there is so much more...wake up pll

54. Lauren - I agree, lots of stuff "really smells" here. This so called "motive" is so farfetched it doesn't even make sense to members of the general public who have been following the case, much less a court of law. Why would William be violently jealous of Julia's seeing another guy, since he himself had moved on, moved out, and moved IN with another girlfriend of his own, whith whom, we are told, he was expecting a baby? And, you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out that if you regret your separation from an "ex" and want to try to reconcile, murdering their immediate family is not the way to rekindle the spark of love.

A few other points to remember:

If police really had enough hard evidence to charge William Balfour with the actual murders, it wouldn't have taken more than a month to pull this together. Something else happened here....

I agree that it's possible that *someone* "cut a deal" with his girlfriend to cause her to come forth with her statements. But I don't think it was the Chicago Police Department. Sure, they'd like to see the case closed. But they know they're not likely to get that done based on the testimony of a "witness" with little credibility due to her own questionable motives. I think it's more likely that she was encouraged to do this by someone interested in framing William with the hope of diverting attention from some of the more unpleasant realities that may cause further distress and legal/financial problems to the surviving family members.

Everyone who's really been following this case knows that there were just TOO many things that happened AFTER William Balfour was already in custody to indicate that he was solely responsible for what happened between mid-morning Friday, October 24 (estimated time of death for Darnell and Jason) and 7 AM Monday, Oct. 27 (when Julian's body was found in Jason's SUV). Someone moved William's car from the Hudson family's block to the high school a few blocks away after William was already out of the area. Someone drive the white SUV around the Lawndale area all weekend, dumped the murder weapon in a vacant lot on Saturday afternoon, then left the SUV with Julian's remains inside parked in the area sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning when it was found.

If WE already know this, I think it's pretty safe to assume that William's attorney has figured it out also.

I think it's possible that William Balfour may have some information or ideas, or even direct knowledge communicated to him from others, about what really happened. The only possible motive that I can figure out for formally charging him at this point in time, knowing that the case is weak, is to surface other information during the trial that the police were either unable to discover, or ordered not to release publicly. (For instance, Julia's actual whereabouts throughout the day on October 24, before she called police to report finding her mother's body; the identity of the person who drove William's car to the high school area after he was already on the west side; the identity of the two men, spotted by several witnesses, who were driving the white SUV on Friday and Saturday, and dumped the murder weapon; and the approximate time of Julian's death).

There is no neat solution to this tragic puzzle.

55. If we are as concerned as we say, we want all the trash to burn that had an inkling about these crimes. Some of you speak of The charged as ugly, etc. but have you forgotten who is responsible for bringing this man in and making him legal family? They took too long to charge him, and it smells of someone who knew something telling and being promised immunity. They have a lot of questions to answer. If brother was shot through the door, did he then welcome the killer in. After the mother was shot, how did brother get upstairs, and if The child was home don't you think he would have been running out of the house screaming while the killer was upstairs killing the brother? Why was Julia with her ex-husband the night of her birthday? If he said he would kill, why put his mind at ease with a relationship and continue to see him even though he live with a pregnant girlfriend. Did CPD really look at the childs father, girlfriends, jilted lovers, druggies? And again I say CPD may have made a difference if they had protected that child when they knew drug dealing was going on. Well of course if they only charge the ex husband, that will save them man hours and make Jennifer think she is safe. If it is not certain why these people were killed, so should Julia or Jennifer breath a sigh of relief? If this little man did all this and was able to move evidence even from a jail cell, CPD need to hire him quick because he did better than they did with the illigal drug bust. Lets just hope that all responsible are punished.

While the possibility exists that Willie-Boy MIGHT be innocent the same possibility exists that little green men from Mars will land on the White House lawn to help Pres. Bush celebrate Christmas. It is a sad commentary on this world when the only "excuse" some whacked-out conspiracy nut can come up with is that the Chicago Police Dept. has gathered together to frame A CONVICTED MURDERER (that's what Manslaughter entails) whose only recent contribution to society is to collect welfare and food stamps while he spreads his "seed" amongst three different girls. Yeah this hunk of humanity really deserves our sympathies......NOT!!! Once all the FACTS come out you and your delusional friends can write Willie-Boy in Prison. You truly need to look at and UNDERSTAND the facts........not try and play the race card or destroy someone's reputation simply because they are famous and talented and have all their teeth and have a job.

58. Have to agree that this all doesn't make a lot of sense. The jealousy angle just doesn't ring true. Why would it take so long to find gunpowder residue in his car? When did it get there? Did they match it to anything? Who is the source of the threat report? My first thought was Julia, she was saying something like that much earlier but then partying with him made no sense.... And why the heck would he go to the police voluntarily? Why wouldn't he just hightail it out of there? I know y'all love to hate this guy, but I think it's reasonable to say there is a possibility of a frameup here. They need to look more closely at the brother Jason's associations outside of family connections.

Yes, I would refuse it anytime, anywhere. Lie detectors are notoriously unreliable and cannot prove innocence or guilt. Good liars can beat the test. Anxious people can give false positives, much as many people find their blood pressure rises in a doctor's office ("white coat syndrome") but not at home. Sorry, folks. The technology is seriously flawed.
