53. Well, Brits, no need to get your knickers in a bunch over this. We in the USA are not all illiterate, backwood, Jethro's....it just confounds us to understand the reason for Royalty and the grandiocity of it all. I know I was taught in school about the constitutional monarchy, parlimentary system, the influence on our Declaration of Independence by the Magna Carta etc...but seriously, we can't relate to the "figure-head-adulation-just-due-to-birth" thingy! Especially after those tampon tapes from Prince Charles..really, what respect can we have after that?

It was cool that QEI stayed in London during WWII, but I still don't get their function? I guess it is a morale booster for you citizens?? Still not getting it..and don't come back at me with awful American crap..you KNOW the UK has long been the biggest imperialists since the Roman Empire.

56. Just imagine, some public figure who isn't a petty creep! She must not be an American. I can't imagine why the English still have the Royalty around, but at least Elizabeth the person acts with dignity and has a high, if not extremely high IQ that she puts to public service around the world. There's something to be said for taking a longer term view of public service than the typical American 4-year term, which in realistic terms means a 2-year term of activity, between the 2-year long election campaigns.

Just IMAGINE what could be done if all that energy wasn't wasted on constant election campaigns and not wasted on the promotion and defence of parties.

We Americans will just never get iit. They have a Prime Minister for the politics job. Jeeze, man, you sound really dumb! The Queen is Your Majesty and Prince Philip (or Prince Consort) is His Royal Highness or HRH.

60. Actually she's the Monarch of sixteen countries including Canada, Australia and Jamaica, as well as being head of the Commonwealth of Nations (more than 50 countries) - so she's fairly busy (and cost effective).
