Dixie Chick Maines Sued for Loud Mouth

Dixie Chick Natalie Maines can't keep her mouth shut about a trio of murders in 1993 -- and now she's being hauled into court for allegedly placing the rap on a guy whose stepson was one of the victims.

The inveterate Bush-basher -- and her bandmates -- has been sued in Arkansas by Terry Hobbs, whose then-8-year-old stepson Steve Branch was killed back in 1993 along with two other boys. But, as reports say, Maines is singled out in court papers.

Hobbs has never been charged or implicated in the murders -- three other men were convicted -- but Maines has been outspoken in her belief Hobbs was involved.

Hobbs says in the suit he's lost income and reputation, and that Maines' claims are "so extreme in degree as to be ... atrocious and utterly intolerable." The band couldn't be reached for comment.

16. The WM3 are wrongfully imprisoned. She isn't saying anything that even the father of one of the other boys is saying. There are three young men who were wrongfully convicted while the killer, be he Terry Hobbs (highly likely based on evidence) or not, runs free. She is not the only celebrity to speak out on this matter. She is just the one he has chosen to go after. Henry Rollins has been outspoken about it for years. This really isn't about Natalie Maines alone... This boils down to reality and the reality is Terry Hobbs has some serious explaining to do and he needs to be looked at more closely. The three boys who have become men in prison deserve to be free to live their lives rather than imprisoned for something they didn't do.

Those boys were railroaded into prison because they wore black clothes and listened to freaking Nine Inch Nails for God's sake. I'm from the South, but I'm ashamed that such small-minded bigotry and fear mongering still exists.

P.S. I'm from the South, and ashamed by some of the ignorant folks that "represent" me. That type of sentiment is what got Natalie in hot water in the first place. If you can't speak your mind, what the F is the Constitution for?

22. For all of you yammering about "freedom of speech"......Defamation is not protected under "Freedom of Speech" in our Constitution. The wrong people may very well be in jail, but that does not give Maines, or anyone else, the right to damage someone's reputation. Maines could lose this case. In order to win, she has to prove that she is telling the truth. That might be kind of difficult considering there has not been any evidence to convict.

Think twice before you defame someone if you can't prove it to be true AND done without malice. You are NOT protected under "freedom of speech". The person you are attacking has rights, too.

In 2007, DNA collected from the crime scene was tested. None was found to match DNA from Echols, Baldwin, Misskelley nor John Mark Byers.[43] In addition, a hair from Terry Hobbs, stepfather to Stevie Branch, was found tied into the knots used to bind the victims.[44][45] The prosecutors, while conceding that no DNA evidence ties the accused to the crime scene, has said that, "The State stands behind its convictions of Echols and his codefendants."[46]

On October 29, 2007 papers were filed in federal court by Damien Echols' defense lawyers seeking a retrial or his immediate release from prison. The filing cited DNA evidence linking Terry Hobbs (stepfather of one of the victims) to the crime scene, and new statements from Hobbs' now ex-wife. Also presented in the filing is new expert testimony that the "knife" marks on the victims were the result of animal predation after the bodies had been dumped.[47][1]

maybe his frivolous lawsuit will be all that's necessary to reopen this case.

26. Oh come on, anyone familiar with the case knows hobbs has been named publicly for a few years now. Not just by maines but people everywhere. Even on CNN!! He just picked Maines because of the money potential he could get! That crazy dad, Mark Byers didn't sue anyone for being accused for so many years. Now its hobb's turn.

27. For whoever said something about the dad having his teeth removed and wife dying, this isn't the father suing. That father was Mark Byers. The one who is suing is Terry Hobbs. Different dad.... Apparently Byers is now a big supporter of the West Memphis Three and Byers has publicly accused Terry Hobbs. But its Maines (i'm not a fan of her, nor country music) hobbs is suing. Why don't he go after byers too and the rest of the people who believe he did it?

I read up on this crime and what was done was just sickening. The indvidual(s) who did this deserve to fry in hell for what they did.
