"The Hills" Is, Like, Totally Whitewashed

There's a reason why BET had to come up with their own version of "The Hills" called "Baldwin Hills" -- not a single one of the main "characters" of LC's show is black.

Lauren Conrad: Click to watch
We asked her how it's possible she has no black friends -- No LC, it wasn't a trick question.

31. 2.5 is not right. Not in any of our lifetime have black people been discriminated against. The only reason the word "racism" is still in use is because black people continue screaming it. Nobody is excusing what happened in the past, but it is just that... in the past. Black people are not kept out of college (by anyone but them) or out of beauty pageants. Haven't been for half a century. The primary racists these days are people of color. They are the ones pointing out the difference, not us. They want to be "different" and seperate and receive special treatment. It is called reverse rasicm.

33. All too common in LA LA Land. That's why I DON'T watch racist TV!

34. wow..first of all, LC's friend selection is her business
apart from that, those of you making comments about "the stuff black people get away with" or no white entertainment tv shows or pageants, college funds..etc
why don't you go research history and find out why those came into existence.
Same reason there are Black/Hispanic sororities/fraternities or Black Studies, Asian American Studies, Chicano Studies departments at your university...but judging from your ignorant comments, I'd say you never even stepped foot in college. I've heard a few idiots say "Why isn't there White Studies ? Step foot in any Western Civ class and you will get your WHITE STUDIES..without it having that label.
Turn on MOST TV stations and you will get your white entertainment Television
And I can go on and on.
A big reason we are not making the progress we need is because people like you don't give a damn and don't know what happened in the past and you just want to move on! You need to study history because it's definitely connected to our present..not something we need to just forget about because it happened in the past.
Obama being elected President doesn't magically wipe ignorance away.

35. There are many ethic group of people not on the Hills, what's your point?

Posted at 6:41PM on Dec 24th 2008 by jaye

36. OMG, y'all are missing the whole damn point! The point is is that this dummy couldn't answer the question because she didn't know how to because this is supposed to be her real life. So does she say "I don't have any black friends" or does she say "MTV didn't cast any black people" ? TMZ did this to confuse her! Because her show is as fake as Holly Madison's face! Come on people!

38. ON Laguna Beach, there was a black girl, not the LB that LC was on. She was half black I think. It was the LB that was only on for one season, that cast. Where LC's sister Brianna was on it, and the girl was named like Kimmy or something? Anyone remember that? So yeah, it is all fake but......I think they also at the same time pick out people that live in the area of Laguna for the show LB.....and the Hills is just an extension of it.

39. I watch the Hills and love the show. I am so glad that TMZ pointed out that there are no people of color. Some of these so call friends are planted. I have read some of the commnents and its really sad that black people ( if they are black) think its cool that there are no blacks on the show. I love the stlye , look and class of the people on the show. I definitely want to see black people just like Lauren that are beautiful and rich doing exciting things on the show. Oh yeah! making the money and becoming famous too. There are so many black young people that fit the mold of these young people that would love to be in the same boat as the Hill characters. Yes there are black people who are just like the classy characters on the Hill. Tiger Woods is one that identify with white rich people for example. Vanessa Williams is another. I just like to see a good thing a cross the board. I am a fan , just happen to be black and would love to see blacks that are beautiful and rich added to the show. You cant tell me that these people wouldnt meet people of color in LA or the fashion industry. My vote is spread the opportunities.

40. You have to blame MTV for the lack of black people, Not Lauren, as much as I dislike her. MTV puts who they want on there, she just does what she is told. The girl is an actress (not a very good one), this isn't her life. This is possibly some people she knew from Laguna like I said, but that's it. And if she knew them from Laguna, she might only know them because of the show, they might have all went to different schools, Some private, some public. But the black girl on Season 3 of Laguna Beach was named Cami. I just looked her up. Lauren's sister Breanna was on that season.

41. #38...are you serious? classy people on the hills? OKAY...
1) the show is FAKE, scripted, memorized..however you want to say it
2)nothing classy about those people...money does not buy class
3) I'm sure people who have class would not appear on the Hills and go that route to stardom...
and I don't think Tiger Woods and Vanessa Williams (hard workers) appreciate you comparing them to the "CLASS ACTS" on the hills
I just reallly hope that was one big sarcastic post and not something you truly believe.

42. Perhaps there are no black peeps on "The Hills" because it's a reality show and maybe they don't have close black friends. Or should they fake it to be politically correct and have some distant black friends just to satisfy the ones who think this is racist! BET stands for Black Entertainment Television--hmm...what would be said if there was WET-standing for White Entertainment Television---NEVER IT WOULD HAPPEN! Also the Hills is a spin-off from Laguna Beach..now how many black peeps do you know that actually desire the beach life or live in a beach community?? Oh, and remember, the Cosby's didn't have white friends on the show and Baldwin Hills have only black people on that show but whites don't complain. Just be fair about it and stop trying to start crap over something that has no intention of being racially motivated. Oh, what about the United Negro College Fund--imagine if there was the United Caucasion College Fund?
Oh, and i'm not white nor black--this is just an objective view point.

43. OMG!! There are no black people on the Hills? So what! Do we have some kind of "friend quota" now?

Hmm....so if I have three close girlfriends, five arms length girlfriends, four male friends, two very close male friends, how many black friends do I have to add to this equation? Give me a break and quit shoving black people down white peoples throats! A "friend" is just that. a "friend."

44. #40, Objectively speaking you are ignorant.
Pls refer to post 33.
Look, there need not be a channel called WET or a a fund called white college fund...BET was established BECAUSE every other channel was a WET channel..(without them being named WET)
While white parents had the financial means to send their kids to college (WHITE FUNDS inherited) black parents did not..they did not and could not afford to set up a college fund for their kids the same way white parents could.
Same way other things were established as I mention in my post in #33.
Before you start giving your objective opinion, make sure you do your objective research.
Just because you are not white, you do not have a pass to be ignorant.

45. So by statements made that all networks are White entertainment and all awards shows are white award shows and all world civ classes are White studies. I seem to remember many African Americas winning Emmys and Oscars and even MTV awards. I also seem to remember many African Americans and Latinos on many of the so called white networks. But I have never witnessesd a White person win an award at a Black award show or at a Latino award show and there are no blond white chicks strutting there stuff on the Miss Black America stage. And while its been awhile since I have been in world civ I do remeber learning many things about America that wasnt just about White America. I think at some point people need to stop saying we enslaved you I didnt enslave anyone and nor did my parents or even their parents. It is unfair to make me pay for what my anscestors did to your ancestors judge me on what I did to you. White America didnt come to America and have it easy either so yeah in past White America mistreated the African American community and the Native American Community, but I ask and not in a disrespectful way where would this world be now if we could change history and there was no slavery? I make this point because I dont think there is any race that has not suffered in order to make America what it is. And while I as a White American am not proud of what my very distant ancestors did I am also not proud of this society in which White America is so willing to back down so we don't look racist we are getting walked all over. This world is not easy for anyone and everyone needs to just make the best of things and be fair to people around them and I don't think specified channels for African Americans or college funds is fair if places are being sued right now so we can't have ladies nights at places because thats unfair ( and women were oppressed too) then all special treatment should end including special channels, special college funds, affirmative action and special award shows.
