R.I.P.
Eartha No Longer of This Eartha

Eartha Kitt -- the legendary actress, singer and dancer -- died yesterday of colon cancer. She was 81.

Kitt was perhaps best known for her role as Catwoman on 60s TV series "Batman" -- a role that was later played with diminishing success by Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry.

She recently won back-to-back Daytime Emmy awards for Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program for the show "The Emperor's New School."

19. They won't change the headline. TMZ ridicules even the dead, and if a person was older then they especially enjoy having fun with the ageism comments. Tacky and disrespectful=TMZ

20. RIP Eartha. To the idiots who only have snide and rude comments to make, keep in mind you'll be old one day and none of us knows what the future holds for us. We all reap what we sow.

24. What a crappy way to announce the death of a legendary icon. Shame on you! While you're not known for being particularly classy, this was low even for you. Ms. Kitt (and her family and friends) deserved much more respect from you. This is trashy even by rag sheet standards.

28. A fabulous entertainer is gone, but her legacy remains.

I saw Eartha in 1993 at the Colony Theater in South Beach. She was very dazzling surrounded by the usual court of young hunks lifting her up and down or caressing her over the "ottoman" she loved to have on stage. I had met her while working as a Chef de Rank at "Regines, Miami" in the mid 80s and her wonderful personality impacted me. "Where's my man" was the hit everywhere, so I became her admirer not missing any of the videos of her performances around the world ever.

The friend who went to the theater with me in 1993 and became her fan from that today on, saw her again a few months ago when she returned to The Colony. He noticed she looked fragile but had that great charm on the stage and the powerful voice. Cancer was consuming her already, but she never stopped working.

Long Live Eartha Kitt. We will continue enjoying her videos of "Just an Old Fashioned Girl", "C'est ci bon", "Champagne Taste", "Love for Sale" and other great songs that became a symbol of sexiness on stage for female impersonators and females alike.
