Shirley Jones' Hubby Caught on Surveillance Tape

We're told Burbank cops are investigating whether Shirley Jones' hubby, comedian Marty Ingels, shoplifted at a local hat store. We have the surveillance video, so judge for yourself.

Play video
You see Marty inside Baron Hats. Marty came in with a hat on his head and had several spec hats he had brought to the store for sizing. You see THE HAT he allegedly stole (worth $500) sitting on the counter (red arrow). Marty puts the hat he was wearing, along with a piece of paper, on top of THE HAT.

A short time later, Marty returns to the counter to speak with the clerk and grabs the spec hats. That's when Marty makes his move. He picks up the hat he wore into the store. Then he puts the spec hats on top of THE HAT and beats a hasty retreat -- so quickly, he forgets his cane.

16. Wow... Mary Ingels has gone downhill fast. First she went blind, then her husband got his sight back, then the blind school burned down, now she's posing as a man and stealing hats. Life on the prairie must have been hard.

Proofread, you idiots.

17. Now that sounds like something a blonde with hormone-induced brain fog would do. Accidentally, of course! Believe me, I know whereof I speak....

22. Give the man a break. He is not suddenly at his older age, going to start shop-lifting when he can buy the whole store.
He got confused, had something on his mind. I even walked out of a new restaurant without paying after a couple of mins I wondered if I had paid, and had to go back and pay, plus apologize. I was upset about something else. It happens at sometime to everyone.

24. They have specialty hat shops? And people go to them? Huh.

25. Anyone who says- "he was confused" is stupid. That was very deliberate. He waited for the clerk to walk away and then STOLE the hat. How many times has he done it? Thats just sick. People should really look down upon that sort of behavior- it does hurt all of us.

26. First off I do not care if he did it or not, but you can clearly see that this video tape is missing sections and we are not seeing the entire thing. So TMZ....where is the rest of it, then I will pass my judgement on the man.

27. Mary is lawsuit happy in his old age, good grief, is that what he does, stays home adding up Shirley Jones royalty checks and looks for people to sue?....His real name is Martin Ingermann from Brooklyn.

In 1982, Ingels sued editor Iain Calder and the National Enquirer for an October 9, 1979 article. In the late 1980s, Ingels was part of a real estate investment partnerships with then attorney Alan David Harris. Harris later was sentenced to a 71 month prison sentence for defrauding Ingels and other investors. Harris's challenge to Ingels's March 1993 civil lawsuit ended with a decision against Harris on June 28, 1996. When the Harris suit was decided in Ingels' favor, he celebrated by buying Shirley Jones a car with the license plate "BBDO", standing for "Big Bad Deposition Over".

Hugh Duff Robertson sued Ingels in August 1993. For different reasons, Ingels sued Hillside Prod. Inc. in December 1993 and KXTV in May 1994.

In the 2000s, Ingels sued Marisol Hedge (February 2000) and then sued Shirley Jones for divorce in March 2002. In 2003, Ingel called the talk show of radio personality Tom Leykis under an assumed name, Paul Russo. Asserting that Leykis' actions of disparaging Ingels' age violated California's Unruh Civil Rights Act (which prohibits individuals discrimination in business), Ingels sued Westwood One and Tom Leykis in July 2003 for age discrimination. In June 2005, Ingels's lawsuit against Westwood One and Leykis was thrown out in a California court and Ingels was ordered to pay Leykis's $25,000 in legal fees.

In November 2007, Ingels sued Ventura county attorney Scott B. Whitenack on behalf of Fawn Park, a park created by Ingels and Shirley Jones in downtown Fawnskin, California to prevent development. In May 2008, Ingels appeared on Judge Joe Brown as a plaintiff. He won $2500.

28. You have to laugh at that shopliftin' old coot leaving his cane behind. He was so excited about stealing a new hat that he even forgot to limp as he exited the store. I'd like to know the story behind his "need" for a cane - did it involve an insurance settlement of some kind? If that is the case, I'm sure the insurance company would like to see the video of him practically running from the store unaided by his cane.
